The unforgivable sin IS Blasphemy. It becomes Blasphemy towards the Holy Spirit **when one judges **the operation of God as evil and takes it as his deity to persecute it.
Jesus refers to sin and Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit as **unforgivable sin, **the attribute of deity, irreverance toward something considered Sacred. Luke 12:10
but if you consider the blashphemy dealt with in the passage - St. Matthew 12:32… it is rejection of Christ, knowing that He is the truth… (they saw his miracles, & attributed them to the devil, publicly)… They knew that it was God doing those miracles… that God does not answer the prayer of a demonic person (they tried to get people to believe Jesus was of the devil…).

Sy, in my above post Jesus actually says that it is Blasphemy. Read Luke.
it is the Holy Spirit that leads us to truth - and holiness… To wnat to do our own thing because it “costs too much” to be holy… & we don’t wnat to give up our position in the world… which is what is going on in St. Matthew 12:32… i belive this is the true definition of the unforgivable sin…

i know what it is but wanted to hear your views…

Please don’t just say it is blashphemy of the Holy Spirit. We already know that (St. Matthew 12:32…)… Please explain what this means, exactly. Thanks.
Simply put it means to give credit to satan for works done by the Holy Spirit. Just like when the Pharisees stated that Christ performed his works through satan. Christ rightly responds a house divided against itself will fall.

To be honest, I never knew their was a sin that couldn’t be forgiven.
technically there isn’t… but once a person has deliberately defied God (truth)… & gone his own way, it is likely he is sold out to the devil & it is very difficult, almost impossible (?) for him to evne desire to repent… But if he does… he can be saved…

To refuse to repent is the unforgivable sin & Jesus warned us of the dangers of that… in this passage (Mt 12:32).

If you don’t repent, you will have the stain of your sins on your soul & no unclean thing will enter Heaven… or as some Bibles say it, “no impure thing will etner Heavne…” Even Purgatory cannot do any good because the person rejected Christ… Purgatory is for Christians… to perfect what they neglected to perfect on Earth…

Jesus was speaking of this sin in this context but that doesn’t mean that the exact thing the Pharisees did was what was unforgivable… I believe he was focusing on what was behind that… their rejection of him, knowing that he was/is the truth… they chose the world over him… and he knew how dangerous that was, so he warned them that they could be giong to Hell (if they don’t repent of it)…

I was using the Pharisees as an example of crediting satan with works of the Spirit. Otherwise I agree with you 100%. But the bottom line is blasphemy against the Spirit is as I stated.

So wisdomseeker, are you saying that should a Protestant say and believe these things, but then seek reconcilliation through the sacraments of confession and penance through the Catholic Church, it would be to no avail?
i think this has already been answered here. but i will explain it.
what i am trying to say is that what they are saying to the CC is the same as what the pharisees said to Jesus in Mat 12.

if the CC is the Church of Christ and is led by the HS and someone refuse and rejects her, is it not the same as what the pharisees did to Jesus?

i feel we all blashpheme the spirit whenever we sin… when we neglect to do things… that God puts it in our head/heart to do… but the ULTIMATE blashphemy, the unforgivable sin is to totally reject Christ… & forgiveness… to the end of one’s life…

I agree with this explanation of the unpardonable sin by Billy Graham:

"What is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit? I believe that blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is when we reject the Spirit of God. We reject Christ over a period of time until our hearts become so hardened that we no longer know good from evil. The Bible says that “God gave them [up] to a reprobate mind” [Romans 1:28]. Three times in Romans, the 1st chapter, Paul says that God gave them up [see verses 24,26,28]. God said concerning Ephraim, “Ephraim is joined to [his] idols: let him alone” [Hosea 4:17].

Oh, you will live out your life. You will live, maybe a successful life, for a short time. But may God have mercy upon the men that God has left alone. Your heart becomes so hard and it becomes so callous–until you no longer know the difference between good and evil. You begin to ascribe to the devil even the works of God.

So the unpardonable sin is not a specific sin. The unpardonable sin is an attitude of the heart. It is an attitude of resistance and rejection of Christ. It is a final rejection of the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior."

thank you for that… I always liked billy Graham… he used to be somewhat anti-Catholic but now he is not…

Something really weird, though… i was going to read a book about him but the 2 i found in the library… Niether one of them , when i looked in the index, had one thing about the Catholic Church in it them… ! I lost interest then… thought that was just TOO weird…

I think nowadays, the unforgivable sin is to be an enthused Catholic… 😃

To blaspheme against the Holy Spirit would be to use language such as the “railing” that occured in Matt. 15:19 or Mark 7:22, Eph 4:31, Col. 3:8, 1 Tim. 6:4, Jude 9. It is mostly a defamation toward the Holy Spirit. As given in the New Strong’s Dictionary.
But another ( I think that goes with it ) is the act of never accepting Christ into your life which is a sure invitation to satan’s world. And/or if you have had God in your life and would turn against him and never invite him back into your life. This too sends you to satans world.
Thanks

in the passage where Jesus mentions this sin, the crowd is saying satan did the miracles… so i wonder if the unforgivable sin also involves… attributing evil to God… and doing so until death… (?)

when the Pharisees attributed to the devil the works of the Holy Spirit… (St. Matthew 12:32) i believe it was the sin behind this sin that was the real problem. To do such a thing is to show that one has already made one’s choice to live for the things of this world (the devil) and not for Crhist… Jesus was warning them not to go to their graves with that sin… because they would not be forgiven of it in ***Purgatory… ***(“forgiven… in the age to come”).

I’m not sure I follow…but in a word…“no”. For something to be “unforgiveable”…it’s just that…'unforgiveable"…to reject the Catholic church as an organization is not the same as rejecting Christ in His very person…but then if I believed it was…I’d be Catholic…perhaps we are speaking past one another.

objectively speaking, to reject Christ’s Church is to reject Him…
