Hello all, i hope some of the fine people on this forum will be able to help me out. I’ll give a little background that got me to this post today, and why i need your guy’s help.

For the majority of my life there was no church. When there was church it was an Anglican church that my parents attended. I was baptised anglican and served during services sunday morning. I didnt really understand most of what went on.

Fast forward 7 years later, 6 years of no church, and i met the most wonderful girl. This wonderful girl was a devout catholic. At this point in my life, religion was a grey area. I felt a nagging notion in the back of my mind that jesus was there, but i never really knew him, nor acted on my notions. I accompanied them to church, at first to make them happy. My first time in church with them, not knowing any better, i received holy communion. Now i know this to be a terrible thing to have done and i feel deeply ashamed for it.

I have since been attending mass with my g/f every Sunday, for about a year now. Just recently, the priest blessed the medal my gf gave me when she returned from Poland, and told me that i had to recite three hail Mary’s a day for strength in faith that will never fade. I’d never done that before, but was willing to give it a try. That very night i went home, and barely able to finish without having to look at the paper i did it. Immediately i felt this emotion come over me, and i found myself talking to Christ. It was wonderful really, a complete transformation.

I asked for guidance of what to do next. From the dreams i had, i gathered i was being asked to pray the rosary, so i made one (rosaryarmy.com )and now pray it as often as i physically can.

The first miracle that our Lord and Mother have worked for me was the complete removal of desire to watch pornography and masturbation. I cannot explain how 9 years of habit turned normal daily activity could be lifted so easily other than through the salvation and grace that is come from Jesus alone.

My question is, where should i go next? I have asked through prayer for guidance, and each time i pray, i am filled with a greater passion to learn all i can about the history of the church. I find myself defending it, i feel upset when its teachings are attacked. From all that i’ve read to date, it is the only church that completely satisfies all the teachings of the holy gospels, and rightly so because it is the original! My questions are many, but mainly, as follows:

What should i do about my mortal sins (masturbation, pornography, receiving communion) Can i go to confession if i am not catholic?
How do i go about becoming a catholic?

WELCOME HOME!

Nice to hear such a wonderful work of grace in your life. I would contact the priest where you’ve been attending mass and inquire about the RCIA (Right of Catholic initiation for adults) classes. Continue to pray the rosay. No doubt the Holy Mother has her hand on you. 👍

RCIA and constant study on your own. As for confession, I think you can actually confess but not be absolved. That was my last understanding on it, but check with the priest.

Welcome Home!:hug1: :hug1: :hug1:

Alleluia! Isn’t God great? 😃 The next step is to talk to your priest and ask to start RCIA. Also, hang out on the main CA site and read read read. Learn all you can about the faith, it is a labor of love. I was where you are about 6 years ago. The 5 years since I converted have been the happiest of my life. Welcome home! :blessyou:

Welcome home!
Contact your parish priest on how to join the Church.
We are glad you are with us!

All have great advice.

Welcome revelations!!!

Thanks be to God, and thanks the Lord for having your girlfriend in your life.

Surely, the Blessed Virgin Mary has helped you back to God. She does the same thing with me.

The rosary is so so so powerful.

Hi everyone, thank you greatly for all the responses. I am filled with joy, it’s wonderful. I began as an anglican, and frankly, the only time we talked about Our Mother was at Xmas when they would read the nativity and the birth of Jesus. The first prayer i said was the hail Mary, and then later spoke with Jesus. 😃

This forum is awesome, a treasure trove of info.

Truly, I am so happy for you as I had similar experiences. My mom and my girlfriend are the very important persons God has put into my life. They both lead me to Mother Mary who in turn leads me to Jesus.

Our Heavenly Mother is the most blessed person and we honor her every day. Honoring her, as God’s creature, is to honor God. As we admire a painting, we admire the artist. For Her, what She cares for us the most is to bring us to God.

For this coming Thanksgiving, you have so much to thanks for, and I wanted to join with you on this Thanksgiving through prayers.

Yes, I have learned so much from this site, especially the “Spirituality” forum.

God bless!

I’m new to this forum and also in the process of converting from the Baptist religion to Catholicism. As “joanofarc3” recommended to you, “RCIA and constant study on your own”. I actually began my journey with a ‘Catholic Home Study Course’ which later led me to join the RCIA program. The CHSC was a blessing for me. If you would be interested in studying a lot on your own, contact me and I’ll give you information on the courses I took, etc.

