Protestants in purgatory

It just occurred to me that if being protestant doesn’t automatically send someone to hell, but will probably have a stay in purgatory before they continue to heave, then what goes through their mind? That doesn’t sound very clear, let me try another way.

I do believe there are protestants who, after death, have an ultimate destiny of heaven. I think they will more than likely have a stay in purgatory. I wonder where they think they are… if what some say is true (about the fires of purgatory – as seen in visions granted to some), do you think they might think they are in hell?

It still sounds stupid I know. I can’t quite wrap my brain around it… :confused:

I guess what I’m trying to say is if the fires of purgatory are as hot as people who have been given visions say they are, then how (espescially if someone is a protestant with no concept of purgatory) does someone know they are in purgatory and not hell?

Okay does that make any sense?
 
I think when you die there’s an initial judgment so you understand “where” and why you are. Saints have had visions of suffering souls in purgatory and it seemed like they all knew what was going on.
 
I think people willingly go through purgatory. My guess is they know what they’re going through. In fact, they will choose to go through it. But, think about this: Nobody’s praying for them; No Mass is being offered for them. Personally, I’ve made them part of my prayers.

Actually the opposite is true, many people offer prayers for the souls in purgatory and they also have masses for them. All Souls Day on November 2nd is their feast day.

Okay, I really don’t mean to sound picky, but what do you mean by specifically? I don’t think we know who specifially is in purgatory…

I’m not trying to offend you…
 
I went to Mass this morning and we had a special intention for all Souls in Purgatory. I don’t remember ever praying for a particular denomination’s souls in Purgatory, even Catholics.

What goes through their minds? I’m sure the same as what will go through everybody’s minds. “What was I thinking!” “How could I have rejected the truth so often?!” “Why did I seek after useless desires instead of seeking You?!” “Thank You, Dear Lord and Father, for having mercy on me, a sinner!”

I think what they meant was that if they are Protestant, then their protestant friends, who don’t believe in purgatory, obviously are not praying for their souls. So it’s up to you and me and all other good Catholics to offer Masses for them and to pray for their souls!

I’m pretty sure I’ll have a long stay in purgatory. Y’all can specifically pray for me!!! In fact, you are more than welcome to start now!!

At the All Souls Mass, father in his sermon spoke on how much we needed to pray and make sacrifices for souls in purgatory, even for the ones we think already to be in heaven. But then, he also said to pray especially for the souls of Protestants for they are going to be in purgatory for a much longer time since they did not believe there is a purgatory.
 
Saint Gertrude was told by Our Lord that the following prayer would release 1000 souls from Purgatory each time it is said. The prayer was extended to include living sinners as well:

“O Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory and for sinners everywhere – for sinners in the universal Church, for those in my own home and in my own family. Amen.”

Just because a person does not believe in the fires of hell does not mean they will not burn in it.
Just because a person does not believe in purgatory does not mean they will not be purified in it.

Somewhere I read a quote (I can’t remember by whom) who said that when Protestants die, they’re going to be surprised to find the afterlife is much more Catholic than they ever expected.
