I’ll take your word for it. Thanks. The Catholic Church recognizes the Orthodox sacraments and Holy Orders as valid, and a Catholic may be dispensed to receive them.

Will WELS allow Byzantine or Marianite Catholics to receive Communion? In the eyes of the Catholic church, it will never teach heresy regardless of what it teaches. This certainly isn’t the case in the eyes of others. Take for example the WELS Lutherans. They would not permit a Roman Catholic to receive communion in their church.

John 20:30 - “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of (his) disciples that are not written in this book.”Take your Bible and go through every verse in the NT and you will not find any verse that supports the idea that Mary was assumed. This was never taught by the apostles.
I love how protestants ignore this passage.John 20:30 - “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of (his) disciples that are not written in this book.”
I’m trying to find the post by someone who posted about there being no relics of Mary, which would support the Assumption. Have you seen it? Was it you?I love how protestants ignore this passage.
Take your bible and go through every verse in the NT and you will not find any verse where Jesus says “Now you’d better write this down because Sola Scriptura is the only way you’ll ever get to heaven”.
Nope, Jesus never said that.
No that wasn’t me.I’m trying to find the post by someone who posted about there being no relics of Mary, which would support the Assumption. Have you seen it? Was it you?![]()
lol, I agree with you, but unfortunately I think this sort of topic is what this forum is here for. On the flip-side though, I think a lot of us, myself included, get a little less than courteous in these discussions.Well itterated, my catholic brother! Apostloic succession also is a concept that is of optimal value here. Suffice to say that all members of churches that derrived after Luther’s descent have lost this concept, as they are PROTESTANT to our original church. I for one do not fault them for it, for it was tought to them for the last 500+ years. We all have salvation through the blood of Christ by way of baptism and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps this subject is exausted, and we should all concentrate on our common beliefs. We are all brothers and sisters in Him after all, aren’t we? AND ON EARTH PEACE TO MEN OF GOOD WILL
Signs JESUS did in the presence of HIS disciples… Jesus was born, lived among men, died, rose again (AMEN!), and then ascended to Heaven where He resides until He comes again. So unless Mary passed away before He ascended He would not have done that in front of His disciples so no, this could not have been one of the ‘signs’ the book of John was speaking about…John 20:30 - “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of (his) disciples that are not written in this book.”
I wonder if the Assumption of Our Lady could be one of those signs?
Sounds to me like you are limiting Jesus to time and space. You don’t think God could have done that if he wanted? He couldn’t have done it after the Ascension? Possibly some Disciples were living when Mary died. Jesus had already ascended, yes, but anything is possible with God, therefore, He could have had His mother assumed into Heaven in the presence of some of His Disciples. Again, maybe this was one of those things not written down.Signs JESUS did in the presence of HIS disciples… Jesus was born, lived among men, died, rose again (AMEN!), and then ascended to Heaven where He resides until He comes again. So, what ARE the signs passed down orally that are not written in the book of John?
Are you just wanting some examples of Tradition with this question? If so, here are some things that come to mind:So, what ARE the signs passed down orally that are not written in the book of John?
I think some of our sola scriptura protestants do have a tendency to forget this…The word of God is Jesus Christ, not the bible.
John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Not exactly… The verse specifically says that there were signs that Jesus did that were not written down. What were those signs? Are you just wanting some examples of Tradition with this question? If so, here are some things that come to mind:
- The Bible
- Real Presence
- All Male Priesthood
- Infant Baptism
- Purgatory
- Assumption
- Immaculate Conception
- the name of the lady(Veronica) that gave Jesus a cloth to wipe His face when He was carrying His cross.
Oh my Lord! I have no idea. Maybe the Church does, but I don’t. Sorry to dissapoint. Maybe someone else here knows. Not exactly… The verse specifically says that there were signs that Jesus did that were not written down. What were those signs?
I really do think that you would have eye witness accounts of something that spectacular if it happened. Look at the prophet Elija (or was it Elisha? I always get them mixed up!)… He was assumed to Heaven and we have that in the bible. She isn’t GOD’s mother, she is Jesus’ mother. And even though Jesus IS God we still have to make the distinction because she did NOT give birth to God the Father. And unless you think God plays favorites, He loves all His children the same. Why not assume Abraham, the Father of the Jewish Nation? Or Moses? Or any of the other Faithful men and women who chose God over the world?Sounds to me like you are limiting Jesus to time and space. Uh, oh. We have some problems here…She isn’t GOD’s mother, she is Jesus’ mother. And even though Jesus IS God we still have to make the distinction because she did NOT give birth to God the Father.
The church has protected all of these things since the day Jesus made Peter the first Pope. The 12 apostles were the first 12 Catholic priests. They got it all from the horse’s mouth. Not exactly… The verse specifically says that there were signs that Jesus did that were not written down. What were those signs?
Well why even have the Bible then? If we are going to diminish it to this point, it then has no real authority in our worship.I think some of our sola scriptura protestants do have a tendency to forget this…
Well, if that’s your reaction from John 1:1. That’s definitely not the Church’s approach!Well why even have the Bible then? If we are going to diminish it to this point, it then has no real authority in our worship.
Council of Ephesus 431 declared her mother of GOD theotokos It was presided over by St. Cyril of Alexandria representing Pope Celestine I. This council also defined the true personal unity of Christ against Nestorius, Bishop of Constantinople. .Uh, oh. We have some problems here…
Who says we have to make this distinction?
