Could you explain why you use the term “ego trips?”

And how that applies to me or anything I have written here?
You seem to be under the impression that the people at church are there to make you feel good. (Ego trips.)

You would not feel good if you came to my church - in fact, nobody would even notice you except for Little A, who would follow you around and point out all of your sins, thus helping you to prepare for Confession (Little A is very annoying, but she is useful as an Examen, if you have enough humility to listen to her, since the really annoying thing about her is that she is always dead-on) - but you would worship God in an authentic manner, which is the real purpose of going to Church.

This is what comes of not picking a side to be on. 😃

You cannot say that two completely opposite things are the same Truth. They are not. At least one of them is wrong, and that’s when we have to look at history to see what Christ actually did (did He found 33,000 mutually conflicting denominations, or One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church?), rather than to anyone’s interpretation of the Bible, which is purely subjective on all sides.
Well, I believe both are not 100% right. I believe the problems started when Jesus ascended into Heaven and left The Church with fallable men and women in a fallen world. Have you ever read Luther’s objections? Holy smoke, he has good points! I can sit here and criticize both sides. Sinful men in women in a fallen world miss the mark. The Inquisition? Bombing abortion clinics? Abuse of power, abuse of authority? Both sides, throughout ALL HISTORY!

I’ve studied the arguments, I know the talking points, and as an objective observer, I see the arguments as a wash. You present a scripture and its interpretation and another provides other scriptures along with different interpretations of the scripture you presented.

So, what’s left? God’s undefiled, unerred Word. And when I read God’s Word, through bible study with Hebrew and Greek word study, I just don’t see what the early church fathers of the Catholic Faith see. I’ve read the early church father’s writings. They are saturated with intimacy with Christ Jesus.

So that’w what I do, get intimate with Jesus. That’s my perspective.

Well, you speak with confidence, but you lack wisdom. I have not written ONE SINGLE WORD about what I experience in a service at my church. But, you believe you have me and my walk with God all figured out? Do you realize the arrogance of that stance? Do you believe that’s the humility we are called to walk in?

For the record, from my lips (finger tips), my LIFE is a LIFE OF WORSHIP! I don’t wait until Sunday morning or Wednesday night to turn the “worship switch” on. Every hour of the day when my Savior crosses my mind, I feel an array of feelings. Joy, conviction of sins, peace, aggrevation and on and on.

I have surrendered my life, every breath to my Lord and Savior. Not just Sunday mornings. My involvement with my local church is a small part of my walk with Christ. My pastor is a gifted leader with the Heart of The Father to reach the lost for Christ and to love on the poor, orphaned and widowed. He has a heart for discipling believers to live the life God intended for them and to help serve the Kingdom of Heaven to complete the Great Commision. We are not perfect, we don’t claim to be.

My little annoying voice is the Holy Spirit, who brings me joy, peace and conviction of my short comings. My enemy is my flesh, who battles minute by minute The Holy Spirit.

I guess my definition of “authentic” and mine are different. My worship is a lifestyle.

I’d be happy to correct any more of your inaccurate perceptions of me. I’ll even give you a little advice: Forget about what you know or have experienced with any other person. I’m not like them, i don’t think the same thoughts, I don’t have the same experiences. God formed me in the womb, I am wonderfully and fearfully and uniquely created by my Heavenly Father. I’m not a stereotype or a generic description of men you have debated with in the past.

If you want to continue discussions about our faiths, review the Forum Rules. You like rules, right? 😃

Sorry, you misinterpreted me. I meant that even though the signs on the church are different, the heart of the people serving those churches are the same. To share the gospel, to love the poor, widowed and the orphans. Those things which are priorities to Our Lord and Savior.

Sorry:blush:
Sorry, my bad I thought you were saying that we couldn’t be in agreement because our Churches had different names. :o

What an ARROGANT statement… 😦 It is this kind of ignorant misguidence that widens the gap between catholics and protestants.

For shame sir, for shame…

The Church’s names are (as is religions’ purpose to) to bring about and evoke a sentiment. For example, instead of calling Church #27 on **Elm Street **“Church #27”, it may be called Saint Joseph’s. Why? The mention of his name evokes and image.
It is Christian Verbal Art.
All these churches are the real nightmare on Elm Street…😃

Assalam Alaikum.

The process of uniting faiths cannot begin until a common truth is agreed upon. The Pope stated this. That truth would have to entail only one thing…that we have differences.

That needs to substitute the mentality of “we’re right and their wrong”.

But some just won’t stop “protesting”. To them, protesting is more important than unity.
Then why doesn’t the Latin (“Catholic”) church submit to the Greek (“Orthodox”) church and just become one? Or is being number one more important?

Here’s the difference…The Orhodox were not founded by a man. They were founded by an Apostle. Therefore, they are a Biblical Church. How they worship, we as Catholics cannot judge. We tell another Church how to worship.

