Protestants: What weight do you give to the "Apocrypha"?

The Dead Sea Scrolls prove that the “Apocrypha” or Deuterocanonical books were written in Hebrew during the time of Christ and there are parts of Judaism that do recognize these other books as inspired.

The Septuagint was the Old Testament written Greek, centuries before the birth of Christ. Paul would have know this Old Testament books, including ‘apocrypha’, as well.

How did I miss this post? I have been following this thread.

GENTILE books!! The Deuterocanonical books were produced by JEWS. Greek-speaking Jews, but Jews nonetheless. I can’t believe you said that.

The Deuterocanonicals are NOT in the New Testament. What are you thinking?
 
I find 1 and 2 Maccabees to be important and reliable historical documents.

Yes, I read them. I think they give good information about Jewish life and thought, and some of the sciptures are beautiful. All in all, we discover more of the culture in which Jesus grew up.

These are important books, lovely and informative, and good for Christians to read. But they are not a part of the biblical canon.
