Protestants:concerning moral teachings, when did the Catholic Church depart from truth into error?

I don’t think the 16th Century Reformation the Catholic Church derailed. Even Protestants could not agree on certain practices and doctrines.

There were abuses like selling indulgences which themselves were illegal since the Church has never condone the selling of indulgence.

Like I said before and I will say this again. The Church, the Catholic Church has never err because she, the Holy Mother Church, the Bride of Christ, the Mystical Body of Christ, is preserved from teaching erroneous doctrines.

I only trust the Church which Jesus Christ founded, not some 1517 man made religion of Protestantism.

I just had to say thank-you for helping to dispell some of the nonsense Catholic misconceptions, despite not being Catholic yourself. It really is nice to see Christians of all denominations coming together, one in Christ.

No problemo. I don’t take sides, I just try to impart the truth. Hopefully one day you’ll be able to count me among your Catholic bretheren. The true teachings of the Catholic Church have lead me in this direction with the assistance of sites such as these.

Who says we have to believe the Catholic Church departed from the truth concerning moral teachings anyway?

As far as I am concerned, you are to be commended for generally upholding the Biblical moral standard. . We are probably in 95% agreement.

The only thing that sticks out immediately in my mind is the contraception issue, but even on that I am not sure that you might be right.

Everthing else cited in this thread is really either denomination rules for clergy (celebate male only priests), is a vice common amongst all denominations (sexual mispractice in clergy) or has been fixed (indulgences). It is not a moral teaching though.

Somewhere I recall reading some evangelicals are rethinking this issue along more on Catholic lines. So maybe “generally” and “5%” is too broad.

But then again maybe there are some others that I haven’t thought of or are unaware of.

An interesting aside…google Quiverfull sometime. Here you will encounter folks that think the Catholic Church is too liberal on contraception…they oppose even natural family planning methods. I was in a church like that once a long time ago…it was wierd.

I hope no one is going to hell. In your opinion, do the abortificient effect of birth control pills contradict the (not just Catholic) belief that life begins at conception?
