Hi;
I have read in this forum that Protestants are lower class Christians, Christians that are still searching for truth, that the Protestant faith is superficial, that the joy that Protestant seem to have is not real, and a host of other junk!
So first let me tell you this, the more I practice my Baptist faith the closer I become to the Lord Jesus Christ and the more I understand the truths and the mysteries in Gods Word. The more I practice my Baptist faith the more I feel the leading of the Holy Spirit.
The more I practice my Baptist faith the more secure my salvation becomes.
(Romans 8:33)(NIV) Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is god who justifies*
The Catholic Church does not have the authority to say who has the fullness of the faith or who is at the top of the ladder in faithness to Christ, it is God that justifies not the Chatholic church or Catholics themselves.
I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my god; for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered my with the robe of rigtheousness, etc (Isaiah 61;10

Hi allischalmers, I think you are detecting the sin of pride in catholics.

Allis, you say that somebody said that Protestants were “lower class Christians”, would you mind posting a link?

First, if somebody just said straight out “Protestants are lower class Christians”. . .that’s an issue to bring to the attention of the mods. It’s against forum rules.

BUT… .if somebody said, “Some people think Protestants are lower class Christians”. . .that’s a horse of a different color, don’t you think?

Lots of phrases can look rather damning if they are not viewed IN CONTEXT. . .

So please relieve my mind. Post the link to those phrases.

If you are going to accuse nameless “posters” of uncharitable behavior, I think that those you accuse should have the opportunity to respond to you. . .

Otherwise, it looks like (IMO) somebody trying to play the “victim” card… . and that’s not a judgment or scenario that I feel comfortable responding to. . .

I apologize that these things have been said and if I, or my fellow Catholics, have made you feel this way. I promise you that is not the intent of this website. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ…unkind words from Catholics or Protestants is neither desired nor helpful.

In Christ,
Lisa

This is why we don’t see eye to eye.

If you saw the various things you say you saw on this forum, did you take it up with the person who said it right then and there? I hope so.

I also hope all Christians, Catholic or otherwise, are searching for Truth and continue to do so until they are united in Christ and see Him face to face.

Don’t allow other people’s responses dictate your feelings. Why become angry because someone else doesn’t see you in the light you know yourself to be? If you are secure in your relationship with Christ there is nothing anyone can say to move that. In all instances praise the Lord. In good and bad, sun and rain, in joy and in pain we praise His holy name.

Lower class Christians has already been addressed and I completely agree. Report it. Link it.

Christians are still searching for truth. Well, that would appear to be true since churches are being formed everyday. Disagree with your pastor? Start a new church. It has happened about 4 times this year in my small town of 6,000 people.

That the Protestant faith is superficial. I disagree with this statement and have done so on numerous occasions against Catholics who say so. Just because I do not believe it has the fullness of truth in no way implies superficial. The same goes with the joy part.

There are Catholics who could say the same thing. As a matter of fact there are Mormons, JW’s, Buddhist, Muslims etc who would say that of their particular faith.

I do not mean that disrespectfully, but we are told by Scripture itself that there are those who will call out “Lord, Lord” and God will not know them. Self-delusion is going to happen to people.

I am not passing judgement on you. I am just saying that just because you feel something to be true, does not make it so. Scripture warns us of that.
The Catholic Church does not have the authority to say who has the fullness of the faith…
Scripture, and according to Scripture Christ, would disagree with you. Scripture tells us the Church is the pillar and foundation of Truth, etc (I can go on and on but not the correct thread to do so).

There is ONE Church that is that pillar. That Pillar is the Catholic Church.

God Bless,
Maria

Who are you trying to convince, us or yourself?

Dont let others undermine your faith, if you are this upset about what someone else said about your faith, how strong was that faith to begin with?

God bless

I do not have to convince anyone, my faith has found a resting place, it is enough that Jesus died and that he died for ME.

