tweetymom, I have done my best to respond to all questions and points raised, with scriptures to support my view. I have raised several questions and points myself, none of which have been directly responded too. Why?

If the Bible is the only authority, surely it will say so. Please provide the scriptures that specifically state that scriptures are the only authority for all Christians?

The question is as fair as someone stating, the Church is not the Catholic Church because it does not say it’s the Catholic Church. Using the same tactics, one can claim it does not say it’s not the Catholic Church!
You are correct on you last statement. Wee believers are THE CHURCH.

Yes we are. But there is a teaching authority, established by Christ, within that Church. And that teaching authority is the Pope and the Bishops, who are the true successors of Peter and the Apostles.

Once again, correct, ProdicalSon. However, when the CC tells everyone else they are wrong on specific issues, aren’t they causing a division? I think Paul wrote on this issue (sort of) in Romans 14. Note, Paul doesn’t tell the ‘stronger’ members to ‘lord’ it over the weaker telling the weaker members that they are wrong. (I understand the shoe fits both of us but seeing how you believe your church is the only correct and true decendant of the original church, the shoe fits you better.)
Then using that logic, one has to assume that Paul was lording it over the weaker members? Can’t you see the contradiction? Paul, himself, was a part of the authority. He sent many letters of correction. Was Paul’s ‘Church’ causing a division? :hmmm:

Paul received instruction from Peter when he visited Jerusalem

I know this is not to me but I have a question. As you think it’s the Bible plus sacred tradition (unless I’m mistaken) and often those verses on tradition are posted to show how important tradition is, how come when I’ve posted other verses about traditions which caution us about traditions do those verse get ignored in the discussion about tradition? You see, the CC says their traditions are the correct ones and without mistake. This seems self-serving to me. You see, for me, if the CC would just tell me what they believe and leave it there, I’d be able to study for myself and judge for myself. But when the CC tells me the are correct so believe what I say, I get lost in rhetoric. I then have trouble seeing the difference between the CC and any other religion that makes the same authoritative comments about themselves.

This is precisely why I prefer looking to Jesus only. Three of the disciples had the blessing of being at the trasfiguration where they saw Jesus with Moses and Elijah. They started getting nutty (wanting to build some sort of shrine {my words}) when all they saw was ‘Jesus only’. I think that’s a great lesson for all of us … It’s Jesus only.

I have said the Church is a Church of believers…the Catholic Church is a Church of believers, who accept the authority of the Church as Christ appointed…

Tweetymom, I am reposting my quote below and I’d really appreciate a direct response to my request.

I don’t think it, I know it. Thank you for proving my point and ‘putting on the shoe because it fits perfectly’.

Only the Catholic Church infallibly teaches the fullness of what Christ taught. Thank you for your opinion

TThank you for this great post. And I am with you I perfer looking to Jesus only too. There are too many laws of do and don’t in the CC that are not in the Bible I am lost too and I go to CC. How is MIL?

LOL. Don’t freak out. I feel your pain, as a Catholic that posts in a lot of protestant forums.

It comes down to one word: PRIDE. You see, if the Catholic is right, then that opens up the possibility that Catholicism is right. And if Catholicism is right (which it is) then protestants can no longer be their own ultimate authority in Bible interpretation: They would have to humble themselves and submit to an authority higher than themselves, and they could never bring themselves to do that, because of PRIDE.

But in fairness, I don’t think the vehement anti-Catholic protestants you find online in forums represent the average day-to-day protestant who just goes to work and comes home every day. Online protestants are often a hateful breed, but a minority I think.

Billy Graham was cool with the Pope:

If you notice the pope is bowing before Billy Graham 😃

Dokimas, surely you can see that Christ corrected traditions that came from a misinterpretation as compared to the traditions that the Apostles taught us to hold to, whether by word or epistle? Either one can see the difference or they are saying the Bible has contradictions in it.

The Catholic Church didn’t tell me what I had to believe, I chose what to believe, based on the scriptures I have provided, and many more.

The Church has the keys to the kingdom of heaven, the authority to bind and loose on earth with a promise it would be made so in heaven and the authority to forgive and retain sins. Do whatsoever they tell you, but do not do as fallible men do…God can protect His truth. At every Mass, there is a reading from the Old Testament, New Testament and the Gospels. We receive the truth from His Church.

Either one can see the difference or they are saying the Bible has contradictions in it. No contradictions at all in the Bible. I am saying there have been misinterpretations for 2000 yrs. I believe when it’s all said and done, God and Him alone will have to sort it all out.

The Catholic Church didn’t tell me what I had to believe, I chose what to believe, based on the scriptures I have provided, and many more. Some on this board have told Tweetymom that she can’t call herself a catholic because she does believe exactly what the CC teaches. She’s been told she can’t be a catholic.

The Pope is sitting and his health was beginning to fail him. Is it of Christian charity to make fun of someone like that?

As for Billy Graham, I have the utmost respect for him and believe he was truly a child of God.

There are many questions that I’ve responded too, using scriptures to support my view. You have chosen not to respond directly to any of my questions or points raised. It’s really sad to see you decided to take the avenue you have with the post I’ve quoted. 😦

I believe Jericho is trying to interject a bit of humor. I doubt if the post was meant to be seriously taken.

But where does the Bible give itself to be the ‘only’ authority?

**1Ti 3:15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

Eph 3:10 That the manifold wisdom of God may be made known to the principalities and powers in heavenly places through the church**
The bible is called the word of God therefore it is the authority. You don’t need any other explanition. Nothing else is equal to God or His word.

The truth of God should be found in the church the body of believers. We worship God in Spirit and truth. You believe the church is an organization that is truth. I believe it should reflect God’s truth.

Yes I must confess I could not resist temptation it was an attempt at humor 🙂 No offense intended.
