Dear friends in Christ.

In you’re opinion what is the single most signifiant verse in the Bible? Why?

For me it is Matthew 8:8 because I am reminded how much Christ loves us.

Love and prayers,

Romans 8 :28 And we know that all thing work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose

John 3:16-It is the best known and has a lot to it.
I love Hebrews 12:1-2 as well.

John 3: 16 is certainly a profound and beautiful message! But is it complete? John 3:5, 3:36 suggest perhaps not.

Love and prayers,

Pat

Excellent choice:)

Perhaps you’d share waht is meant by “to them that are called to His purpose?”

Love and prayers,

Pat

Why pick one verse? It is like picking one color and calling it the best. The whole Scriptures is good. All the colors are good.

Love and prayers,
I agree with Eucharisted, why pick one? But, for the fun of your thread, Pat,

John 11:35 “Jesus wept.”

The idea of having to" select a single verse from thousands of possibilities is in my opinion a challange to really think about what is important to us [in the present moment] and where one is currently with ones personal relationship with Chrsit.

It seems to me that there are no truly wrong answers, but much to be gained in personal insights to the Divine Magesty of our God.

Jon, why in this instance did Jesus weep? Does the cause still exist today?

Love and prayers,

Pat

It’s a fool’s errand to pick just one, but I like John 1:1-5 –

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.”

Pastor thanks for answering God’s call.

Why is it that the Trinity was “hidden” [not revealed] in OT times?

Love and prayers,

I can see what you’re saying here, Pat. It kind of makes us “read on” and depend on the HS to help us find what our blindness often hides.

He wept for his friend, Lazarus, and the women and friends around him that were themselves weeping. And in an extended way, through his humanity, he weeps for you and me, and our pains and trials. So yes, the cause still exists today. That he loved us long before we loved him, and that he wept for sinful beings, is beyond my understanding.

I agree, But since we are picking. I’ll do both…
John 1:1 [without this nothing else can be or matter.]

John 1:1-5.

1
** In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.**
2
He was in the beginning with God.
3
All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be
4
through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race;
5
the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

regards. 😃

Jesus wept over the sins of the world, over the damnation of souls, over the suffering He would have to undergo, and over the souls who would be ungrateful after His Passion.

Jesus wept over the sins of the world, over the damnation of souls, over the suffering He would have to undergo, and over the souls who would be ungrateful after His Passion.
He wept over the sins of the world, because He was agonized by the offenses and blasphemies against God. He as Man was so fearful of the Lord that He could not even stand the least sin. He as God knows all too well the horror, disgust, and unnaturalness of sin.

He wept over the damnation of souls, because He was agonized by the loss of poor sinners, created by and for God. He as Man was so devoted to the salvation of souls that He could not even stand the loss of even the most wicked soul. He as God knows all too well the beauty of the soul, the reason He created it, and the happiness and glory awaiting man in Heaven - most especially the Beatific Vision.

He wept over the suffering He would have to undergo, because He was agonized by the amount it would take to redeem mankind. He as Man was so aware of the terrible cross and the disgust man has for it that He could not even stand to take a sip of the Cup. He as God knows all too well the sufferings which men - all of whom are in the New Adam - would have to undergo and the knowledge of this made Him want to save man from the evil of suffering but at the same time knew what had to happen via Providence (this is a great mystery!).

He wept over the souls who would be ungrateful after His Passion, because He was agonized by the new offenses and blasphemies which would come against God and by the thought that many would not care for how far God had gone to reveal Himself as Love and Mercy - to show man how much He loved him and how merciful He is to him. He as Man was crushed by the indifference and lukewarmness of many of His brothers and sisters, for whom He had paid the price of their Redemption by the spilling of His Precious Blood. He as God was saddened by the new sins which would be introduced into the world after the Passion and the manner with which many men would treat His Children.

Granted, this is but my speculation.

Gen 1,31

It shows me that there is still hope for me, not everything is lost. God sees over time.

In you’re opinion what is the single most signifiant verse in the Bible? Why?
Probably Matthew 7:12:
In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
I think it’s a nice summing up of Jesus’ message in the Gospels.

I agree with the scripture you picked , but am not thrilled with your translation.
