Protestants who accept OSAS: How do you explain these scriptures?

But i guess God does stalk us humans, doesn’t He… in his efforts to get us to Heaven??

Do you believe these folks that were being saved daily along with the Apostles would be subject to falling off God’s radar somewhere along the line? .

No one ever falls off God’s radar… even the souls in Hell…

A Christian who has been “saved” as the Protestants call it, “converted” as the catholics call it… is more aware of the awfulness of sin than an un-converted person… Therefore, there is far less an excuse for them… “To whom more is givne, more is required.”

I know you’re only kidding (probably? ), but incase you ever start to really think that way, just remember there are many that have no earthly hovering mothers… MILs might count

Actually, my mom has earned some hovering rights, as she turned 80 this year. And actually, I’m thankful she is still in my life.

Christianity is pentecostal Christians… I think there are around 2.3 billion of us. We aren’t Catholic. All religions say they are the one true Church.

Also, I don’t believe in once saved, always saved and not many in our church actually do. Unforgiveness will send you to hell, and so will unrepentant sins such as adultery. We still obey God and do our best not to sin, with the holy spirits help. We just don’t believe that God’s grace is dispersed through the sacraments and we believe communion is a memorial of what Christ has already accomplished on the cross. We also believe in speaking in tongues and that the spiritual gifts given to the apostles at pentecost are still around and available to all believers today.

That number is slightly higher than the entire number of Christians on earth which is around ~2.1 billion. Of that number ~1.13 billion are Catholic, ~250 million are Orthodox and the remainder are all of the Protestant denominations (including the non-denominational .)

IIRC Pentecostals started April 14, 1906 at the Azusa Street Revival of the AME in Los Angeles. That fact alone precludes Pentecostals from any claim to being the true Church.

Today, the Gospel reading at Mass was St. Matthew 7:21:

"Not everyone who says Lord Lord will enter the kingdom of Heaven… [Many will say, "Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name and cast out demons in your name… and Jesus says, “Depart from me, i never knew you…”]

Then there is St. Matthew 18:23 which speaks of a person being Totally forgiven of his sins, but who then cannot find it in his heart to forgive his fellow “servant”… he is handed over to the torturers until the once-written-off debt is paid in full (“the last penny”)…

this is speaking of a person who was, as you say, “saved”…

There are others… but i will leave it at that… for now…

The Matthew 7, text calvinists will say the person was never saved in the first place – he was just one of the weeds in the field among the wheat. The Matthew 18 text is proof that the person was never saved because if you have Jesus in your heart you will forgive others.

Both, could be delt with via the **Calvinist Escape Clause, **

as concerns St. Matthew 18:23 wherein the man could not pay his huge debt and asked for mercy… The “master” (God) forgave the entire debt…

The ENTIRE debt…

How much more “saved” can you get??!!??

it’s ironic to me that those who claim to love the Bible more than we Catholics rolleyes: ) would believe something SO unbiblical… They take a few passages out of context & make a whole belief system out of it…

Oh… Right… that is the whole definition of Protestantism…

Then a person who becomes saved and under the doctrine of once saved always saved has to wonder if he is really and truly saved? What about Christians like Jimmy Swaggert, Jim Baker or Jim Jones? You’re saying they were never saved to begin with? What about people those type preachers lead to Christ, are they saved or not? Sounds like people can have no confidence in their salvation. I mean how do you find peace of the Lord if you always have to wonder if you’re really saved to begin with? No one knows what their futures hold.

I have also wondered about this. What happens to the pastor who preaches OSAS then is publicly exposed in some grievous scandal? It would seem that their community wouldn’t even have a mechanism for reconciliation back into the community.

It seems that Americans excuse all kinds of evils… and most Americans are Protestant… Just wanted to make the point that Jesus “built” his Church the wy He did for a reason…
