Then how do you know when the Pope is infallible?
Conditions that must be met for a papal statement to be infallible
  • Must teach or in some way clarify
  • Can’t contradict previous teachings
  • Must involve faith and morals
  • To be held by all
  • Statement made of his own free will
  • He must invoke the full authority of his office

On a side note:
  1. Only Jesus is the Way, the Truth, the Life; the only way to the Father. Not the Catholic or Protestant churches or various denominations.
  2. There is only one name given under Heaven by which we can and must be saved and that name is not the Catholic or Protestant churches nor any of the denominations - That Name is Jesus Christ.
I and others have answered your question completely. I have even given you history where the title was used by many Protestants, which to the open minded would show that there is no problem.

As Catholics, we fully agree with your above statement and we follow the teachings of Jesus Christ through the Catholic Church which he established 2,000 years ago and guided by the Holy Spirit as shown in scripture to ensure mankind would have the truth.

Personally, because I’m not a Catholic, these things don’t concern me. I bring these up in the context of questioning Protestants. It does concern me when I’m told that my beliefs are incorrect because I don’t go to the correct church. I concerns me, not for me because I’m secure in what I know to be true, but for those making the statements. What do you think God thinks of statement ‘for God’ that contradict Him and His Word? Dangerous.
Thank you for this. It’s amazing how we are led to read just exactly what we need sometimes. I have been guilty of letting other’s opinions about my faith, drive me to defend it.It needs none of course, and speaks volumes more about the sad state of faith of the one doing the “correcting.” Bless you for coming along and setting me back on the right path. 🙂

  1. Mary is the new Ark of the Covenant because she bore the Word.
Jesus is The Ark of The Covenant. We lift up Christ as the priests lifted up the Ark and not Mary
Where does it say that Mary ever sinned?
Romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
The early Church fathers supported the Catholic view on Mary.
Any referances?

Of course we can all glean whatever we like from The Church Fathers anyway.

I can’t wait to see answers to these! God Bless Dokimas
DoKimas, You have some good questions Will you please start a new treand for each question and The Cathloics here will be more then happy to answer your question,I love your question about Cathloics calling priest fater and then the one about Peter.,Was Peter a pope I do not see the word pope in the Bible.,and you say Peter was married,This will be some very good thread,As a Cathloic I can not waite

I wonder if anyone on these forums has had their opinion swayed one way or the other as a result of these discussions, which to me seems like a bunch of smug, petty bickering.

I was baptised and confirmed by the Catholic Church this Easter, and I couldn’t be happier. One of the things that initially attracted me to the Church was how non-confrontational and non-judgmental Catholics seemed to be. I still feel that way. But when see a thread posted like this which is basically intended to pick a fight with our protestant brothers and sisters, I think the vast majority of Catholics are being misrepresented. Just a thought.

May I take the time to Thank Dorimas for showing all on the board Cathloic and non-cathloic how very little he/she knows about the Cathloic faith and Gods Church,THANKs you did a very good job

Would I be as sarcastic if I said, ‘Your welcome?’ 😃

I have listened to Catholic teaching on TV about these issues and I’ve listened Catholic radio. Sorry to say the answers given, while well thought out, just don’t match close enough to what I read in the Bible.

As I’ve said before in so many words, I see a ‘red flag’ when any one or any church says they have the correct teaching on all matters and God speaks (at least mostly) though us only. As I’ve said before … dangerous, very dangerous.

Romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
It seems to me that there was a website that provided answers to questions of this nature, from a Catholic perspective. Catholic Answers, I believe it was called.

Ah, yes. Here we are.

Signed,

Jesus is The Ark of The Covenant. We lift up Christ as the priests lifted up the Ark and not Mary
Jesus was the Word. Mary was the Ark that bore the Word.
Romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
How does this prove that Mary sinned? If you take that “all” as an “everybody” instead of a general “all”, then you get the fact that Jesus sinned, babies who have died sinned, babies who have been aborted sinned, etc.
Any referances?

Of course we can all glean whatever we like from The Church Fathers anyway.

Jesus is not the Ark of the New Covenant. The old Ark was where God dwelled (Ex. 25:8) - it was NOT God Himself. The new Ark is also where God dwelled for a time - Mary.

We lift up Mary, like the priests lifted up the old Ark, as you said. Both Arks are important, and are worthy of a special place, but neither one is God Himself, and neither is meant to be worshiped.

There are many other parallels between the old and new Ark:

It does concern me when I’m told that my beliefs are incorrect because I don’t go to the correct church.
It concerns me too, and I’m Catholic.

I don’t like to be told that Catholics are pagans and that I need to be saved because I’ve been brainwashed or something for my entire life.

The bickering is on both ends. It’s not just Catholics who do this.

I was recently looking for a Baptist forum to join so that I could ask questions; not to start fights, but because I was legitimately interested in their faith and what makes them so different or even similar to Catholics. As I was reading the board, I discovered that they no longer allowed Catholics to sign up. There were some threads that were downright antagonistic towards Catholics, and it really upset me that I wasn’t allowed to join their board.

At any rate, I would actually like to see the OP’s question answered. Even though I don’t think he had the best intentions, I think it’s still a legitimate question:

If God is One, then why do people think that they have the authority to split everything up and change everything around?

What do you think of these Bible verse, Mt.16:18-19,Mt18:17-18,1Tim3:15

Another “Protestants…” thread. Strawman erected. Bait cast out.

“Protestants can you help?” More like, “Protestants can you post so I can judge you and make a fool of you?”

Don’t play, folks.
Shh, your foiling the plot!

I am glad I am not the only one that notices this, I thought I was going paranoid for a while.

Love ya Bill.

Bill asked a good question. The situation and occurences actually happen. Look at all the different teachings, some have been posted on this board. I bet every responder could have added at the end of their answer, “I was guided by the Holy Spirit”.

I’ve talked to many non-Catholics about different subjects. Each time they give me their version of something I would tell them that yesterday Robert told me something different. The first person would almost always reply that he was guided by the Holy Spirit. Funny thing is that Robert told me HE was guided by the Holy Spirit also yet the “Holy Spirit” told them different things. Conclusion; almost everybody says they are guided by the Holy Spirit but they rarely agree on anything.

So, the problem is, whom do we believe if everybody says they are guided by the Holy Spirit yet have different beliefs?

By the way. I have never had anyone tell me that they were NOT guided by the Holy Spirit.

Hi Dokimas. Glancing over the posts that have been made here today, I see that you’re involved in several conversations on this same thread. So it may possibly be better to move the papal-infallibility discussion to a new thread. But, for the time being, I’ll keep it here and just try to keep it seperate from the other (and rather odd, from the looks of some of them) conversations in this thread.

You asked:
Is the Pope always infallible?
and:
Then how do you know when the Pope is infallible?
Before addressing your second question, let me ask you a variation of your first question: Was St. Paul always infallible?

Heh.

More like, “Can you post so I point to you how bad your beliefs are compared to our ‘most holy Church’s beliefs’ so I can try to convert you?”

More or less.
