Please name the Number One thing you think is the hardest to believe about Catholicism. Thanks.

 That they held all this awesome history of the Fathers of the church and they let me,little old Baptist, Now Home for last 61/2 years read. All this wisdom I didn’t even know was there was held here. SHOCKING:byzsoc:

For me, I respectfully say…

The Priesthood’s “authority” <— I use the word lightly because I have NO problem with Priests, Bishops, the Pope etc…but how they decide what’s valid or not…ie marriages, communion, confession etc. And not so much calling a Priest “Father”, but calling the Pope “Holy Father”.

I believe in authority, no doubt. And I think that Pope John Paul II was one of the best represenatives of Christianity ever ( I don’t know too much about Pope Benidict) I just don’t agree with the “Rome has spoken, no more questions” perspective I see SOMETIMES…not all the time.

I have nothing against Catholics, and I’d go as far as to say that I’m probably as close to Catholic as I can get without actually going to RCIA and converting. 99.3% Catholic…if that’s possible:D

The way they dictate sexuality between a husband and wife. How they consider birth control sinning. Everything is about the embryo and not the person who is living. :twocents:

: that it allows Protestants to participate in the Mass
So should Protestants be turned away at the door?

I’ve been to 3 Masses in my life…2 of them were absolutely beautiful and I felt very welcome. I didn’t not participate in the Eucharist, out of respect for Catholic beliefs, but I sat in a pew and worshipped and prayed with the congregation, and it was wonderful. Should I not have been allowed to do so?

The embryo is also a ‘‘person who is living’’. Out of sight out of mind eh?

The embryo has to be born to be a “person” who is alive. Not out of sight/out of mind. Out of logic/out of mind, eh?

I think it has been covered in a post above, but the idea that a “priest” is needed to act on my behalf before God. The idea of requireing the “ministry” of another on my behalf is most difficult.

My belief is that Jesus didn’t come to switch one set of rites and ordinances for another set…nor to establish a “new priesthood” in lieu of an “older priesthood”…but to establish an understanding and act on our behalf that removed any need for a “priest” to act on our behalf…we each share in the “priesthood of all believers”, we each have direct and unfettered access to God with no need of rite and or ceremonies to “get God’s attention”…but to establish a New People of God regenerated by His Spirit with Christ and Christ alone as mediator…our Immanuel, “God with Us”, who in Himself is our completeness.

That I would need the ministry of a “priest” on my behalf to “confect the sacraments” which would “dispence grace” by my participation in these rites and ceremonies is “difficult” at best for me to believe. I have a Priest who has completed all requirements on my behalf…no sinful human could take His place…we now live in His Presence receiving His Baptism and living in Communion with Him now…without the aid or requirement of any other “priest” to act on our behalf.

Whos says this? You? What exactly is the biological difference inside the womb as compared to out?

I am not the only one who came up with the concept that an embryo is not a person until it is born. So yes me and many others. Contraception is not abortion. It is to prevent an embryo from forming/being developed. The biological difference is a person can breathe air. The embryo is in amniotic fluid. But the Catholics see sex as nothing more than to create life. So yes I find it odd.

The mission of the Church is the salvation of the entire human family. That mission includes not just Catholics or even just non-Catholic baptised Christians, but every human being.

You are of course welcome at Catholic mass and I would encourge you to attend in the future and participate in the way that you have previously. Also in some parishes, you may also, if you wish, walk in the communion line to receive a blessing rather than the eucharist. When you approach the priest cross your arms over your chest to let the priest know you are asking for a blessing rather than to receive the eucharist. Ask someone, perhaps an user, before mass if the particular parish allows that.

Just because something’s odd, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t happen.👍

but don’t you need this priest to get married? to be baptised?🤷

To contribute to the thread, am a Catholic and the thing that i’d really find “odd” from a non-Catholic perspective is the “confession” and yes i used to think : i confess to God , why should i need a priest?..i didn’t understand the importance until i went to confession…confession, no matter how explained in words, will not be understood unless experienced.

Humility is to accept the orders of the church established by Christ. If no church is needed and no rules are to be put,and everyone can put his own rules and open his own church , i think it’d be better if Jesus appeared to each and every Christian to “correct” him but we all know this is not the case because Jesus established a church, full of saints and sinners, but guided by Him and we must obey in order to strive, all of us, hand in hand, to be His…

so a preemie is less of a person than a full term baby?

lol:rolleyes:

interesting logic…

did you read this before you posted it?

I didn’t say a pre-mature baby (“Preemie” how cute) is less of a person that a full term. If they can breathe air, I guess they would be a person.

Yes. Sorry you are not able to get the logic. Did you read my post before you questioned it?
