Not baiting. We accuse you of saying you don’t love Her, you all (I’m grouping you with the Protestants, see?) say, We DO love Her because we treat Her as She is treated in the Bible…or something. One thread for all of this.

That’s fine, you’re entitled to your opinion. I don’t represent Protestant thought as a whole, so I’m not putting myself in a position to be looked at as such.

As a non-Catholic believer I do love Miriyam because she was a faithful, Torah observant Jewess. Which is why I refuse to pray to her, say Rosarys or put up statues of her, or capitalize pronouns referring to her (thus idolalizing her).

I appreciate Miriyam for who she was, the sinful yet blessed, earthly vessel through whom God chose to use for the incarnation of His Son, and who herself needed a Savior. She was no more greater a servant than others in Scripture which is why Scripture doesn’t elevate her.

Miriyam, should she see what happens on earth and I don’t believe she can, would be grieved and dismayed beyond belief at the role to which the RCC and it’s adherents have elevated her.

May I ask, how does this love manifest itself. What I mean is, love must have an expression, a way of defining and showing itself. So how does you love for Miryam express itself - how would I know, for example, if I met you and we got talking, or I visited you home, what would I see or observe or hear that would tell me you love Miriyam.

Well, I kinda answered that in my post. My expression of love is to give her her proper place. Not to blaspheme by praying to her, but rather to the Father. I would dishonor Miriyam and show I *don’t love her *by elevating her to something she is not, that is NEVER discussed in Scriptures. I would then have turned her into something she would’ve detested as a Jew, elevated her to a goddess.

I love her by placing her and her Son in their proper places in history. Telling her story as it comes up in Bible study but not going beyond the Scriptures to fabricated myths about her perpetual virginity, immaculate conception or assumption.

Miriyam was the Lord’s servant (Luke 1:38) as are ALL saints who surrender their lives to Christ. We see ALL the Lord’s true servants defining themselves by Christ and deferring all glory to Him.

I elevate Him in my life, heart and deeds because He, as God in the flesh, is worthy of all honor and praise and glory.

If we were talking, you would know that I loved her by placing her Son above all else in my life and conversation. THAT is what Miriyam would want for us to show our love to her, by single-mindedly placing ALL our devotion on her Son, who deserves adoration and devotion, not her.

So if you visited my home, the focus would be on her Son and by default I am loving and honoring her because that is how she would want it as a God-fearing and faithful woman.

How about, “For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed”? (Luke 1:48 RSV) It may not exactly be a command, but we all are certainly part of “all generations.”

I’m a Catholic too but JA, I thought we were supposed to love our neighbors as ourselves. So why don’t you love Mary as yourself as Scripture commands us to do, at the very least?

I can’t understand how someone can be ‘blessed’ by us, but not loved by us.

And I certainly can’t understand how Christians, who are supposed to love one another. . .in fact. according to the gospel of St. John, that is how we can know we are Christians, by the love we bear one another. . .can say that any person, particularly one who is ‘blessed by all generations’ and chosen to be the Mother of God. . .does not ‘need to be loved.’

It just doesn’t add up.

Hey Catholic again. tongue ‘Need to be loved,’ was not used, but, “does not mean we are to love her,” was. I don’t know if I am splitting hairs (or maybe not seeing the right post), but, there may be a difference.

I am sure the poster didn’t mean to say such an unGodly thing, but, will in the future clarify his position.

Mary is not your neighbor. Loving your neighbor as yourself has to do with your relationships in this world and not the next.

Mary was only the mother of the Lord Jesus while in His incarnation. The Scriptures never portray her as being the mother of anyone else except being the mother of the brothers and sisters of Jesus .
Secondly that relationship does not exist in heaven. We see this alluded to in Matthew 22:30 where Jesus addresses the relationship of the woman who had 7 husbands and the Saducees asked Him whose husband will be her husband in the after life since she had 7 here.
