Oh, no, it is not a beginning. You did not think they existed BEFORE The discussion started. Yes, the Sacred Teachings were introduced into the discussion by Catholics who recieve the commandment in 2 Thess. 2:15. They have no substance FOR YOU because you reject this commandment. You cannot see how these Teachings tell Catholics anything because you cannot see that they exist!
Since you think i’m rejecting a commandment in 2 Thess 2:15 then what exactly were the traditions that Paul was referring to in 2 Thess 2:15?
Of course you believe this way, since you started out with the foundation that no Divine Revelation outside scripture exists. How could you end up with any other conclusion?
Are you telling me that the catholic church has Divine Revelation outside of Scripure?

This is a good example of my point. You have already made up your mind that the Sacred Tradition is not what the Apostles taught. For those of us that accept the commandment, this is an absurd notion. We know that the Sacred Writing and the Sacred Oral Teachings originate from the same Apostolic source.
How can this be since the apostles themselves never taught many of the catholic doctrines that you have today?

The question is, where does it say in the Bible Bible is the sole source of Revelation?

We are not talking about traditions of men, Catholic Church Teachings, etc. Please so thread title. 🙂

Start another thread on CC Teachings if that is what you want to discuss.

Before i can answer this we must understand what Revelation is and how do we know it.
Would you agree that the scriptures have their source in revelation?

Immaculate conception, assumed into heaven and queen of heaven.
I can answer all three very adequately, but they all probably deserve their own thread. BTW, each one isn’t mentioned explicitly, but they ALL are implied. Just like the word Trinity.

I believe it would be more accurate to say that Scripture was written by God. Humans compiled it under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. God uses Scripture (not alone) to Reveal Himself to us.

The problem with using “implicit” arguments from scripture is that you just about making any claim with them. Saying the marian doctrines are on the same level as the trinitarian doctrines for scriptural support doesn’t come even close in comparison.

Its important because catholics use this as a defense for their belief in the doctrines of the catholic church.
Defense? We’re not doing anything wrong.

Let’s go back to the topic of this thread: Where in the bible does it say that the bible is the sole rule of faith?

Little Mary;2801814]Defense? We’re not doing anything wrong.
Defense has to do with giving reasons for your beliefs.
Let’s go back to the topic of this thread: Where in the bible does it say that the bible is the sole rule of faith?
It doesn’t. However it alone is inspired-inerrant.

Well, let’s see, it was over 2,000 years ago…and most of us weren’t there to see them… The authors of the books of the bible for some reason chose not to document them, but they felt it was important to note that they did happen. Maybe they felt like they already had a good sampling documented and left the rest.

Why is this important?
Precisely…

It’s important because someone mentioned that not everything was written in the bible and that is why you can’t soley rely on it as final authority. Then they provided that verse.

But how can you use this as an argument when you can’t tell me what orally has been passed down pertaining to the miracles Christ performed that weren’t written down.

Catholics need to stop using this argument because it just don’t work!

The topic of this thread is Where is the Bible in the Bible. You are derailing this thread. Please start another with this question. Thank you.
I am not derailing the thread… just because you don’t wanna answer the question, perhaps because you don’t know the answer and you don’t wanna admit it, doesn’t mean it is off topic. I was making a point that pertains to this thread quite accurately.

okay to reword the thread topic question… since no one is biting with the Bible in the Bible part.

Why did Jesus have 12 apostles? When only a handful contributed to the New Testament. Why would Jesus not just have a scribe write everything down that he says and does, if all he wanted was a book as authority and not people?

Seems to me that if Christ intended the Bible to be the sole authority separate from Tradition then we would have heard something about it from him.

What do you guys think?

Where does it say it isn’t?
Dear Singin,

It doesn’t say it (bible isn’t) I am unsure of your argument. Are you saying the Bible is the sole source of Revelation? Or are you saying that because the Bible doesn’t say it, therefore it is?

I also sing in choir (if that is what you are singin’ about). The question of the thread is where does it say in the Bible that the Bible is.

Thank you

Hello,

Sorry for the long delay. Now that I am back at the University, my time is quickly eaten up by my studies. I don’t have the time to go through the whole thread, so I’ll just jump in where we are.

Good to see that the original topic isn’t completely out of view.

Good questions. Why did Jesus appoint a select group (among all his many disciples - at least 120) of 12 Apostles? If the written testimony is the only source of revelation, why do we not have at least 12 Gospels - one from each Apostle? Why did Jesus not once command anyone to write anything down?
