Anglicans and Methodists have virtually no doctrinal differences. Within Methodism, the United Methodist Church, the British Methodist Church, the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church have no doctrinal differences. The only differences are in polity.

So, they aren’t “one” because of policy then…😦 .

At least their mainstream Protestants. I see them growing closer to us with time.

God bless them.

🙂

The word “protestant” in itself is a very negative term. Imagine basing your faith on a church that was created out of “protesting” Christianity.

😦
The term ‘protestant’ isn’t used by what you consider protestants. We aren’t protesting anything much less Christianity. We are CHRISTIANS not protestants and we aren’t protesting our own Faith.

Prot·es·tant
–noun
  1. any Western Christian who is not an adherent of a Catholic, Anglican, or Eastern Church.
  2. an adherent of any of those Christian bodies that separated from the Church of Rome during the Reformation, or of any group descended from them.
  3. (originally) any of the German princes who protested against the decision of the Diet of Speyer in 1529, which had denounced the Reformation.
  4. (lowercase) a person who protests.
    –adjective
  5. belonging or pertaining to Protestants or their religion.
  6. (lowercase) protesting.
And now that “that’s” out of the way, let me be clear…because there are several definitions to the word “Protestant”, you can rest assure that you can tell which type I was talking about by the text…when I spoke of Protestants that were anti-Catholic, I spoke of # 2.

I never implied that all Protestants protested The Catholic Church…just the ones that do.

In fact, I’ve written elsewhere literally that not all Protestants “became” Protestants, but most were born into that particular religion and stuck with it.

You (according to the Dictionary) are a Protestant in the #1. definition. It’s “not” stating that you are anti-Catholic, but that you are a Christian outside of the “universal” Christian Church.

(catholic means “universal”)

Hmmmmm, nope. Your post did not state that you were talking about definition #2. You said:

Nothing in that implied that you were speaking of one type of protestant but ‘protestant’ as a whole. Protestants don’t protest Christianity as you state above. Some may protest catholocism but not Christianity. Catholics don’t have the hold on Christianity.

Show me where you said ‘some not all’ in the quote I was responding to…

I feel better knowing that you agree I am christian… I was getting worried there. I mean, how could I go through life knowing that 2ndGen thought I wasn’t christian… 🤷 Luckily I don’t have to answer to you, just Christ.

Protestants (anti-Catholic Protestants since I have to spell it out for you since not all anti-Catholic are Protestants) protest and are against the universal Christian Church (which only comprises of Catholic Christians…all other Christians are not universal Christians, they belong to one Protestant sect or another, but none belong to the universal Christian Church).

You don’t have to ‘spell it out’ but you do need to make sure to specify what you mean when posting on the forums. If you don’t mean ALL protestants then say ‘some but not all protestants’ and we are fine with that. We may not be catholic christians but we are part of Christ’s Church. As long as we can agree on this, I am ok with it. 🙂

Of course I consider you as part of Christ’s Church.

I assume that anybody who reads what I write is intelligent enough to distinguish the difference between an anti-Catholic Protestant and a non-anti-Catholic Protestant.

If one is smart enough to log on, register and engage in the forum, then I assume that they are smart enough to understand what they speak of before they engage in a debate or at least “ask” for clarification on a matter they might have a problem understanding before they comment.

🙂

Wow, I am trying to be nice and open… you attack my intelligence… Nice.

Actually, that particular comment I made was directed “indirectly” at you (showing how you set the example of how one should conduct themselves when you asked me clarification on a subject).

I was complimenting you.

Didn’t you recognize your own work there?

See that?

You are seeing things through distorted glasses.

You are twisting everything I’m saying to the worst possible meaning.

🙂

See, I didn’t see a compliment since we seem to have a disagreement on how to word things and then you say you assume that people are intelligent enough to read what you mean no matter how you spell it out.

Here’s where I got confused:

Can you see where the confusion came from? Nowhere in there did I see a compliment. Unfortunately in the internet world you usually can’t ‘indirectly’ compliment someone because they don’t always see it.

Just wanted to say Hi to Singinbeauty.👋 I grew up in the T-Town also known as Tacoma, WA. When I was growing up not a single one of my good friends went to church. We were the one odd-ball family in the neighborhood. I haven’t been there in ages, but I hope the faith is growing out there in the northwest.

Sentiment meant is often misrepresented in “text” form.

And if I didn’t make myself clear, I’m sorry, but I was sure you’d pick up on the “clarification” reference as you used that same word when you addressed me on another post I believe.

But to be sure, let me go look…BRB.

I said polity, not policy.

The UMC, the AME, AME Zion, and CME congregations are Pan-Methodist in organization. And all of the above along with the British Methodists and Korean Methodists are members of the World Methodist Council.

.

The process of uniting faiths cannot begin until a common truth is agreed upon. The Pope stated this. That truth would have to entail only one thing…that we have differences.

Agreement in doctrine is not a requisite according to The Pope, just the acknowledgement that there are differences. Those differences don’t even have to be discussed.

.

😦
What is your source for this statement? Can you provide a link?

Oh. Sorry, I thought it was a typo.
😊

😃

My question is a loaded question if ever there was one!

Think about it, if two denominations accepted each other’s doctrines as factual, then there wouldn’t be any need for them to be 2 different denominations.😦
What if a church’s main mission and vision was to bring the lost to Christ by sharing the Gospel? What if a church’'s main focus was loving on the poor, orphaned and the widow?

What if a church thought is was fruitless and unbiblical to focus on what they believe versus what other churches believed because that would take time away from doing what God REALLY wanted us to do, as a church?

You use the term “unbiblical”. So apparently you believe the Bible teaches that one should not care what another teaches. Yet this idea seems unbiblical, since the Apostle said:

2 Peter 2 1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be among you lying teachers, who shall bring in sects of perdition, and deny the Lord who bought them: bringing upon themselves swift destruction.

2 Timothy 4 3 For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears:

So I agree that we are to work for God’s Kingdom. But apparently, we are also to preach, teach, reprove, rebuke and correct those who preach false doctrine:

2 Timothy 4
2 Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

If its not too personal, what does “COGHOBDOJ” stand for? Tell me it isn’t your real name?

Sincerely,

De Maria
