I voted other because it really depends on the picture.

The thing is that I really don’t care. If it’s a nice picture, then I’d probably keep it around. However, if it showed up on my door and I didn’t like the picture, then I’d toss it along with the business/political flyers that show up from time to time.

I don’t have a problem with pictures of Jesus, but after a certain point, I believe you can have too many.

In the end, I don’t want to be like my grandma who hoarded crosses and pictures of Jesus because that was one of her OCD “collections”. Yes, it’s great that she loved Jesus, but I’ve seen how it goes when you get obsessive and hoard a lot of religious material. She had Salvation Army magazines dating way back to before I was born. You can have too much of a good thing.
I agree, I throw a lot of stuff away that comes from nuns and missionaries because it is not quality.

However, I had in mind attaching this picture to a small frame with black background and a nice gold edging, with a fold out stand on the back so it could be placed on tables or desks.
It would also have a way to attach it to the wall. It is easy to just sit it on a desk or nightstand.
It isn’t the usual faded picture coming in the mail. It took some time to make just one.

I thought of putting on the envelope in handwriting, “A gift for you” and “A reminder that Jesus cares”. Or something along those lines.

There would be no id of any kind of what it is, where it came from, or any solicitation.

By the way I want to thank you for your replies. I picked this one because I thought it would be about what type of man he would look like. I need your (name removed by moderator)ut because I would like to give these to people to inspire their thoughts and hearts toward Jesus. I thought this would be a picture to do this. Everyone needs some incouragement from time to time and a little reminder to think of him. But if more people would reject this picture than to accept and use it, then I might think of something else to help them. I’m not particularly aiming this at Protestants only, but catholics as well. But I feel I already know what reaction catholics would have to this.

So again thanks for your answers.
Actually, I rather like that image. Probably a bit different, I am, in that I look at this kind of art in the same manner as I do music/hymnody. Some I like more than others aesthetically, but I also think artwork ought to reflect doctrine.

So many paintings throughout history depict Christ and other Biblical images. My love for art has been influenced by these paintings and by my love for Christ. I have even painted a couple myself (my secondary BA is in studio art).

Unless it was cartoonish or demonized in any way, I would definitely keep it and display it lovingly.

I too do not have a problem with pictures. However there is a part of me that just rejects the notion of pictures of a Caucasian Jesus with light hair and blue eyes. (really)? I would probably not throw it away, but would place it in one of my bibles for future reference or as a bookmark.

Most attempts at portraying Jesus are just too cheezy for me.

The sketch made from the Shroud is the only one I really like.
Someone call me?!

Depends on the picture.
I am not into ‘heart’ portraits.
Despite a usual preference for the living Christ, I am drawn to this one and want a print of it some day:

I also recommend a DVD regarding artists’ portrayals of Jesus:

Excellent DVD.

I do not see how this picture can represent only Jesus. It looks to me to be a portrait of any tortured man, so why would this piece be attractive to you? If it is supposed to be depicting Jesus in the tomb, this is not how Jewish people prepared the dead for burial.

I’d say, find a more enlightening picture to adore, one that would bring joy to your heart rather than that of pain.

…just my thoughts, though.

😦

Did other Protestants ever come across the icon of Jesus of the Divine Mercy?

I think I may have seen that image, but obviously, as a non-Catholic, I didn’t know what that was.

If the image is a true depiction of Jesus, then he really did have long, light brown hair.
the pictures i have seen always portray him with light brown hair, although i don’t know why.
at the begining of revelations it says his head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as
snow and his eyes were as aflame of fire, and his feet were like brass.

I don’t really know how to answer this poll, so I choose None of the Above. I have no theoretical objection to pictures of Jesus, though I may react to how good I think the picture is. And though we don’t really know what he looked like, most likely he resembled a typical Jew of the time period, so not very much like a blond Swede. I tend to have a negative reaction to such obviously unrealistic portrayals.
