Protestants: defend your use of artificial contraception

As I look around in my church congregation, I do NOT see large families. I see that most people have 2 or 3 children. I remember growing up, it was normal for a family of Catholics to have 7, 8, 9 children. No longer. I guess this generation isn’t buying the “no birth control” rule…
Vicky, I would recommend you read Kimberly Hahn’s testimony on how the teaching of the Church on contraception was the stepping stone on their conversion to the Catholic Church.

When she was a protestant, she did a thorough study and found to her dismay that the only true Christian position is the Catholic position.

You should read Humanae Vitae and perhaps you will understand why the Church teaches what she does.

I have read Home to Rome by the Hahns. Kimberly talks about the birth control issue in there. NOTHING will ever sway my opinion on this. I don’t believe in abortion AT ALL. I DO in birth control. The Duggars “19 kids and counting” sicken me. They don’t even take care of the babies, they make their older children do it for them. If you can’t afford, don’t want a child, DON’t have it. I have 2. I love them both to death. But to be perfectly honest, I’m not fond of children!!! I don’t want/ WONT HAVE anymore!!

Don’t talk about something you know nothing about. My “Birth” mother probably did feel that way. She gave me up for adoption as a newborn. I;) was raised by 2 of the kindest most loving parents on earth. They are my “Real” parent to me…

If she did you would not have been there to be placed for adoption.

I’m with other people on this forum that see a fundamental inconsistency between (to put it simply) allowing the use of a condom and allowing NFP. And in fact, the history of NFP seems to be as a concession to the disgruntled laity by the Church. Either you’re trying to prevent a pregnancy or you aren’t.

Arguments about how NFP is somehow open to life, whereas a condom isn’t are specious at best. Tell that to all the chastity education programs that try to scare kids into thinking that condoms aren’t really as reliable as you think. So which is it? Are condoms so reliable that even God couldn’t bypass them (which seems to be the claim against them as birth control), or are they so unreliable that you shouldn’t have sex at all (as told to unmarried teens)?

But she did the Godly thing to have you.

That is the point.

You are here because she did the Godly thing to have you.

Contraception is nothing more than me, me, me, I, I, I.

I will not. Non Serviam.

So, Catholics only have sex in order to have children?
No. But they are supposed to be open to the possiblity of children. They have sex and they let God decide whether He will bring forth children from that marital union.

It is all about God’s supremacy. Not ours.

God does not ask you to be “fond” of children. God asks you to be open to His will not thwart it.

God commands you to love. Loving is not about being fond. It is about a conscious act of will to love, to follow God’s command.

That will only happen when it ceases to be about vickimonica.

Your life is not about you.

This “I’m for contraception but not for abortion” is pure hogwash.

Former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson said that those who come for abortion were all contracepting.

**So let’s take this hypothetical scenario. Let’s suppose that despite your attempts at rejecting God’s will you still end up pregnant every single time.

What will you do? Will you give birth to all of them? Most likely not. With a mindset like yours, you will head off to the murder factory so you can kill your own child.

So quit telling yourself this lie for that is what it is - a lie.

You will abort should it happen that your attempt at contraception fails because you have already said that you don’t want children.

Murder begins in the heart. It begins with the hegemony of the self.

Trust me, I will NOT have to abort. I have had a Tubal Ligation, and would do it again in a HEARTBEAT… Oh, and thanks for the kind, loving Cristian words… 👍

Just for completeness, what if she used NFP to skip that particular conception?
This “I’m for contraception but not for abortion” is pure hogwash.
Why? I can understand in cases of certain types of contraception which have even the tiniest chance of killing an unborn embryo. (Of course then it should also be wrong to take any of the numerous medications that have the same chances of causing the same while the possibility of pregnancy exists.)

Wait, I thought contraception prevented God from giving you a baby… which is why it’s wrong. Doesn’t this statement just say it all? So are you presupposing it’s God’s will that you have the baby, or it isn’t? It can only be one or the other.
What will you do? Will you give birth to all of them? Most likely not. With a mindset like yours, you will head off to the murder factory so you can kill your own child.
Incredibly unfair: you ask a question, presuppose the answer, and build your argument off of that. I believe vickimonica 100% when she says she’s 100% against abortion. But let’s let her answer for herself.
So quit telling yourself this lie for that is what it is - a lie.

Maybe. I agree the question of abortion starts with “thou shalt not kill” and not with “what is a human”. But preventing a pregnancy is not equivalent to abortion. Even the Church does not consider them equivalent. Stop implying that anyone who is for contraception must be for abortion.

I totally understand why people who hate abortions can be in favor of contraception. I’m sure you can at least see the connection.

Thank you Copperblade. I am speechless. Wow. Kind, loving Christian site – not… 🤷

So you’ve mutilated yourself to ensure that God does not have a say in your life. Perfect self deification.

And yes, they are indeed loving and Christian.

Truth does not hurt and unless they ought to.

And deep down you know that I speak the truth.

Thank you Copperblade. I am speechless. Wow. Kind, loving Christian site – not… 🤷
You obviously equate kind and loving to mush.

Love and Truth go together. Love without truth is mere sentimentality.

It seems you have an aversion to truth.

By the way, you forgot to address the point of the analogy.

Suppose you had not mutilated yourself and are using only the pills and condom.

Suppose that in spite of these two you still became pregnant every time.

What happens to your “I’m pro contraception but not pro abortion?”