That is their Church, they do things their way. We don’t in anyway protest them.

We have doctrinal differences, but you’ll never see The Orhtodox Church trying to change us or protest us. They always existed. They weren’t spawned by us. They are their their own Church. They weren’t founded on “protestation” (yeah, that’s my own word! LOL!).

And I love and honor them because they act as true Christians. They don’t protest how we worship or try to impose their views on the world or work to slander us like anti-Catholic Christians do.

Since they do not speak against us, we love them.

Why don’t we unite? Because that would take them giving up some of their doctrines and I would never ask a man to do that. Those that want to become Western Catholics don’t have to wait until The Eastern end of The Church converts…they can just come over. It’s my understanding that the conversion would be akin to a person turning in their license when they move to a new state…they don’t have to go through all the re-initiation of a road test and all that…they just have to answer a couple of questions, show that they understand the new states laws and accept them and they get their new license.

As for why don’t we convert to them? That would be slapping Jesus in the face. He suffered and died to establish His Church. We are no one to make such decisions for Him. Remember, it’s men who convert.

And yes…we are Number 1.

The first Christian Church.
The first to produce The Holy Bible (at least the original).
The first to practice all the Sacraments as stated in Scritpure.
The first that the world acknowledges existed.
The first to be called Christian.
The first to, oh well, you get it by now.

🙂

And I’m proud to belong to The Church that Jesus founded on Simon Bar Jonah.

Why don’t we unite? Because that would take them giving up some of their doctrines and I would never ask a man to do that.
The question was why don’t YOU (Latins) give up YOUR doctrinal differences and unite with them?

But thank you, you gave your answer:

“And yes…we are Number 1.”

It’s not really about “unity” at all, is it? It’s about being # 1 in your own minds.

Oh, you do realize that the “Orthodox” consider the Pope to be the first “Protestant?”

My only response to that would be that the burden should be borne on the receiver, not the giver (who is ultimately Christ). Jesus served Judas who betrayed, and Peter who denied, with the full knowledge of what both would do. The sacraments are a means of grace. We see, at best, through a glass dimly. And the Orthodox still commune baptized infants, if I am not mistaken.

Recent ecumenical dialogue and actions don’t point that way, Andrew. But I will pray for it.

O+
Doesn’t St. Paul warn in his letter to the Corinthians about profaning the Body and Blood of the Lord? Why should it be given to a person if the simply profess a “belief in Christ?” Nowadays, that can mean nearly anything.

Also, in Eastern Catholic Churches most, if not all of them, give the Eucharist to infants, as well as Confirming them at their Baptism.

It means a lot to hear you say you’re praying for unity. I, along with many other Catholics and Orthodox appreciate you saying that.👍

Pace e Bene
Andrew

Oye vey! 🤷

Let me explain it to you like a toddler…

We are the first Christian Church.
Peter is the first Pope.
We created the first Christian Bible.

Yes, we are the number one Church of Christianity.

That’s just the truth.

And that fact in now way forces any other Christian to reject us…their own pride, misunderstandings or will does. Don’t blame The Church for those that made their own decision to leave it.

As for The Orthodox considering The Pope the first Protestant, if that were true, “they’d” be the Number 1 Christian church and not in 2nd place.

Jesus Church is never in 2nd place or 3rd or 34,000th place.

Jesus’ Church is number one.

That is exactly true. I came to this site because I was seeking information about the Catholic church. I was on the way to becoming a Catholic.

But, the arguments presented here have pushed me away from the Church. People here fight in as ridiculous ways as people do on sectarian web sites. So I don’t see a difference. Catholic, sectarian…no difference. Just a bunch of people fighting.

If people disagreeing is an instant disqualifier for your “next” church, I have some bad news for you…you will never find a church. You may be “on your way” to being a non-denominationalist.

If God wants you in The Catholic Church, nothing will stop you from being where His will wants you to be. I prayed for you…that God will guide you to the Church that He wants you to be. Whether it be Catholic/non-Catholic/Muslim/Jew, whatever…never allow any human being to keep you from where your heat tells you God wants you.

I’d say that a good 90% of the squabbling here is bogus…stuff manifested to keep people like me busy. It’s a past time. Don’t take a forum as any measuring stick to decide on a church.

LOL!

I can say this…90% of my posts are bogus! 😛

I just try to spark up a dialogue to lure people out of their comfort zones and to force them to see things from other perspectives.

Just between me and you…(and a couple of thousand other viewers), I set up a question to corner anti-Christians and psuedo-intellectuals, then when I have them cornered, I’ll drop a strategically placed theological bomb and they can’t run…they either have to justify their position or dissappear (most dissappear). The honest ones admit that we are all the same (Caths/Prots).

Trust me, this is one of the nicest forums I’ve been on…

I’ve shut down 3 Jehovah’s Witness sites, a couple of Protestant sites (one of them several times over) and have been banned from anti-Catholic sites.

