Could a protestant here shed some light on the postion most non-Catholics have on Angels. it seems that the Catholic church honors and acknowledges Angels more so than any Christian denomination. After watching a few protestant services, and reading about some of the different denominations,It looks like most protestants do not acknowledge Angels in the same way Catholics do. Why is this?

Hi,

How does the CC view angels? I didnt know the CC honors them:confused: I thought the CC put more emphasis on honoring the Saints in heaven.🤷 I havent heard much talk about angels here(well honoring them anyway).

As far as I know, most protestants(if not all)believe in angels and that they look over us. The bible speaks of spiritual welfare between angels and demons(we cant see it but it is going on over our heads(so to speak))
I have not done a study on angels, but I do know there is much written about them in the bible. I even believe they still appear to us as humans and we dont know we have encountered one. That may or may not still be true but I believe it.👍
I dont believe we are told to honor angels because technically we are higher beings then they are (at least in heaven)🤷

Like I said I have never studied out biblical info. on angels.

Peace out:D

Billy Graham wrote a good book on Angels explaining them
ALL ( 👋 ) you may enjoy that too, its a older book

Then there is a fiction book by Frank Peretti, called This Present Darkness and the sequel Piercing the Darkness. if you want a perspective on things.

I think its like All said, we respect Angels, perhaps look to them but there is no worship of them. As they helped Jesus, they help us, perhaps care when we dont realise it.

Is this what you are wondering about???

Yes, Catholics honor angels because of their ability to pray perfectly within the will of God. Specifically, the Arch Angels such as Gabriel and Michael and our own specific guardian angel…some protestants have the specific idea of guardian angels too.

The Arch Angels serve at God’s pleasure and will, but our Guardian Angels are at our beck and call…

Catholics believe there are 9 Choirs of Angels. A fascinating topic for Catholics. “No” Catholics do not worship Angels or Saints. Catholics participate in worshiping God with the heavenly Angels and Saints at Mass. The 9 choirs of Angels are in the Bible. They are (ASSISTING ANGELS)1.SERAPHIM, 2.CHERIBUM, 3.THRONES),(MINISTERING ANGELS ) 4.DOMINATIONS, 5.VIRTUES, 6. POWERS,(MINISTERS AND GUARDIAN ANGELS) 7. PRINCIPALITIES, 8.ARCHANGELS, AND 9.ANGELS. Just wanted to introduce to you a part of a study on angels by Catholics. Coming from an evangelical background, from my experience, The topic on Angels is very limited and fictional. The Catholic Church has an immense study on angels. Again for clarification Catholics do not worship angels. Hope you continue your interest in Angels. Its an illuminating study.

“The best and most beautiful things in the Universe cannot be seen or even touched They can only be felt with the heart”

In my opinion for what its worth. To study and get a historical Christian understanding about angels is to study the ancient Catholic Saints and their writings, experiences, ect… Protestants dont go back pass the 15th century in angel theology. That is why the many non-Catholic denominations are limited in their angel theology and or have mixed views about faith in angels or not sure about them, unless you take a Catholic approach to angel theology. Not to mention the Jewish theology on angels is fascinating also. Ancient Jewish angelology parallels the Catholic angelology except St. Jeromes commentary on Jewish angelology names more angels from Jewish tradition than Catholics. The Jewish tradition on angels even goes far back as naming the fallen angels, I tell you its a remarkable study. I recommend getting or reading a ST. Jerome commentary on the Bible to start with. You wont regret it if your interests are angels.
Seek and You will find.

Maybe the question should be “who are angels” and go from there? 😉

Well, yes and no. We do, of course, believe in the angels and their work. That’s de fide, as is the existence of the choirs named in Holy Scripture. But many of the things pertinent to our beliefs about angels come from the work of St. Thomas Aquinas. Now although all of the (incredible!) work of St. Thomas is commended to the faithful for study and reflection, not all of what it contains is de fide.

When I worshiped among the Anglicans, they certainly acknowledged angels, and celebrated the feast of “St. Michael and all angels” in their calendar.

Blessings,

Gerry

Please, don’t forget the Angelic Doctor of the Catholic Church, St. Thomas Aquinas, an incredible philosopher/theologian!

Angels don’t accept worship, neither do we offer them worship!

We only worship God!

Angels can help but will ALWAYS respect FREE WILL! So, ask for their help.

