Protestant VS Catholic

It seems that many people feel that while the Catholic church is the true church. Protestants are better at fellowship and scripture and evangelising.

I beg to differ.
If we keep in mind the fact that Mass is for worship not for fellowship, we can see that the Catholic church is not lacking anything.

I invite anyone who is having problems that they feel a protestant church can solve, to join me in a discussion on this matter.

I think churches, Catholic, Orthodox, protestant, have Christians who possess various gifts of the Spirit. I also believe that all have sinned and fall short of His glory. Therefore, there are congregations and parishes of all stripes that worship well, and perhaps not so well, some are better than others at evangelizing, and at fellowship.
In addition, it does not follow that those who have good fellowship do it at the expense of worship. Our worship service, for example has no “fellowship” as a part. Fellowship follows worship.

I would like to add to Jon’s post and say that my Church has Sunday School between two of the four Sunday Services and following each of the Services is a chance for more fellowship in our Fellowship Hall.👍

Excalibar-- Does your CC not do the “Sign of Peace” during your Mass? This is a wonderful time of fellowship in my Church, especially when people leave their pews and offer a hand in friendship to a stranger!

Many of these problems “solved” by Protestant churches really only pander to those of us Catholics who seek to justify our own moral weaknesses.

Emeraldcoast: Does your CC not do the “Sign of Peace” during your Mass? This is a wonderful time of fellowship in my Church, especially when people leave their pews and offer a hand in friendship to a stranger!

Say I don’t like the Catholic Church’s teachings about divorce, or abortion, or contraception, or whatever, there are plenty of other churches who can easily “evangelize” these displeased Catholics.

What good is fellowship if it puts one on the road to ruin?

I don’t see the connection between fellowship, and the moral issues you mentioned. The same can be said of protestants who are seeking a more formal liturgical setting.

What good is Catholicism, if it leads one to be abused by a priest 😦 ? What good is Christianity, with all the abominations of every kind it has caused, & continues to cause ? It has done more harm than ever Hitler did - he was one of its products: the only 20th century monster not of Christian origin was Mao. But for cruelty & violence & deceit of every kind, Christianity is unrivalled.​

Every single Christian comment made to “do down” another Christian Church, is fratricidal - it harms other Christians, instead of building them up. Every mean comment about other Christians does the work of anti-Christians for them. Who needs atheists, when Christians excel at hating & despising one another ?? If Christians don’t stop their ridiculous complaining about one another, people will simply be sick of the lot of them - & rightly. Who cares a button for the differences between them, when they all behave so badly ?

Sounds good
we have it, but most people just say peace be with you and that’s it. Or stay in the pew and hold up a peace sign.

mabey I can do better at this.

I was a craddle Catholic and Now I am a Memeber of an Elca Lutheran Church. I also have attended an episcopalian Service as well. All three of the Churches have a very similar Worship method. They read the same readings the same Creed and Beleive that Jesus is present in the Eucharist. An Important part of worship is Fello ship. I have met more people inThe Lutheran Church in the last 18 months than I did as a catholic for forty two Years, Yes Church is not a social event however we are human beings. While a catholic it always seemed to me that since I was A Single Blue collar working stiff I was not welcome. Where I last attended Mass unless you had a millon bucks in your small change draw they did not want you around. They had their token low income folks around to make them feel bettter about themselves and of course the large families of any income were welcome. But if you were single and Upper Middle income they did not want us involved.

We sing a lot of the same songs the liturgy is all most identical and I feel Gods presence in my Lutheran church. Felowship is a good thing .

Have you heard of the “Five Minute Rule”? The 5 Minute Rule is to speak to guest or anyone that you haven’t met, the first five minutes following the Mass/Services. Get your Rector in on this idea to get the word out to the church. This is a wonderful time to connect with others instead of people running for the parking lot or trying to make a mad dash out a side door. Our Rector has also put this information out in the bulletin.

People will want to come to a church that they feel welcome and a part of…we all need to do our part

Protestants are much more liberal and less “ritualistic” (if that’s even a word) than Catholics are.

Believe it or not, us Catholics are loose, to an extent, when it comes to reading Scripture.

Not only that, but you have to admit: As a religion, we’re kind of old. There’s too much history to keep up with, so these generations that are yet to come won’t have the proper learning about how Catholicism came about. It’s just our job to teach. 🙂

Any Church ceases to be perfect once people are a part of it. Having things that are very good there or even awesome, doesn’t make other things like fellowship unnecessary.
 
Yay, another religious war thread, like we don’t have enough already :rolleyes:

Both sides have their ignorant people, both sides have some places that worship more then others.

leaving your pew to give people the sign of peace is not licit though:shrug: . I think I go overbaord by turning around and allow others to shake my hand so that I don’t come across rude. I love to shake hands…but not in mass. It doesn’t feel right.

LIBERAL??? Ahhhh I don’t think so. You obviously have never been to one of our congregations.
