As a reference point to see why I am starting this thread; please see also post 530: forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=238010&page=36
In response to this comment in that post, I would be interested to start this topic to more closely examine one aspect of the comment. Here is my specific interest:“What is not being acknowledged is the fact that the fathers of the CC codified the Old Testament on the basis of Christ’s command and instrument that unbinds the Hebrew covenant, nullifying the Old Testament that governed it. Thus it may be said that the Old Testament was therefore codified at the SAME TIME as the New Testament. Therefore Protestant 101 is wholly incorrect to argue that the Bible existed before the Catholic Church”
It sounds like the poster is saying here that the Catholic Church “Fathers” somehow “nullified” The Old Testament" with some kind of “covenant” gymnastics here. It seems like a very strange, very unBiblical claim to make; and I would like to see evidences for this kind of claim within the body of official Catholic documentation - such as the Catechism.“the fathers of the CC codified the Old Testament on the basis of Christ’s command and instrument that unbinds the Hebrew covenant, nullifying the Old Testament that governed it.”