In general, St. Michael Archangel is a protector.
St. Gabriel Archangel is a messenger & reveals the hidden.
St. Raphael Archangel is the healer.

Guardian Angels are our true “soul-mates”.

I love angels dearly!

Angels are (simply put) God’s messengers. They work on God’s behalf to help us along through life. 🙂

How can protestants acknowledge angelic help at all? There are those who believe angels look over us, as ALLFORHIM has stated, and there are Bible Christians who would be quick to say angels make their appearances to aid us, and we never see them again. (I’m seeing Della Reese and Touched by an Angel)
This is intercession, right? Wouldn’t that be a violation of going directly to Jesus Christ, or that the Holy Spirit is our guide and protector?
If the angels are less than man, in Heaven anyway as ALLFORHIM pointed out, why are prots so determined that those in Heaven cannot aid us as angels do? At God’s Will, of course.

To be sure Im not a bible only but for conversations sake, If a angel appeared then offered aid, I think myself anyway would figure they also helped our Lord so they would help us He even said so.

Thats what they do, its their job so to speak, it may be intercessory amoung other things, but the person would not have appealed or prayed to the angel for help, They would have prayed to Christ, and the angel showed up. That is the difference I guess.

This is not intercession that we invoke. God sends angels to help us on His behalf, meaning, we probably don’t know it’s happening but maybe have a feeling that “divine beings” had a hand in it. 🙂

But, (and I did understand you are not a “bible only”) for those that are, shouldn’t their automatic and visceral reaction be that this being is from Satan? The whole platform for many protestants rests on being able to go directly to Christ, to hear the HS directly and without error, etc. So if any being sets him/her/itself up as a mediator, their reaction should be the same as they think Catholics should have regarding saints, the Church, and the Blessed Mother.
OTOH, if the BVM has appeared,as at Fatima, to call the world to repentance, why can they not look upon that apparition as they would an angelic appartion? It is only possible because God must will it, and that it is done through no power that the angel or BVM has alone.

Hi,

I believe that when angels help us it is a direct command from God to do so and we probably have no idea it is happening. We may have prayed to God through Jesus and he answered us by sending an angel. I dont really see that as intercessary help as much as I see the angel following a command from God.

Actually, by the CC definition of intercessary prayers, an angel helping us would not be intercessary because we didnt ask the angel for help or to be helped by an angel. We just asked God for help and he sends it whichever way He wants. The help may even come by way of a human;) 🤷

Hi Gerry, your yes and no, to what? the belief in angels or the 9 choirs of angels or the technical term between Catholic Church teaching of the choirs of angels or just Catholics believe in the 9 choir of angels? Maybe this will help without going into naming earlier saints than St. Thomas Aquinas ( one of my favorites). The 9 choirs of angels are mentioned in the sacred scriptures I can list them for you if would like to be enlightened? anyhow, a choir named of angels are translated words into their action, for example Gabriel =the strength of God, Michael= who is like (El) God!. The Catechism of the Catholic Church technically does not name them as scripture does, but if you dig deep ( it takes a lttle effort to find them in faith) into the CCC reveals the many offices of the Choirs of Angels. As for Protestants, in my personal history of evangelicals dont have a clue of the 9 choirs of angels. In any exchange Angels and Demons are for real and the Catholic Church does teach both. My recommendation to protestants for a study on Angels is to look to Catholic authors. As far as Angilcan are concerned Angels is part of what they kept from the Holy Apostolic Catholic Church, many other denominations didnot or their founders did not teach them.
Struggling but keeping the faith

Of course Protestants believe in angels.

Most of what I believe comes from the catholic church as I was raised Catholic.

The nine orders of angels are not really all angels. Each order was created for a specific purpose. Angels are messengers of God. Not all the angelic type beings are messengers.

And YES! Angels are an interesting topic. I have to be careful, tho. It is also a source of temptation for me.

Just as a note the book I mentioned earlier by Billy Graham Angels Gods Secret Agents does cover all of what you mention. So while you may have not run into people who know, there are those that do. 🙂 Mr Graham even quotes John Calvin about Angels.

He does mention the reason he wrote the book is because of the interest in occult and little information on Angels. He felt Angels were lumped in with fairy tales and fables. And wanted to show people what they were about.

So I guess you could call it catching up, dont know, I figure thats all the more reason to be open to talking to one another to simply learn, because there is alot to know. 🙂