Even now let there ring in your ears that excellent sound which you shall hear when the angels, celebrating your salvation, chant, ‘Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven’ on the day when, like new stars of the Church, you will enter, your bodies bright, your souls shinning! I would personally never class a baptist as a second class citizen. There are certain beliefs that Baptist and Catholics differ on but the main belief we all have in is Christ. Nobody in Chirst is second class. We all have different ways of obtaining our salvation. Us as Catholics just believe in the universal church that was created by Jesus and the apostles.
Don’t take it too hard. I am a new member and I have not seen a Catholic on here be intentionally rude towards another demonination.
On a side note it is good to hear you are strong in your faith. If you want to learn more about Catholicism and why we practice the way we do please do not be afraid to ask.

God Bless,
Jon

As a Catholic and since Catholics are united in their faith, I can speak for all of us when I say we all agree 100% on those Scripture passages and how living a Christian life will bring you closer to God. This is why Catholics believe that it is faith working through love which we must practice. This is essential to us living a Christian life.

Now I see that you presented a false belief of Catholics, we don’t think the Catholic Church justifies nor do Catholics. I would question the source of that false understanding of Catholic belief and invite you to learn more about proper Catholic understanding.
Many non Catholics present false understandings of Catholic belief and protest against this, this is unfortunately the cause of division.
We affirm truth, and I invite you to too.

God Bless

Hi, Allischalmers! There is much that I value and treasure from my upbringing in the Baptist church, ie, the emphasis on Bible study, the emphasis on a “personal” relationship with Christ
(we Catholics use different words to express the same reality and I don’t see how one can get more personal than receiving Him in Holy Communion), and there are things I frankly miss (our modern Catholic music is a desert, thanks to the likes of Oregon Catholic Press, and I’d love to hear “Nothing, But the Blood of Jesus” and “Softy and Tenderly Jesus is Calling” and “Just As I Am” (which was used in the Anglican church as a communion hymn and I wish we used it that way as well). I understand your sentiments and I apologize for any arrogance or “triumphalism” on the part of any Catholic with whom you may have come in contact. That’s NEVER appropriate, as all who are saved are saved by Grace (something the Catholic Church has always taught) and none of us has anything to brag about. I will say that all of the things you feel about being a Baptist, I feel about being a Catholic.

One thing for you to consider, however: when you talk to a Catholic, would you wish the Catholic to lie about the Catholic faith or misinform you by watering down the Catholic faith?

I’m glad to hear that you have a close relationship with Jesus, and feel the leading of the Holy Spirit. I pray that continues.
As for security in salvation, have you committed a sin after you accpeted Christ? If so, are you still saved?
Does God just decide to ignore the sins we commit after we accept Christ, or does a true conversion experience mean that a true Christian will live the rest of their life without any sin whatsoever?

Did Peter, Paul, John, and the other authority to tell a Church that they were teaching something incorrect?
Catholics believe that the bishops have the authority of the apostles.

Catholics do not argue that Catholics are necessarily more holy than Protestants. But they do argue that Catholics contain the fullness of the truth, and that Catholics are a part of the original Church, the Church that Christ founded and the apostles built.

In 1 John 1:8 we read"*If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us". So yes I have sinned since I was born again. Every one does.
And in 1 John 2;1 it says that “If any man sin, we have a advocate with the Father, Christ Jesus the righteous.” So you see my adovcate is pleading my case (that’s what an adovcate does)with the Father. And what Christ Jesus is saying is that He went to the cross and that he died from me, that he spilt his BLOOD for me and that BLOOD has washed away all my sins.
But has God overlooked my sins, NO. If I were to continue to sin God would chasten me just like a father would chasten his own wayward son. Would I lose my salvation, NO, NO, NO

How does God chasten you, if not in the afterlife? Do Baptists believe in Purgatory?

If Baptists don’t believe that their church is the source of the true Word, don’t you think that would be pretty hypocritical to be a Baptist? Each of us worships in the religion we chose because we think our religion is the source of the true Word. Don’t you agree?
