Protestants, why do you protest?

Which Baptist Church? I was a Baptist for almost 40 years and a pastor. Catholics baptism or any infant baptism was rejected. Any form other than full immersion was rejected.

Now inthe 70’s the Baptist Church had many problems and a power struggle between liberals and conservatives. I know many strange doctrines, per conservative baptists, were creeping into the baptist church.

Also, there are about as many types of baptists as there are leaves on a tree.

I joined a Southern Baptist Church.

I also get the impression that many Catholics can’t understand just how odd the Catholic Church can appear to someone raised Protestant, how alien its emphases are from what one takes to be Christianity.

You quote an excellent post that Linda Marie made, but with your leave I’d like to turn it on its head. For someone reared Protestant, with Protestant assumptions, the dilemma, the stakes, and the internal dialogue may sound more like this reversal of one of her passages: “Choosing this Church risks giving God less than wholehearted worship, adoration, and obedience. It says that one will only accept God on that Church’s terms and rejects–or farms out–the guidance of the Holy Spirit.”

There are quite a few good answers Catholics could make (and probably have made) to that hypothetical statement, but I offer it to show you that Protestants aren’t just being dense or willfully blind here. Catholicism isn’t the theological slam-dunk that a cradle Catholic might imagine, and though I mean no offense to the OP, I think he has fallen into the cardinal sin of apologetics–underrating the strength, the sincerity, or the good faith of the other side’s arguments. It’s a common error among Protestants, as well.

only the RCC claims to have clergy that speak in the place of God in an inspired sinless way.
Please show me the denomination/church that admits their beliefs are in error. EVERY church/denomination believes their beliefs are 100% correct, or they would change them.

"Since you have claimed some teachings are un-biblical, could you please expound on them? "

I have in other threads, I suggest a search on my ID.
Answers I have received have included such things as “its tradition” “its implicit in the passage”. I especially loved that one to prove one particular dogma. I can say anything is “implicit in the passage”.

very weak answers when Protestants want to see scripture and not the musings of men.
I hold my own pastor to the same standard.
You’re a pretty rude person.

And I particularly don’t care to search through all your posts to find your thoughts. You brought up the topic, I asked for you to expound, you refuse. I don’t care to go to that much trouble for such a nasty person.

I joined a Southern Baptist Church.
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I was a SBC pastor, born into the SBC. My Grandfather was a SBC pastor for approx 60 years, Uncles who were SBC pastors and several friends who still are SBC pastors. Trained at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. I have never heard of an SBC church accepting a Catholic Baptism. Nothing less than a full “dunking” under the water. For a SBC church, you must confess Christ then be baptised, anything prior to confession of faith is not sufficient.

If we were to go to the grave of Adrian Rodgers, we would all hear a high pitch whine as Adrian Rodgers spins in his grave.

You can not be a member of the SBC without full immersion baptism, per the Southern Baptist Convention and the Baptist Faith and Message. All I can say is wow, you have to be the only person I know of who left any infant baptism church and joined the SBC and did not have to be re-baptized. Or as a SBC baptist would say, “baptized as the first one did not count.”

I will admit the SBC had many “problems” in the 70’s that ended with Adrian Rodgers and other fundamentalists taking over the Convention. Causing most liberal and many moderates to leave. As you went into the SBC during this time, I can see how you slipped by, as a conservative will tell you. The SBC prides itself on being from the anabaptist tradition…the rebaptizers who rejected catholic baptism. Again wow, can’t see how that was missed.

As a baptist pastor I would have rebaptized you. As an anglican, no anabaptism.
