I started this tread onece and said something that i did not like and told the moderator to delete what I had said. I think he deleted the whole post.

but anyway I thought it was just geting good. If you like could we start over. What is a sin unto death?

1 Jn 5:16-17, it says, “If anyone sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, he should pray to God and he will give him life. This is only for those whose sin is not deadly. There is such a thing as deadly sin; I do not say that one should pray about that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not deadly.”

Catholics have a name for these sins, mortal and venial. This verse clearly points out that all sin is not equal yet many Christians are taught differently. All sin is wrong and disappoints God but clearly some sins, left unconfessed, will get you to Hell and some will not. According to Roman Catholic doctrine, a mortal sin produces a stain on the soul, and a person who dies in a state of mortal sin, i.e., without having repented, has thereby chosen or merited eternal separation from God in Hell.

again how do you guy interprit this?

it would be nice if the moderator could re post the last one but if not im sure it will be just as good.

The sin unto death is denial of any member of the Trinity or Direct, conscious rebellion against God.

IOW anything you do or believe that clearly means:

“There is no God”
or
“There is a God, but I refuse to attempt to follow any God.”

Believing either of the above makes it impossible for you to repent. You cannot feel sorry for offending a God you don’t believe in. In the second one you are not repentant of your sin if you do it in outright defiance. If you have no repentance you are committing ‘sin unto death’.

Committing sin itself though is not necessarily done in outright defiance so we cannot divide sins into lists like saying lying is not as bad as murder… instead it depends entirely on the motives in the heart of the sinner. A particular lie might be ‘sin unto death’ and it might not.

(BTW, I never did read the original thread)

I’ve heard it said, with regard to “blasphemy against the Spirit”, that the true unforgiveable sin is despair of God’s mercy.

Food for thought.

Peace,
Dante
