Protestant view of Catholic Men

Anyways, Christ was called a worm; so society has never held Christian men in high regard.

Again, the OP seems to claim that Catholic men are either geldings or idiots.

Most people hate Christians because they can’t see the love of God. Loving men are not women. See, society thinks anyone who is “nice” is gay or an idiot. But if that kindness is strong enough (not just some hugging at church or something) then Christians can win over the world.

If worldly people saw the life of Christ (outside of the church) they could be won over.

I am saying that one need not check his testosterone at the door to be a Catholic.

Nobody ever said that (in the church). People in the world make statements like that. But I gave the reasons why they bash Christians.

Probably the Catholic church has a “gay” image because priests etc… are celibate. So people think that being Catholic is denial of being manly.

What you are seeing is not a real picture of the faithful, but a false image created by a small group. There is a movement in this country that started years ago that says that if a man shows emotions of any sort, he is a wimp. There was a backlash against it that said that men need to get in touch with their feminin side. Both of them are full of it.

Men naturally repress emotions. It is a needed action in the protectors. The problem is that the heads of many academic institution dove head first into the feminine man idea, which led to the influx of homosexual seminarians.

The holy spirit leads people into a right way of doing things. People who are in Christ shouldn’t be uptight (or self concious) about who they are. If they are in Christ then whatever thier doing is cool. If they are not in Christ then they should get back in Christ because there behavior could be bad.

In reality, unsaved men (even Hell’s Angels) are weaklings because they are slaves to sin. Actually, you can see that a lot of unsaved people are very whiny etc… because they are always blaming others for thier problems.

I stated it in the above. You must have missed it. It’s not like its one thing. I was merely going through a mental exercise for my own sake. I gave my experiences in brief. But I have struggled with male identity not having grown up always with a father present in my life. The rest is just details of how I migrated from one thought to the next. Details, that’s all. I’m NOT accusing Catholic men of uniquely being wimps, etc. I gave a background somewhere.

I have never heard anything about Catholic MEN. But in a larger sense there are worries that the church is becoming femanized as women are the more loyal church members attendence wise and more likely to “man” the different support ministries of the church.

And to keep the invovlement of women doctrine and practises change to reflect their growing power in secular and religious societies.

It doesn’t matter wether men or women support the church. But, yes, men should support it more. But the fact women support the church more does NOT indicate a female church.
It’s only important to be doing the will of God. Who does it isn’t important.

I can vouch that my perception of Catholic men has always been “wimp” and “buffoon” most all my life. Assuming you give your perspective, why do you have the perception? Further, express the view of the men in your own faith. Catholics are welcome to reply as well.

I would also like to mention that the Church is, I suppose to your dismay, feminine. It is called Christ’s Bride in the Bible. We use feminine pronouns when referring to the Church. That is why you see people on here saying “her teachings” when referring to Church teachings.

Wimpy? Buffoons? I could not agree with you. It takes courage to be a man of any faith and to admit it to others in todays world. My brother is Catholic and a K of C member. He is a state trooper for over 25 years, He is far from wimpy and far from being a buffoon. I’m sorry to say that it takes a wimpy person who is a buffoon to call someone that just because of their religion. Could it be because you have a low outlook of yourself that you have of call Catholic men names to make you feel better or is it because you are just ignorant who can’t see what real men are. Wimpy and buffoons, give me a break.

Amen, Jesus taught us what a real man is. There is true strength in love, kindness, and all the virtues he taught and lived by. A real man is gentle, and loving. There’s the real strength!

My wife and I spent a few years in Protestant Evangelical Churches. The perspective that I saw concerning Catholic men was that they blindly followed the Pope instead of Jesus. I never heard Catholic men referred to as “wimpy” , or otherwise stupid. Perhaps they never said these things within my earshot because they knew I was raised Catholic?

Well, across Protestant lines, I have heard protestant and even Catholic women refer to men as “wimps” with an implied stupidity. Actually, this is a cultural thing with them, something that they have accepted with the advent of an insidious form of female liberation. And if you look at commercials, the men are usually portrayed in the same way.

Interesting topic? The Catholic men I know and follow of are very Rock. The Jesuit priest (Father Miguel Pro) who faced his executioners with his hands stretched out in the form of a cross proclaimed in a loud voice before being shot to death for spreading the gospel “Long live Christ the King”. Pope John Paul II who proclaimed Jesus Christ before the communist in a communist country, even at the threat of death, who later attempted to kill him, when he was shot. If you want to look at real Catholic men, look at her Saints and Martyrs that Catholic men today are trying to follow. Can you imagine Bartholemew who refused to deny Jesus Christ before his pagan executioners, while being flayed alive? These are real Catholic men…

I listened to “Life on the Rock” about men, seminarians and priests participating in an apostolate of the laity that encourages men to be men, not “wimps, baffoons and ??” I forgot the exact terms off my head. But this was a direct quote from the men on the program.

Yes, I told my wife the same thing about a program we were watching tonight.

Today, I watched my son play paintball with several of the youth boys and a couple of girls. They seemed to have a blast. I think it reinforced his desire to enter the military.

I worked overseas in a very poor country. Men had to be mechanics and work with their hands; some were teachers but always connected to every day living.

I came home and eventually started working in the information technology branch of the company. I noticed big, atheletic men with their legs all stretched out and around because the area wasn’t big enough for them, sitting there throughout the day and the only thing moving was their fingers, or when they had to get up to do something.

Then at church, I noticed how alot of the women wanted to do more and be more visible at Mass. Some nuns thought they were being called to the priesthood.

I wondered if that movement to become priests was due to the fact that our society was very affluent at the time, women had access to high education which these nuns had. But in someways the affluence seemed to have an influence on how we perceived ourselves, our gender differences, and the value each one had to contribute to the society. I wondered if our economy went back down, that it would put people back in traditional roles.

But today it is the woman who are having more jobs and the men losing the jobs because of the downsizing of construction, manufacturing and so on.

The foreign country I worked in had a very hard climate and alot of diseases. It affected people’s work. But the men were known to be traditionally polygamous, closed to learning, but it was the women who wanted to learn, to work, to make a better society with infants on their backs. Their men had abandoned them.

And that is good for them. Women must take up where men fail to step up to the plate to be real men. Any man that brings his sex partner to have an abortion is basically worth less than a mangy dog in my book. What these polygamists are doing would be put to death in my ideal country . I feel pain for those women and children striving to survive. It brings great sham upon any man that does not do what God has outlined for all men to do. When men fail, and many of us do, women must take up their cross and rise to the occasion that the men failed to do.
