Protestants Ash Wednesday

I was in Evangelical Protestantism for several years.

Not only did they not observe AW or Lent, they were rather self righteous about it, saying that AW and Lent were “Roman inventions.”

Not sure exactly where the anti-catholic notions began. Perhaps Reformers like Calvin & Zwingli did away with the church seasons/ calendar. Also the Puritans in England and America overtly rejected holy days like Ash Wednesday and even Easter though many Protestants today celebrate these festivals.

The only reasons why I would think one would stop being catholic and join a Lutheran church

• birth control
  -remarriage and divorce

I can’t think of another reason honestly it seems silly you are so close but so far away go to confession my friend

Correct, but he did not ever set out to create a new religion. All he wanted was his beloved church to examine itself and stop (what he viewed as ) the corruption of the faith as it was given to us.

There generally seems to be a lot of confusion about Luther’s intentions. Just clarifying he never “left” Catholicism and he didn’t call himself a Lutheran.

I wanted to correct some misconception about Eastern Catholics, some traditions Celebrate the first day of Lent by applying the ashes but it is done on Monday (Clear Monday) and it is called Ash Monday by them. This is done in the Syriac Catholic and the Maronite Church. I’m not sure if it is done by others as well.

Note: Lent starts on a Monday in Eastern tradition.
