I mean really guys - do these clown masses still happen? I think this shot was from 2003, which is pretty close. I’m just wondering if anyone put the kabosh to them since then.
I’m sorry to say that I feel such a mass is focused on entertaining the people, not worshiping God. God does not require such attire for praise so that means it must be for the people.
I’m a convert to traditional style masses, be they Novus Ordo or TLM. It happend only about 5 weeks ago and I wouldn’t go back to the old style (or should I say “modern style” for lack of a better word). I can’t focus on God as much in the non-traditional mass as there are too many stimulators that draw my attention away from Him.
I just wonder how many people would continue to worship God, unconditionally, if all of this “jazz” was stripped out of their mass. They may feel punished to have to sit through a traditional style mass due to lack of stimulus. I believe that the traditional style masses focus on worshiping God by removing such stimulators. Case in point is the priest who is off to the side instead of in the center. Also, the priest in a traditional style mass does nothing to draw attention to himself during the mass. He is not the center of mass, God is. The clowns only distract from that, and sometimes the “clowns” are more subtle in some liturgies.
Call me what you want, but give me a traditional style mass so I can worship God unconditionally. My worship of Him should never be conditional on what priest is saying mass, what band is playing, nor should it depend on entertainment by “Bozo”.
