Protestants, hatred and judgement

I am dismayed. I have long thought of our Protestant (specifically Baptist, but neither all inclusive nor limited to them) brothers and sisters as being “on fire” for Christ. But what I have found is hatred for any differing opinion than their own. I am not saying this about all Protestants, or even the majority… just the vocal ones. I followed a link in these forums to a blog that was anti-catholic… followed that to more blogs and began seeing what these folks believed.

Overall, they spent more time hating others than extending the loving arms of Christ to the sinner. I am not saying that we should ignore sin… Indeed we should not! But to hate the sinner as well as the sin?

What am I talking about? Well, I am talking about a man who calls himself a minister and calls women who contact him online whores and harlots… talks about how he fired one of his “domestics” because his child cried for 3-4 minutes after falling down and it distressed his stay at home wife (because women who work are whores)… In his writings he refers to African Americans as the N word, his idea of fun?.. to have friends dress up like immigration officers and scare his “domestics”…

Where is the love of Christ? Where is the part where he forgives? Where is what he can do for others not what they can do for him? Where is the part that he shows mercy and love to the sinners and the less fortunate?

Like I said… I am dismayed! I am a big girl and I can handle that he hates Catholics… but the why astounds me… apparently because he thinks we actually worship a priestess from Babylonia…huh? Why am I considered a whore in his eyes just because I have to work? And for that matter who set him as my judge? How can he hate another child of God? Who cares what color God made the child? If I am worthy of love from my heavenly father… than am I worthy of love? Of course I am! And so are you, and everyone else in the world.

Most of us that call ourselves Christians, understand that we should treat others as Children of God the Father and brothers and sisters of God the Son…so why is this a difficult thing for others?
 
I always have a few days of feeling dirty after reading some of the hate speech, in all its ugly forms, on the internet.

In general I think blogs are the height of narcissism, and try to steer clear of them.

Hope a few more days brings some peace back into your heart.
 
We have to bear in mind that whilst there is an element of hatefulness in some protestant churches, there are many that teach the same love that we learn about in Mass. I think it is unfair to assume that, just because one protestant church teaches in that manner, than all protestant churches are like that. Bear in mind how many protestant denominations there are and how few are alike. Some protestant churches are very loving and charitable. It is just a shame they haven’t got the fullness of the Catholic Church but it doesn’t make the people any less loving and Godly.
 
Sadly BlestOne, there are perversions of faith and belief in all religions. And this minister you speak of sounds like a total fruit-loop :rolleyes: . Nothing loving or Christ-like about his behavior. I am Southern Baptist by birth, and am in RCIA right now. I have never actually met one of these types of people in my experiance though…thankfully. All the folks from my old Baptist Church (for the most part:)) are a very loving bunch, and are true Christians. They love it when people from other faiths come to visit. A Catholic man was visiting as a guest of one of the church members not too long ago, but was a little reluctant because he had never been to a Baptist Church before and didn’t know what to expect, and the pastor said “It’s alright, were not gonna try and convert ya.” then he served him breakfast before sunday school (Southern Baptist’s like to feed people 😃 )

I think that some people, for whatever reason, mental illness, or some sort of trauma take their perception of their faith, and take it for a ride on the crazy train, and their ideas are not stable, sane, or right. What is really scary is that some of these folks have the right sort of personality and can convince other weakend souls that what they preach is the truth…then they end up in Nikes drinking cool-aid. They are the minority though I feel sure. Fear not, most Protestants are not like that at all 😉

I’ve said it before, BlestOne, but what you witness with those deluded folks is akin to someone addicted to pornography. While they would be loathe to touch such material, they have no difficulty becoming addicted to the spiritual pornography of distortions, half-truths and outright lies - the more lurid the better - about the Catholic Church. An ill-formed mind, nurtured on its own inadequacies, easily falls into the seduction of the pornographic of either sort. Such folks find more illicit pleasure in promoting their anti-Catholic agenda than in promoting the love of Christ, both in themselves personally and in their fellow man.

Linnyo, I agree, and I did state that it wasn’t the all or even the majority that act like this. I just wonder how anyone can follow leaders so full of hate and call themselves Christians. It is so sad that we cannot all rejoice in the love of God together. I am not perfect, and I don’t expect others to be either, but the filth spewed out in the name of God just astounds me!

I find myself feeling sorry for the people that this man shepherds! What if a person of color wanted to worship with them? Or a single mom that has to work? They would be labeled as vile to this church… What of sinners? Aren’t they most in need of God’s mercy? How do you admit to sin when they will condemn you?

I admit, I have limited experience with these types because I have always belonged to the Catholic Church… I was taught forgiveness and love… that nothing you could say or do would shock your confessor… that we should look for Christ in all people… etc… I guess I just wasn’t prepared for so much hate from a “Christian” group.

OMGosh!!! You are so right! I tried to contact this person and plead that he get his information about Catholics from Catholics, and I sent him a link to the online CCC… the scorn and hatred in his reply was so sad… and then he tried to advocate that I read his website to learn the REAL truth!

Let us pray that he is not so scornful of God’s needed mercy at his judgment. 😦

Give him Matthew 7 (cross reference Luke 6:37-42)

Considering the huge number of distinct, unrelated Protestant groups it’s really very unfair to not be specific about the ones you’re talking about. Saying “not all, just some” but simultaneously using the broad, indistictict label “Protestants” is unfair to the ones who are not hateful.

Protestants don’t see themselves as one group. They see themselves as a myriad of distinct, different groups. In fact, they view Catholics the same as they view the other Protestants – as a different, distinct group. Even the different Baptist divisions see themselves as distinct: Southern Baptists are not Conservative Baptists are not American Baptists are not Regular Baptists are not …

Where are you finding this? If it’s landoverbaptist.org then this is not a real fundamentalist. Landover Baptist Church is a parody site mocking fundamentalists. Unfortunately, some fundamentalists come pretty close to parodying themselves!

My dear Edwin… I know about that site and no, I am not speaking of them. I was trying to avoid giving this group any publicity, which is why I didn’t provide a link or website name. As it is, they have a presence on political blogs, religious blogs and even myspace… certainly they are trying to get their message out…

Did I ever tell you how much I enjoy reading your posts? You are a very well educated man… and you have a great name… My dad’s name was Edwin.
 
It is sad that those who claim to be christs spew such unchrist like things from there mouths.
Instead of being an encouragment to all who follow Christ.

Very disturbing. But alas, I’ve heard too much stuff growing up to be entirely surprised. Stuff like “spare the flags and burn the” word identical to “flags” but without an “l.” Stuff like “if God wanted the races to marry, he wouldn’t have made them different” (which ironically implies polygenism!).
Did I ever tell you how much I enjoy reading your posts?

I guess what really gets me about these groups is that they are so outrageous that they make all Christians look like raving loonies… They recently pulled their support from Sam Brownback because

  1. *]He is Catholic
    *]He apparently snubbed them at a rally
    *]He won’t link to their site from his
    So they withdrew their support… which is their right… but because they had sent him money, they are now calling him a swindler. They referred to him as BareBack…and Brokeback insinuating immoral behavior. One of the women went on a whole tirade about how she should have trusted her momma and Catholics are a bunch of “hem licking” idol worshipers that can’t be trusted. Does anyone know why hem licking is supposed to be an insult?
 
There was a woman in the bible, that believed that merely touching the hem of Jesus’ garment would provide a healing miracle.
If we are hem-lickers, So be it!

See… that is exactly what came to mind for me too… I just don’t see where the “hem lickers” as an insult comes from… am I just stupid or what?
