I already do a lot reading. Why don’t you tell me what the gospel is?
First, we acknowledge that we are all sinners in need of God’s forgiveness.
Secondly, we recognize that only God can save us.
Third is that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for our sins and to bring us to God.
And fourth is that each individual accepts Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior to be saved.

All these four steps are in each and every Mass.

What is your gospel message?

There is a difference between something being interpreted infallibly and interpretations given in the catechism. No doubt individuals in the church have interpreted scriptures but that does not mean its binding on the church forever does it?
I am trying to understand, the Catholic Church has explained LOTS of scripture, but you seem to be hung up on the fact that it hasn’t been done infallibly?

You/your church has infallibly defined every scripture in the bible:confused:

I would concur with what you say here.
Let me ask you about other doctrines the catholic church teaches. The marian doctrines, purgatory and the mass as examples. Are they also part of the gospel and must be believed for salvation?

Does not the church claim to be the only ones to have the authority to interpret the scriptures infallibly? If this is so, then it would follow that to have such authority they would have interpreted the scriptures.
You/your church has infallibly defined every scripture in the bible:confused:
Protestant church don’t claim to possess infallible authority to interpret the scriptures although they do interpret.

If what you say is true, then this would be a false gospel since Paul was totally unaware of the many doctrines in the catholic church. See Galatians 1:8-9. He never taught anything about the marian doctrines for example. That was never a requirement of the gospel he taught.
You don’t know that, ja4. We have a small distillation of what Paul taught in the NT. This thinking you have that if it is not written in your NT it did not happen is just not accurate. Besides that, when these parts of the NT were written, Mary was still alive, so how would he know if Jesus came for her or not?!

Its all we have. Anything else is mere specualtions and its not wise to build doctrines on speculations.

I have yet to see you show otherwise than just general statements. You need facts to show that Paul actually did believe in the marian doctrines and those facts don’t exist. Thats just the way it is.

How do you know she was still alive when the NT was written? Is it not true that your church admits it does not when she died or where?

You already do a lot of reading? Then you must know the Gospel is the Good News! It is found in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Paul is not a Gospel writer. He spread the Good News, along with the 12 Apostles. There are other writers in the New Testament as well: James, Peter, John.

You don’t really seem to be too interested in learning anything here. You just keep attacking. We are learning a lot about you, and your attack methods. You are training us well to defend our faith.

Thank you, and may God bless you :highprayer:

What is the content of the gospel in the catholic church? What must a catholic believe to be saved?

The contentS of the GospelS are found in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, so says the Catholic Christian Church.

What must I DO to be saved? JESUS SAVES. 🙂

How do you know that the canon of the Bible is not speculation, since it does not contain it’s own table of contents?

Peace be with you, my brother. Now that you know this, is there any further need for you to be on the forum?

Paul’s letter to the Galatians was one of the earliest books. It was also very focused on particular subjects. Clearly Paul never expected to run into someone with your intractible attitude toward apostolic teaching, or he would have written more books!

Because they had some criteria they used.

More likely that it was unknown.

My infallible source is Apostolic Tradition, ie the Magesterium of the Catholic Christian Church, which compiled and preserved Scripture for the some 200 years after the death of Jesus before an official Canon was first ratified. It is the Holy Spirit who infallibly guided the Catholic Church to infallibly give us infallible Scripture.

Scripture and Apostolic Tradition not mutually exclusive.

“The idea of a complete and clear-cut canon of the New Testament existing from the beginning, that is from Apostolic times, has no foundation in history. The Canon of the New Testament, like that of the Old, is the result of a development, of a process at once stimulated by disputes with doubters, both within and without the Church, and retarded by certain obscurities and natural hesitations” New Advent.org.

Scripture is not the final authority then. If Scripture is not the final authority, then pretty much anything goes.

Purgatory is a word uses to encompass the explanation of how we are cleansed with Christ’s saving blood. Do you not believe that you will be cleansed with His blood and made holy before stepping into His presence? Do you think you will sin in heaven? Do you sin now? And what happens to make it possible so not only you won’t sin, but you won’t even be drawn to sin? We believe it is Christ’s blood cleansing us, this process has been called purgatory by the Church. We believe that we are not just declared righteous by His sacrificial blood but actually made completely righteous by His blood.

The marian doctrines all explain who Christ is. Scripture tells us Mary’s soul magnifies the Lord. In other words, looking at Mary, only makes the picture of who Christ is bigger. Or do you disagree with that interpretation of scripture also?

What part of scripture can one not believe and still be saved? That is what I hear from your question. What teaching of the Church, which is the pillar and foundation of truth, can be rejected and not reject Christ?

Your sister in Christ,
Maria

MariaG;2828566]Purgatory is a word uses to encompass the explanation of how we are cleansed with Christ’s saving blood. Do you not believe that you will be cleansed with His blood and made holy before stepping into His presence?
Yes
Do you think you will sin in heaven?
no
Do you sin now?
yes

Our salvation will be complete. One thing is that we will have new bodies that will no longer want to sin. We will be competely new in Christ.
We believe it is Christ’s blood cleansing us, this process has been called purgatory by the Church.
How can fire cleanse a soul? Not even the I Corinthians 3 passage claims this.
We believe that we are not just declared righteous by His sacrificial blood but actually made completely righteous by His blood.

I disagree with this. It may claim to do so but when we look at the specifics of the marian doctrines and compare them with scripture we don’t see this.
Scripture tells us Mary’s soul magnifies the Lord. In other words, looking at Mary, only makes the picture of who Christ is bigger. Or do you disagree with that interpretation of scripture also?
I don’t see how you are making this connection with Mary.

I’m trying to understand what the essentials are of the gospel message is in the catholic church. What are the components that must be believed to be saved in the catholic church?
Your sister in Christ,
Maria

I don’t mean to pry into this but I feel compelled to. I do not agree with any of this. First of all, none of what you said here is included or essential in God’s plan of salvation and second of all, it is not Biblical. You must put scripture first!

Ja4 & Brewmax…Where is this list of “essentials” and “non-essentials” that you two keep referring to? Since you both go by the Bible alone, where are you getting this list of “essentials” and “non-essentials”, this list must be in there somewhere. Who determines this list?

the Bible tells us to hold fast to the traditions
and what is the bible but a collection of written traditions. so how can you say that protestants are not following this advise?

what you need to convince them is why there should be divinely inspired traditions that are outside the bible.

I never said that I go by the Bible alone. I believe that the Bible is the top authority. Other authorities must square with the Bible. The essentials are laid out in Scripture. Nothing else needs to be added. Marian doctrine, further sin cleansing etc. Paul didn’t teach any of this.
