The second verse of “What Child is This”, usually omitted in secular renditions, makes this the most powerful Christmas hymn for me:
Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and *** are feeding?
Good Christians, fear, for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you.

Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
The babe, the son of Mary.

“The cross be borne for me, for you”

When we sang this in my former Episcopal parish, the words were:

“The cross he bore for me, for you.” And yes, I agree that it is a most powerful statement within an otherwise sentimental song.

I have to many to count some are:

“This is my Body”, “I wave my white flag”," Let my words be few", “Eagles Wings”,and “Here I am Lord” 👍

I am Catholic and my favorite songs are:

Classic Hyms:

I Heard The Voice of Jesus Say

The King of Love My Shepherd Is

Were You There when they crucifed my Lord

I sing the mighty power of God

Contemporary Christian:

Your Grace Is Enough, by Matt Mahr

If You Want Me To by Ginny Owens

Healing Hand of God by Jeremy Camp

King of Glory by Third Day

From an ELCA Lutheran –

Lift High the Cross
Thee We Adore, O Hidden Savior
A Mighty Fortress
Lord, Keep Us Steadfast in Your Word

Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus
Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven

and dozens more!😃
