The Holy Spirit has indeed enlightened my heart, which is why I will never be Roman Catholic, which is the question asked by the OP. as far as nasty and incorrect, I’m sorry you feel that way. I’ve been told that the truth not only sets one free, but hurts as well.

Comparing the Catholic Church to the Mormon religion is not TRUTH just ABSURD, so don’t go blaming the Holy Spirit.

There was Christianity with sects or maybe more accurate…cultures then. The reason I did not agree with the first part is because I do not agree that the Roman Church is THE OHCAC but a part as is Orthodoxy, Lutherans, Anglicans…etc. Those that subscribe to the OHCAC.

So when did the Church crash and burn, i.e., when did the gates of Hell prevail because that is in essence what you are saying when you deny that there is no longer one Church of Christ (with one set of beliefs for all its followers)? Do you think Christ had it all wrong when he said to Peter that the 'gates of hell would not prevail against the Church (this includes heresy or unorthodox teachings) or that Peter’s faith would not fail?

I do not deny there is OHCAC. I deny the Roman Church is THE Church but do not deny that is it part of the Church. I am sorry you disagree and I respect that.

It’s not a matter of subscribing to the doctrine of the Catholic Church, it’s a matter of what Scripture says and plain old logic, i.e., 4 x 1 does not equal 1.

I Galations 3 we read

.26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Notice that Paul did not say that if you are a member of the Roman Church you are a child of God with the fullness of truth. He stated that in Christ we are ALL children of God. We are not seperated brethen, half brothers and sister or even step…we are ALL children of God and through our baptism we have clothed ourselves with Christ.

One of the things that really gets under my skin is the “we have the fullness of truth” saying that flies around here like flies on a watermelon. Christ is the fullness of truth and His Body (ALL believers) live in that truth through Him! Not a Church or temple but THROUGH CHRIST. (not yelling lol)

I know many will say that the Roman Catholic Church is the Church Christ established on earth and I can respect that. As an Episcopalian, I believe I am part of that OHCAC and I do not believe the Roman Catholic Church to be that Church, but rather a part of it as well.

I know my responses were written to a degree in frustration, but the whole point of these threads is to “rock the boat” in a sense, i.e., question the veracity of others’ beliefs (including my own). I have no problem with someone saying that the Catholic Church is not the true Church (prove it), but I do have a problem with someone saying that the ONE Holy Catholic Apostolic Church still exists even though it is composed of different belief systems, this defies logic and scripture.

See this is how these threads always turn out. A poster creates a thread “Why_______” and people respond. The question was…“Protestant, why are you not Catholic” and we answered. Then it turns into My Church is right,your community is wrong…we have the fullness of faith and you do not…Catholic Church worship statues…no we do not…etc.

We go in circles over and over with neither party actually gaining anything but frustration.

Not compelling enough? Perhaps you have access to “other” documents which are more compelling? Funny how as a History major I never came these “other” documents which are more compelling? Proof based on pure silence? Weak to say the least.

Friend, if the Catholic churches claims have depth and meaning for you, if by embracing the tenets of the Catholic church brings you into relationship with God and give meaning to your life, wonderful…it’s claims do not find credibility with me.
