Mariology points to dogmatics on Mary.
No. Mariology is simply a study of the person of Mary.
That was my point, we do not have dogmas about Mary. All our dogmas are about Christ that is then applied to Mary and all the saints and the rest of the Church.
This is exactly the “problem” between the Orthodox and the CC. Everything we believe is the same, essentially. You just proclaim it with the “left hand version” while Catholicism proclaims the same truth with the “right hand version”.

It makes others think we are disagreeing, when we are both saying the same thing.

Many many years ago [lol] when I attended Valparaiso University {LCMS] liturgical renewal conferences were held where we sung an Orthodox canticle in praise of the blessed Virgin. I can’t recall the name of the prayer but I believe it is in Vespers. It was very beautiful.

Sure.

We also have a Faustinaology and a Wojtylaology and a Xavierology…
Oh c’mon now, there is no such thing.

Christology is a doctrinal statement. This is why Churches in schism and are in discussion about unions discuss their Christology. Rome and the Assyrian Church of the East, for example, have made a joint Christological statement affirming their unity in belief in Christ.

It isn’t mere study, it is a statement of belief, that is, doctrine and dogma.
I proudly and loudly proclaim that we have Marian dogmas.

That ought not be confused with Mariology.
No, they are the same. Mariology contains the Marian dogmas the same way that Christology contains the doctrines and dogmas about Christ.

Do you have Petrology and Pauology?

Do you also deny that you have Marian Dogmas?
Mariology is simply the study of the Blessed Mother. If we studied Peter or Paul then we would have Petrology and Pauology. 😉

The study of life is called Biology. 👍

Should we not study the Mother of God?

Are you talking about Axion Estin?

It is truly right to bless thee, O Theotokos,
ever blessed, and most pure, and the Mother of our God.
More honorable than the cherubim,
and beyond compare more glorious than the seraphim.
Without corruption thou gavest birth to God the Word.
True Theotokos, we magnify thee.

Sorry, but that is not the application of the “ology” as the Church uses it.

Also, I would say, we should never study anything apart from Christ. So why have a study specific to Mary or any of the saints apart from Christology?

Mariology- the study of the person and nature of the Virgin Mary, especially in reference to her role in the incarnation of God in Christ.

What is makes that so confusing or wrong? Mariology brings us closer to Christ in every way.

Mariology is not above Christology. If anything, we grow closer to Christ through our study of His mother. 👍

No it does not. Mariology separates Mary from Christ, which is why people today are prone to worshiping her as a goddess rather than seeing her true place in our Christian lives and in the Kingdom of God.

I am sorry if you feel that way. That is not how the Church teaches. If some Catholics do that, I pray they will correct their path. The Blessed Mother’s role is to simply bring us closer to her Son. 👍

Really? This must be hyperbole. You can’t possibly mean that we should never study any subject apart from Christ…

Mariology points to dogmatics on Mary. We do not have that. Everything about Mary and all the Saints in Orthodoxy is part of our Christology. They are who they are because of Christ and what we believe in Christ. Even when Mary was declared the “Theotokos” is a Christological statement, not a Mariological. It affirms the belief that Jesus the human being is one with God the Word at all times, that the fetus in the womb is already both Jesus the man and God the Word.

That was my point, we do not have dogmas about Mary. All our dogmas are about Christ that is then applied to Mary and all the saints and the rest of the Church.
ALL of the Catholic Church dogmas, doctrines, et. al. are Christ Centered and all come from the person of Christ. As such, they are Christological. Everything else is a sub-study from the person of Christ in our lives and that of the saints.

Do you confirm or deny what I asked in my previous post to you?

Mariology contains the Marian dogmas the same way that Christology contains the doctrines and dogmas about Christ.
It appears that you have decided for yourself to define Mariology in your own way.

This would be like coming to a cruciverbalist forum and declaring, “This is not a crossword puzzle because it was not created by Will Shortz.”

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

You don’t get to make your own arbitrary definitions and then exclude concepts based on your own arbitrary criteria.

Unfortunately, your position is complete false. Nothing can be further from the truth. Mariology does not separate Mary from Christ. That is like saying the study of angels separates them from God. Does it? Angels are in the service of God and do His will and cannot be separated;hence Mary is in the service of her divine Son and cannot be separated. How can one separate “the” saint (Mary) from her Son?

I agree with your analogies, PR.

I think Protestants who have been exposed to alot of anti-Catholicism, but are being drawn by the Holy Spirit into communion with the universal Church need to have faith that in time all will fall into place.

Attending to Mass, following the liturgical year, growing in Eucharistic spirituality, and studying the classics on the walk in perfection/union with God, that so much will fall into place.

The Eucharist brings us into acknowledging deeper and deeper the depravity of sin and how even one sin can warp our being that transcends into even the universe. The study of perfection, be it St. Catherine of Siena or Theresa of Avila, or John of the Cross or S. Bonaventura, do great work in helping us see who Christ is and who we are not.

Being a Latin Catholic, we have full communion with the successor of Peter. The more we enter into the universal Church, the mysteries of Mary we cannot understand today will be revealed tomorrow.

Let us look at 3 great examples for conversation.

The Immaculate Conception of Mary: This was done for Christ and not Mary. So it is actually not about Mary but for about Christ. He is the reason there was such a need for the IC! 👍

Ever Virgin: You should have no issue with that since you are Orthodox.

Assumption: Once again as an Orthodox, you should find no fault in this dogma

Which of the 4 do you find issue with? Mother of God? You cannot deny that and believe in the Holy Trinity. 🤷

I mean no disrespect when I say this, brumano: but is English your first language? You seem to have a lexicon which is not that to which I am familiar, and it makes it difficult for me to understand your posts.

Again, I mean no disrespect. If English is not your first language I guarantee you speak it better than I speak my second language (Spanish).
None taken be assured; how about, fitting for you, necessary for me? hasta la vista!
