They may be ‘well versed’ in what they think Catholicism is all about but believe me they really don’t. If they did, they would cease to be protestant and come home to the fullness of the true faith in the Catholic Church. I agree that to many Catholics are not as knowledgeable in their Catholic faith as they should be but that doesn’t make the teachings of the Catholic Church any less true. If one studied Catholicism from a Biblical’ viewpoint, in its entirety, one would defiantly become Catholic, that is if they truly want to follow Jesus Christ and HIS Church. I have one question for you. Where was the Bible for the first 400 years of Christianity and how were the people taught about Christ and His Church? They were taught by Sacred Tradition and that’s in the Bible too. And that’s Catholic. The Bible was put into it present form by the Catholic Church. It cannot be seperated from Sacred Tradition and the Catholic Church. We can see in all the divisions of protestantism today the harm that has done. The Bible only just doesn’t work.

You need to study the Early Church Fathers and then see who is really the one true Church. God Bless, Memaw
Thanks Memaw well said. The whole protestant v. Catholic debate boils down to the notion of sacred tradition and apostolic succession-the authority Christ gave to the apostles and their successors.

I would like to add that to be Protestant one has to deny the Bible in many areas. Such as the laying on of hands, the adding a 12th Apostles after Judas death etc. The Bible refutes Protestant beliefs by itself. One hardly needs support from Tradition to exclude many Protestant beliefs.

“Bac” = “born again Christian.”

Nothing suspicious. This thread is not about book recommendations.
Alright.
See what I mean? :coffeeread:
If you’re referring to your statement ‘But often when backed into a corner, theologically, the RC responds with “you misunderstand the Catholic faith.”’, then yes I do know what you mean.

Being Catholic doesn’t give us some kind of special “logic gene” that Protestants lack. Some Catholics use cheap tricks to try to win an argument, some Catholics don’t. Some Protestants use cheap tricks to try to win an argument, some Protestants don’t. None of this is news to me.

Not understanding as Protestants do support laying on of hands and the adding of another apostle after Judas.

They do believe in the Bible. The do not understand it’s meaning. They do not believe in these versus showing that Apostolic succession is a requirement. One can not be in Apostolic Succession unless one has hands laid upon them by one that had hands laid upon them in direct line from the Apostles. One can became a lay minister without the laying on of hands of a direct successor. They are not a Priest and can not give the Body and Blood of Christ.

This is the biggest pile of dung I have ever heard, and is exactly why so many would never succomb to the catholic rhetoric

Please refrain from attacks. Give your support for your belief.

I can provide centuries of support from the Church Fathers and from the Bible. In fact the Early Church Fathers were Catholic as defined in the year 107. Have you read the Didache from around the year 70 which supports Cathlocism not Protestantism.

I have not been on this site lately and do not have all my source material. I will bring it tomorrow. I can provide secular support for all of my statements.

Between the Alexandrian Precedent, Edwardian Ordinals, and Erasmian Consecration questions, my own ordination might or might not be “valid.” I can trace my own ordination to the Archbishop of Canterbury before the Reformation.

After twenty-some years of discernment, prayer, and conversations with those Catholic and non-Catholic, I’ve pretty much resigned myself to the fact that God could care less, I should worry less, and simply be a “doer” than just a “listener.” It’s a minor at best.

O+

Please, I am interested.

However, there are Protestants that do believe in apostalic ordination, meaning their ordinations can be traced back in history to some priest within the Catholic Church. I know this is argumented on both sides as to validity though.

Could you please attend an RCIA class (finish it) before attempting to argue Catholic versus Protestant theology…

Yes, i suppose Catholics should study various Protestant theologies also… but i feel most Catholics on the forums have (more or less) done that…

I’m sorry, but it really rankles me when Protestants think they know Catholic theology and they so positively DO NOT!!

another source of information about the true Catholic faith can be found here at Catholic Answers…

I just don’t think it is right to attack something you do not understand…
Thank you…

I hear all the time how “purgatory is a second chance at heaven” or “Catholics worship Mary” or “Catholics think the Pope is God”

and none of those are true… and if anyone studies Catholic doctrine or reads the Catechism at least they’ll see what is really taught by the Church.

I agree to an extent. If a Protestant minister studies the Bible, lives that life as best he understands and follows God’s natural law then he is good. If one knows the truth or should know the truth and rejects it is a rejection of Christ. For example as I have now been taught Cathlocism a rejection of Cathlocism for me would be an act of grave matter.

I certainly agree that who has Apostilic Succession is confusing to me. I do not know; which, Churches do and which Churches do not have it. As I have not been on this site for many months I do not recall where Lutherans etc stand on many issues. It will take me time to get reacquinted with several Protestant religions beliefs.

I am amazed at the fact that catholics do not agree with each other and speaking of demons, why are there so many different branches within the catholic church?

Christalone, could you be more specific? What disagreements among Catholics disturbs you?

Incidentally, are there any disagreements among Protestants that disturbs you as well? Do all Protestants agree on everything? Just to cite some examples, below is a list of issues which are sources of 40,000 different Christian denominational doctrines: (take from a post by ProdigalSon1)

Baptism
Rapture
Tongues (some believe others are not saved if they don’t speak in tongues)
Divorce
Abortion
Once saved, always saved
Music or no music (Singing or no singing)
Women pastors, no women pastors
Hell, or no hell
The Eucharist (Communion)
Sola scriptura/private interpretation
Ordination
Trinity vs. unitarianism
Church leadership, or no leadership
Head coverings or no head coverings
Health and wealth gospel
Drinking allowed, drinking not allowed)
Attend weekly services, don’t have to go to Church
Judge others, don’t judge others
What’s a sin, what is not a sin
Charity or no charity (help one another or let them help
themselves

So can I, but I am more interested in biblical proof.
What do you want Biblical proof for?

Note I do not have to use just the Bible as the Bible clearly states; but, for the interest of discussion I will use the Bible only. It appears that you have been on this site a bit as such you know that you can not support Sola Scriptura via the Bible. But I will play anyway.

Please start a thread and tell me what it is.

This world is made up of sinners that can embrace or reject Christ’s teachings. Catholics are no different. They can embrace Christ’s teachings or reject it. I can call myself a tree that doesn’t make me a tree. Many that state they are Catholic but aren’t.

As many state that they are Christian for simply being catholic. As is the statement that the catholic church is the only true church.

I agree that many Catholics are not Christian. That is very sad.

The Catholic Church is the one true Church. It does not mean Protestant are not part of the one mystical Church. On Earth there is only one true Church with the fullness of truth. Perhaps this is the thread you wish me to prove. Papal Authority or Infallibility
