Are there any two Protestant denominations that agree completely on each other’s doctrines?

That would be a very difficult question for me to answer since I personally don’t know anyone who’s been part of multiple Protestant churches and knows all the intiricacies of the “official” beliefs. Anyways, don’t most of our non-Catholic brothers & sisters just say that there is no requirement to agree on everything. They will say, usually, that you only have to agree on the “essentials”. I have yet to see agreement on what these “essentials” are??

With that said, it may be a valuable task to locate all of the big Protestant churches web-sites that identify their beliefs. I will see what I can find and post more later. Thanks for starting the thread. 👍

😃

My question is a loaded question if ever there was one!

Think about it, if two denominations accepted each other’s doctrines as factual, then there wouldn’t be any need for them to be 2 different denominations.

And?

And this shows how no Protestant can ever criticize The Catholic Church “only” for if they were to be completely fair, they’d have to attack their fellow brethren on their side of the theological divide.

There is some anti-this and anti-that squabbling going on.

For example, the Baptists go at it with the Pentecostals over the whole “talking in tongues” issue.

It saddens me, but what can one do.

One has to be devoid of alot of Christ in their heart to attack their fellow Christians.

I wouldn’t expect so, given that the majority of Protestant religions are founded upon the private interpretation of Scripture. It would be a million-to-one chance that two people would come up with identical interpretations.

I doubt it. If they do, I think they wouldn’t know it, or they would be the same denomination.

My parents don’t even agree with each other…:o

For instance, my mom believes in OSAS and justification by faith alone. My dad believes in justification by faith and works and rejects OSAS…🤷

I wonder why there are so many protestant denominations merging together – ah they agree on doctrine.

So then we could honestly say that they couldn’t be “one”?

(Which was Jesus’ wish)

Now think about that statement…
if Protestants continue to merge together because they are agreeing and that trend continues…
given enough time, they will return to The Church!

Like I said, the older the Protestant,
the more Catholic they become.

First, it was wrong to use images,
now it’s ok to use crosses.

First, the Deuterocanonicals Books were Apocryphal,
now their “worthy” of reading.

First, Mary wasn’t to be mentioned,
now devotion to Mary is being “reconsidered”.

Keep it up…you’ll be home with the right discernment.

God bless.

The whole point of Protestantism is division. No, I don’t think they have the ability to be obedient to Christ’s command to “be one,” beyond the realm of vague generalities and wishful thinking.

Actually, they don’t - they just agree that they are running out of money and need to merge with something - they are just hoping it’s true that doctrinal differences don’t really matter very much. (The United Church of Canada is a perfect model of this kind of thinking.)

The word “protestant” in itself is a very negative term. Imagine basing your faith on a church that was created out of “protesting” Christianity.

Ok. In order for me to get a better understanding of the various non-Catholic groups typically defined as Christian I pulled together a bunch of web-links to sites declaring their beliefs. I hope this is helpful.

For the sake of this topic I also commented on things that I believe would indicate a difference among other non-Catholic denominations.

Adventists - Well, we know they do not agree with the rest of Christendom when it comes to the Lord’s Day.

Anglican Communion - The 39 Articles are an interesting read and some of the more moderrn protestant churches would have problems with the teachings regarding authority of the Church and infant Baptism.

Episcopal Church, USA - I have to tell you that it was not easy for me to find this from their home page. I think their stance on the ordination of openly homosexual clergy sets them apart from much of their protestant kin. Oh ya, they are also a member of Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice which supports abortion.

Evangelical Lutheran Church in America - I’m not sure how different they are from the MIssouri Synod version, but the fact they exist must mean they are different. I see that they do profess the traditional creeds.

Jehovah’s Witnesses - Their beliefs on the nature of God i.e. the Trinity are definitely not traditional Christian beliefs. All of us Trinitarian Christians are Apostate.

Latter Day Saints - Mormons - There are many beliefs they hold that would cause them to differ from the other Protestant churches i.e. the additional books, the great Apostasy, the nature of God, etc.

Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod - They rightly call Mary the mother of God which would be frowned on by the Baptists.

Presbyterian - Also a pesky member of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. Although, from there site I notices that they are relooking at Mary and they do consider her the theotokos.

Southern Baptist Convention - This is a very traditional when it comes to protecting the unborn and being opposed to sexual immorality. However, it is a loose knit “convention” and each member church is its own authority and thus all can technically be teaching different doctrines. The big ones that come to mind are Calvinistic vs. Arminian views on salvation. Oh, and they would never use the term Sacrament. They have their two “ordinances” of Baptism & the Lord’s Supper; however, their meaning is no where near the views that an Anglican or Lutheran may hold on the topic.

United Church of Christ - Another member of Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice which removes them from being anything like the more conservative evangelical groups.

United Methodist Church - What is funny is at the top of the page they refer to their “Christian Roots”. I’d like to know how their pro-choice; pro-contraception teachings are grounded in their Christian roots.

ah-hah. Here is a decent site that compares & contrasts the differences between the Catholic, Orthodox, Lutheran, Reformed/ Presbyterian, Anglican/ Episcopalian, Methodist/ Wesleyan, & Baptist churches.

Comparison of Christian Denominations’ Beliefs

Comparison of Christian Denominations’ Practices
Yeah, I’ve used ReligionFacts before.

Like them.

Favorite sites to use in apologetics?

www.ScriptureCatholic.com (scriptural proof for Catholic doctrine)
www.BibleGateway.com (for scriptures)
www.Dictionary.com (for reference)
www.Bible.cc (for scriptural verse comparisons of all bible versions)
www.V-A.com (for Aramaic Bible…literal translation of scripture)

And there are various protestant sites that tear apart other protestants. These sites are helpful when proving them wrong with their own words and it the matter used can’t be accused of being from a Catholic source.

But my favorite sites are the following:

EVERYBODY NEEDS TO SEE THESE SITES! LOL!

www.Bible.ca
www.Chick.com
www.Jesus-Is-Lord.com

But for Catholic Apologetics? This is the best page:

The United Methodist Chruch is trying to get away from that religious right to choose coallation. I believe the United Methodist Church is a pro life Church as a whole.

Hi

I think the process of splitting into denominations once started does not get checked automatically. I think a well thought of process for uniting different denominations should be initiated.

Thanks

Assalam Alaikum.

The process of uniting faiths cannot begin until a common truth is agreed upon. The Pope stated this. That truth would have to entail only one thing…that we have differences.

That needs to substitute the mentality of “we’re right and their wrong”.

But some just won’t stop “protesting”. To them, protesting is more important than unity.

Agreement in doctrine is not a requisite according to The Pope, just the acknowledgement that there are differences. Those differences don’t even have to be discussed.

The Catholic Church gets along relatively well with all religious faiths…except our own rebellious children, the Protestants.