God Bless!

One other bit of advice: In the words of the Fathers, stay on the Royal Path. Avoid errors on the left as well as on the right.

bpbasilphx i don’t quite understand what you mean?

Everyone has been excellent with guidance, thanks everyone :D. Met with a priest today, starting RCIA catch up classes every tuesday!

On another note, my gf’s mom has the entire Fr John Corapi series on tape, anyone know this guy? I watched his conversion tape a while ago and now i’m watching the immortal combat series. Good stuff.

God bless you all 😃

Thanks be to God for showing you the way Home! :extrahappy: :bounce:

I will offer my Rosary today for your conversion and for the conversion of others.

As the other posters have said, WELCOME! 👋

Welcome Revelations! (Wonderful screen name by the way). Catholics are always in the process of conversion. Sometimes hurdles are overcome quickly and other times it seems like were only taking very small steps. But as you have discovered, God gives us great helpers.

First, you might want to ask yourself the question “Is my desire to be Catholic totally dependent on whether my girlfriend and I continue to grow in a relationship?” Obviously, the g’f introduced you to the Faith but is it the stornger attraction than the g/'f?

Maybe it’s too early to tell. Everone is tested in life regarding their Faith…there are no exceptions. So, you might be going through some early “testing” as to the genuiness of your calling. Those “dreams” you have had, if they persist, could be some kind of “calling” but way too soon to assess.

Faith is a gift that continues to grow as long as we live (it can also diminish depending on where the heart is).

Faith has to grow WITHOUT signs from Above…sometimes they NEVER come (signs). One has to be unequivocally open to do God’s will in one’s life…that’s not always an easy decision. We can become too attached to things of this world. In so far as your “mortal sins” and Confession is not available (as yet) you must stop those sins immediately; get rid of all of the things that excite the senses to sin. That is a prerequisite for forgiveness even for those who are in the Church and to whom the sacrament of Confession is available.

There is still the Act of Contrition that can be prayed even if one is not yet Catholic…it is a powerful prayer of petition for forgiveness.

Hi Johnstown,

all the points you bring up are excellent. They are all things that I thought about for a great while. Obviously, it begs the question that if my gf were muslim for example, would I have gone to islam, or were she jewish would i have become a Jew? Because of this, i was very reluctant to give her details about all that has been happening. I wanted to make absolutely sure.

The fact of the matter is that before i did meet her i was a christian, baptised in the name of Christ. The journey that began for me a few weeks ago has been a personal one, and really my post here is the first outreach i made for guidance.

Anyways, like you say it is early. I like to think i have the resolve to continue on the path, but it is only with the help and guidance of our Lord and his Mother. I feel like my interest is genuine, and not to please anyone in her family. I think more that they brought me back home to god.

Thank you everyone

Welcome Home!!! You are on your way to where you belong. I was also lost for a long, long time. Sometimes I cry to think about the years I wasted, but like you, Our Lord looked down from His Holy Cross and called me home. At least I finally had the sense to listen.

Get into RCIA ASAP! I cannot explain with words the tremendous feeling of relief and forgiveness one receives after the Sacrament of Reconciliation! I stopped going for 15 years :o But since returning home I now try to go weekly. Sometimes I feel like going every day (I read somewhere that St Joan of Arc would go to confession several times a day! She would say “I need to see a priest!” Sometimes I walk around the house thinking, “I need to see a priest!”). I am happy for your continuing journey to Truth.

Peace to you,

Good Lord! My whole body is in a state of acute God-bumps! WHAT a story.

As a former Anglican, my approach to Mary was open, but somewhat ginger. Yet, looking back, she was in charge of removing everything that kept me from the Church. She ALWAYS takes you swiftly and directly and certainly to her SON.

You should talk to a good priest ASAP. The Boss has you in his crosshairs. :gopray2:

O boy! your gf’s mom has John Corapi? Our Lady has landed you – PLOP! – into a pot of jam! He is AWESOME! And a real MAN of a priest.

revelations,

Wait for the next whammy – when the Lord gives you a ravenous hunger for the Eucharist and a rabid desire for Confession! These are exciting times, my brother.