At least here, even if your opinion counters the Catholic opinion, you’re allowed to stay. They don’t ban you for proving them wrong.

The anti-Catholic sites I’ve been on (and banned from LOL!) couldn’t stand to be proven wrong (especially when you use Scripture).

Whatever church you choose, take your time. There’s no rush. God forbid that you “go home” before you find a church, it won’t matter…God will not judge you by your church but by your heart.

I wish you discernment guided by The Holy Paraclet.

🙂

Sorry, I think you are deluded by a misunderstanding of your abilities.

My previous point is that on this web site I find bickering and nasty fighting that isn’t at all inviting. Frankly most of the worst is from Catholics, you in particular.

When choosing a church it’s necessary to examine the people in that church. So far, at this web site I am not impressed with the Christian nature of many of the people here who are viciously anti-Protestant…like you!

Tone it down and try to be more inviting and compelling through valid and kind arguments. Your tone, and games are a total turn off!

Are there any two Protestant denominations that agree completely on each other’s doctrines?
I can tell you that many Protestant churches have split over very trivial issues. Many of the Pentacostal churches split over trivial issues concerning tongues and some of the other spiritual gifts, and Baptist churches have split over the eternal salvation issue.(once your saved your always saved) as well as prophecy. (Example; Church of the Nazerene)

Even though they have split and have some disagreements, most of them are in agreement with “the core doctrines of the bible”.
Pentacostal churches have minute differences between themselves on the “spiritual gifts” issue.

The better question to ask is, “are there any churches, whether Catholic or Protestant, that are in complete agreement with the Word of God?” I would say no to both questions.

I haven’t found many Catholics who agree with *everything the Church teaches. Why then should it be surprising that Protestants disagree?

It’s ridiculous to say that Catholics are united. I grew up with mostly Catholic friends and their understanding of the Church was not at all accurate. Same is true now. As an example, my brother-in-law and his family do not believe that Catholics are supposed to believe in transubstantiation. They *totally reject that, yet they are faithful in attending Mass and receiving the Eucharist. They consider themselves to be Catholic. Go figure.

Well, there’s no excuse…I explained to you that we do this in jest. I’m pretty sure that if even after I told you that our bickering is in a joking manner you still have that attitude, then it’s not neccessarily the board that makes you feel how you feel.

I’ve seen some nasty comments to (never from me), but that’s usually when someone can’t answer a question or when their proved wrong.

Usually, those are the times when the curses have been launched at me and the vulgarity came out (I could accurately judge what denomination a person was by how they cursed at me! LOL!).

I haven’t seen any of that here.

Again, I guess we have different ways to measure the “Christianity” of a religion. You do it in the “cyber” world, I have done my judging by actually walking into a church and meeting real live humans (“humans”, not profiles).

LOL! And Catholics can’t be anti-Protestant! LOL! We’re the ones being “protested” against!

We don’t lay down and allow lies to be spread about us.

My arguments have been valid. They probably turn the stomachs of those who disagree with them, but there’s a little red box at the top right of the screen on your own computer that you can click on and remove yourself from the viewing of these posts.

Nobody is forced to view the forums. Nobody puts a gun to anybody’s head. People come here willingly. It’s voluntary.

I’m sure that’s what they told Paul too. He too was pretty aggressive and peple just couldn’t stand to hear the truth and they cursed him as well. I must be doing something right if people who are wrong are displeased with me (not including you there).

The good thing about this site is that the criticism has been against me has come from both Catholics and Protestants…The Protestants because I’ve trounced their arguments (sore losers) and the Catholics because they care more about “image” than truth.

I’d rather have truth. The “image” will work itself out later.

If you haven’t been to any, try going on some Protestant forums where they actually allow Catholics on. I guarentee you that you will see the exact same level of nastyness and bickering. Matter of fact, if you have a problem finding some, I’ll refer you to some sites where the Protestants bicker and insult their own Protestant brethren.

Disagreement is not a “Catholic” thing…it’s a human thing.

(Sorry to drop this bomb on you, but the very Apostles that God hand picked disagreed and argued themselves…no one is perfect; perhaps you need to find a Kumbaya church…psyche! They don’t exist!)

Never the less, I did pray that you would find your church. I seriously doubt that you’re Catholic material; When someone prays for us, we just return the gesture with a “Thank You” and not criticism the pointing out of their faults.

Well, all the Rites of The Catholic Church are in complete agreement on the issues of doctrines.

As for The Protestant Churches, I’d say that the closest thing to a group of churches having agreement would be The Assemblies of God and The Methodists. The Lutherans and Episcopalians and the Anglicans are pretty Catholic-like.

I was just wondering if say a Pentecostal and a Baptist church could worship together. I’ve never seen that type of interdenominational fellowship.

Thanks.
