In response to this comment in that post, I would be interested to start this topic to more closely examine one aspect of the comment. Here is my specific interest:

It sounds like the poster is saying here that the Catholic Church “Fathers” somehow “nullified” The Old Testament" with some kind of “covenant” gymnastics here. It seems like a very strange, very unBiblical claim to make; and I would like to see evidences for this kind of claim within the body of official Catholic documentation - such as the Catechism.

You’d have to ask Lilyflower what he/she meant, but I read “Old Testament that governed it” meaning the Jewish authorities who no longer had authority once the Apostles were given the Spirit.

Based on this quote; would Catholic doctrine support the thought that the Old Testament was “nullified” somehow by “unbinding” the “Hebrew Covenant?”

What is meant by “Hebrew Covenant” and what do Catholics call “Old Testament?”

If the OT was “nullified” then how can the “apocrypha” be so inspired, as they say it is?

What do Catholics teach about the Old Covenant, as it relates to the Protestant Canon of Scripture? Is there something “incomplete” therein re the Old Covenant, which needs further “expalining” by other materials or info?

It’s a very confusing quote, but there may be nothing more here than the belief that the church was instrumental in implementing what Reformed Christians would understand as the Analogy of Faith esp. wrt the New Testament being the lens through which the Old is understood.

“The New and everlasting covenant” was instituted by Jesus Christ in his blood and body at the last supper which concluded in his passion and crucifixion, then the old covenant was consummated into the New Covenant When Jesus resurrected from the dead, and at pentecost is where the holy spirit came upon the apostles and Mary, to confort them in spreading the Gospels of Jesus in the New covenant in his body and blood. Jesus handed Peter the keys to the kingdom of God, to feed his sheep, and teach his lambs, baptise every nation and tongue making the church he built on Peter the Catholic (Universal) Church.

The Catholic church is the fulfillment of the Law and prophets revealed by God himself in the old covenant in the body and blood of Jesus Christ. In Jesus Christ, is where the beleiver, rests in God where God is all and in all.
