This is a facile overstatement.

Are you claiming that most Protestants err in their faith?
There are thousands of denominations, all with slight to great differences in doctrines, all based on someone’s private interpretation. There is only one truth, or it isn’t truth

Welcome to the forum BTW. 👋.

there definately are Protesants who take the Sola Fide approach to mean that one does not need to do anything as a believer.

what they miss is the fact that Christ calls us to bear fruits. if we have believed and been saved by faith and are now, by God’s grace, grafted onto Christ, we will bear fruit.

professing Christian faith and having an intellectual understanding of Christianity while still living like a monster and doing nothing by way of discipleship does not equal being alive in and to and for Christ. if Christ did not want us to do certain things and live, in Him, in new ways, He would not have given us all those commandments and standards.

if we did not still sin under grace and need to ask God’s pardon and help, Christ would not have included “forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us” in the Lord’s prayer as something we ought to pray on.
So true. Ironic, this last Sunday the sermon was critical of the false thinking. He chided those who think all they need to do is say the sinners prayer,

Which truth is that?

And do you actually believe that ALL Protestant tenets within denominations are based on a single person’s “private interpretation”? I am not sure that you understand how Protestant tenets are developed in many cases. Especially those that do not have pontiffs whose edicts are virtually sacrosanct.

The irony is, alot of Protestant Churches are setting themselves up with a heirarchy, just like the one they condemn. Then you have the self starter Churches that are small and trying to follow the Bible. I have been a member of both of those kind, when I was a Protestant. Either way, it was based on someone’s private interpretation since the reformation.

For over a thousand years, there was only one interpretation. Then there was the great schism, but interpretations remained close and disagreements were few. When the Protestant reformation took place in the 1500s, private interpretation was the defense. It must have been a good defense as Luther’s followers left him, for their own private interpretation. Churches have been fragmenting since and new Churches are still being started, over interpretational differences.

When you dig into each Protestant Churches history, it began with one’s interpretation. Sure they may have began a ‘group’ or heirarchy, but they found people who agreed with their interpretation for whatever reason. Now, if you take 10 different denominations, all with different teachings, and ask them all how they got their interpretation, they will tell you it was the Holy Spirit. Does the Holy Spirit give out multiple truths? Can multiple conflicting truths be truth?

Christ established a Church-Protetsants have distored it-some of them more radically than others but in the end they all walked away form the One True Church. God is not the author of confusion-you cant have 10s of thousands of different versions of the truth.

I’ll tackle it for you. God will judge us by our works. If your works don’t live up to Gods standard, you will go to hell. However, God, loving us as He does, gave us the greatest gift ever known. Jesus Christ. Therefore, those who truly believe in the resurrected Son of God have a free pass to Heaven, regardless of works. Those who rely on their works to save had better live a perfect life like the mighty Pope, lol. (sarcasm)

You know, as a Catholic, I believe this.
Protestants don’t believe that truth can be known.

I don’t know how to show them from bible only that **truth can be known.

You really dont have much of a grasp of Catholic doctrine, do you?

Oh no not the Faith and Works debate. I am going to put it to you like this. I bought a TV with a built in DVD player. a bought a TV with a standalone DVD player. No matter how one sees it you bought a TV with a DVD player.
Believe - –verb (used without object)
  1. to have confidence in the truth, the existence, or the reliability of something, although without absolute proof that one is right in doing so: Only if one believes in something can one act purposefully.
Accept - –verb (used with object)
  1. to take or receive (something offered); receive with approval or favor: to accept a present; to accept a proposal.
Profess - –verb (used with object)
  1. to lay claim to, often insincerely; pretend to: He professed extreme regret.
Wow these are all verbs? Huh what is a verb? Abbr. V or vb.
a. The part of speech that expresses existence, action, or occurrence in most languages.
Some kind of work is needed.

nice try. english luckily is my main language. (and only, lol)

you quote from a dictionary, I’ll quote from scripture.
1st John 1:7- …and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

repentance is not turning from one’s sins; Repentance is turning to the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved from one’s sins. Lordship salvation is a damnable heresy. The gospel of John mentions “believe” 85 times without ever mentioning the word “repent”. while “turning” to the Lord is an action, it is turning to the Lord to be saved from the condemnation of sin, not the act of sin itself.

I miss where the doctrines of man have anything to do with salvation. John 3:3 clearly states we must be “born again”. I’ve been born again through the words of the Bible. I trust Jesus as my Savior. Should I be worried I’m not eating little cookies that contain the flesh of Jesus or something? O no! Well, I guess I’ll have to live without that aspect of salvation. the cookie eating. I guess the Cookie Monster is probably Catholic, huh? 🙂

We can and do show them.

**Eph 3:10 That the manifold wisdom of God may be made known to the principalities and powers in heavenly places through the church,

1Ti 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. **

It’s too much for some to believe they’ve missed it somehow, which contradicts 'don’t believe that truth can be known. They feel they know and possess truth already in their Bibles and cannot question certain scriptures, that conflict with their beliefs, among their peers.

🤷

But what is sad among so many friends I used to worship with as a protestant, is they no longer attend “church” anymore, because they know wherever they go, there is something wrong with it, so they reinterpret “Keep the Lord’s Day Holy” to mean whatever they are doing.

Thanks for these verses. I will share them.

If you have faith but do not keep the commandments, will you still get a free pass to heaven?

John 3:3 clearly states that we are born again by water baptism
I trust Jesus as my Savior
.
Then you should trust what Jesus actually says
“Unless one is born of water and the spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God”
Should I be worried I’m not eating little cookies that contain the flesh of Jesus or something?
If you trust Jesus you will.
“Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood you have no life in you. He who eats my flesh and drinks my bllod has eternal life”
O no! Well, I guess I’ll have to live without that aspect of salvation
.
If you trust Jesus, as you claim, why would you want to do that?

I don’t think you will last long on these forums, unless you read and adhere to the rules. One must be respectful of the Catholic faith in their posts. I’ll be quite honest and let you know, I reported your ‘cookie monster’ post further down in this thread, that was before I saw your (sarcasm) post quoted above.

Now, in reference to this post and the 'free pass, regardless of works. Please take a moment to respond to your view of the scriptures below:

**Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Mat 24:13 But he that shall persevere to the end, he shall be saved.

Php 2:12 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, (as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only but much more now in my absence) with fear and trembling work out your salvation.

1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened to them in figure: and they are written for our correction, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
1Co 10:12 Wherefore, he that thinketh himself to stand, let him take heed lest he fall.

Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once illuminated, have tasted also the heavenly gift and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
Heb 6:5 Have moreover tasted the good word of God and the powers of the world to come,
Heb 6:6 And are fallen away: to be renewed again to penance, crucifying again to themselves the Son of God and making him a mockery.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after having the knowledge of the truth, there is now left no sacrifice for sins:
Heb 10:27 But a certain dreadful expectation of judgment, and the rage of a fire which shall consume the adversaries.**

Also, in the future, why not post supporting scriptures for the truth you espouse? I’d really appreciate it if you would start by posting the scriptures that say one gets a ‘free pass, regardless of works’.
