Protestants: What is the oddest thing about Catholicism?

People who are so mentally unstable as to hate their children are not acting like adults.

Sex is for adults.

It is also for procreation, that fact is inescapeable.

Also, the Church didn’t ‘‘say’’ it. The Lord God Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth commanded it. Who are you to argue with His wisdom, His ruling?
Be fruitful and multiply is NOT a commandment.

You could not like something and be mentally stable. Wow… that was a bit of a jump. People can have sex minus the children.
To hate your children for existing is not the mark of a sane person.

What is the woman’s place in the Catholic church? To procreate with her husband or be celibate with him if she chooses not to have children. Or they can become nuns. Might as well since the Catholic Church wants to be in the bedroom. I find this concept odd.
Faith of the Feminine
The Gospels continued on this trajectory. They depicted God taking flesh in the womb of a woman, a woman who was free to accept or reject her role as the mother of Jesus. Gospel accounts find Jesus entrusting women with profound theological insights, performing miracles at their request, and finding solace in their support during his Passion, after most of his male followers had fled. Although Christians themselves often have failed to live up to Jesus’ example regarding women, Gerl-Falkovitz said, feminism is an outgrowth of Christian ideas about women’s equal dignity: “Only in Judeo-Christian culture sprang up this humanization of women.”
Most feminist leaders today show little interest in the religious roots of the struggle for women’s equality or in understanding why far more American women identify as Christians than as feminists. Aside from occasional stunts designed to demonstrate religious support for their agenda — such as the recent “blessing” of an abortion clinic in Schenectady, N.Y., by a handful of pro-choice clergy — feminist leaders mostly regard Christianity, and especially Catholicism, as an obstacle to women’s liberation.
On the world stage, the Church defends the dignity of women in cultures where religious persecution, honor killings, genital mutilation, and forced marriages are daily realities. Such realities are ignored by many Western feminists whose fixation on abortion rights and reluctance to criticize any culture but their own have relegated them to the sidelines of these battles.
For these women and so many others they represent, Christianity is not the enemy. Faith and freedom go together, and faith leads the way.
this is a quote from an article on women’s congress that was held in rome for the 20th anniversary of mulieris dignitatem (JPII’s letter on the dignity of women)

you might want to read a little about this before you continue bashing the church for how you think she thinks about women. the article has links to the letter and googling “dignity of women” will give you a better insight on these topics.

We know they CAN, but didn’t you miss the last point (and most important one) of LDNCatholic’s post?

You got that right, we are responsible and concerned about not only our spiritual welfare but yours as well, and please don’t act all innocent, I read all of your posts yesterday, you defended your position of ABC all day long until one poster pointed out something to you that you said you’d think about. You also said you were Baptized Catholic but that you weren’t praticing your faith but that you do pratice artificial birth control. hummm, seems to be a connection there.
I am not Catholic because of a hideous decision my mother made on my behalf. I take pills for my PCOS. If you want to judge me for it. I don’t care.

Any independent sources other than Catholics condeming it?
A LOT of Protestants and Moselms “get” this. It wasn’t until 1930 that ANY Christian group considered contraception to be anything other than a grave sin against marriage and human life.

Right… And the tv commercials also say the pill can clear up your complexion. How wonderful. Your skin will be beautiful, while your soul acquires another form of acne.

.

I don’t think any one (not that I’ve read at least) judges you for taking the pills.

If anything, YOU are judging you for taking the pills.😛

As a matter of fact, and some one will correct me if I’m wrong, it’s not considered ‘sinful’ for you to take the pill for a medical reason, and the result of that medical reason and you taking the pill means that you aren’t having kids.

Now… we do have a problem with the fetuses (fetii?) that are aborted, that’s another issue… but the taking of the pill? That’s not the problem.👍

Perhaps you and your husband could use ANOTHER method (NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING) to prevent pregnancy while you are taking the pills. Then, you wouldn’t have to worry about any babies that are being discarded (what a simple word for such a heineous thing) and you can maintain your health.

But still, there have been no posts I’ve seen that ‘judged’ you. We are discussing a choice, and the reasons why the church has stated the choice is not a good one. 😊

There are many threads on these pages on Natural Family Planning, and why Artificial Birth Control is not a good thing.

I realize that your answer to the question is your answer, and I can understand how you can see it as ‘odd’ that the church says ‘NO’ to ABC, but rather than discuss just that here, and rather than you not being as informed as possible, I suggest that this portion of this discussion move to a more appropriate venue. 🙂

Besides, we all need to learn a bit more about these things, don’t we?🤷

This was answered as I mentioned, once a baby leaves the womb, they are considered a person.
Peter Singer thinks that certain animals should be considered “persons” but that human beings with some kind of brain damage or without societal development are not persons.

If you don’t want them and resent the fact of having them because some church said you must. It is not.
Once again-the Church did not say it. God commanded it. You did not read my post in full.

So why is it that a person can be charged with double murder if he kills a pregnate woman?
That is a law that comes from the same place that clincal abortion is approved. That is also because the person who was attacked had their choice taken away:D

No one will judge you here, we are informing you, if you feel judged it must be your conscience finally kicking in. That’s a good thing. There are other options for your PCOS, and imagine that some people were lied to about their symptoms and put on ABC just to not have to investigate other options, there are many, many factual stories about things along that line at responsible sources. That is why I and others keep providing you with other sites to investigate. I think that your Mother loves you very much and wanted you to be in the family of God. You seem to be rebelling like a child. Please don’t do that, get over your “issues”, get help for them and come home to the Church and live your life truly liberated and within God’s commands. It was God who told the first man and woman to be fruitful and multiply, not the Catholic Church, the Catholic Church still hands on His teachings.

If it is abstinence not really.
Well, Abstinence is THE best way to prevent pregnancy, but no, there are several methods known as ‘Natural Family Planning’. There are married couples that have LOTS of sex with each other, but they don’t make babies when they aren’t ready to do so.

Please do look into the threads that discuss these methods.😊

I find it odd that non-Catholics, and uninformed Catholics, think that the Catholic church, who strongly opposes ABC, would tell any one ‘don’t have sex with your spouse’. As a matter of fact, the Catholic church has issues with people getting married that aren’t able to ‘consumate’ the marriage. C’mon… sex is a wonderful thing and a key element of a marriage!👍

Right… And the tv commercials also say the pill can clear up your complexion. How wonderful. Your skin will be beautiful, while your soul acquires another form of acne.

.
I take them for MEDICINAL PURPOSES. Not because my skin will be pretty… Who are you to judge my soul???
