Protestants, how do you interpret 1 Peter 3:18-20?

This is for all Protestants on this board. How do you interpret 1 Peter 3:18-20?

"18For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

*19By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

*20Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is,
eight souls were saved by water."
 
Christ died for our sins and preached at a prison and saved 8 people?
 
I dunno. How are we supposed to interpret it differently from Catholics?

I was just curious on how you interpret that passage, especially verse 19. It didn’t make any sense to me until I started looking into the Catholic Church. I don’t want to start an argument, but I just wanted to know how Protestants take this passage. Catholics believe it to be a refference to Purgatory.
