You’re not alone.Maybe it’s because I’m a guy, but it doesn’t seem like that drastic of a change to me.![]()
Good. Thanks for keeping me company. You’re not alone.
Hahahaha I have to say I am making you company too. I didn’t grow up in the US so I had no idea what a princess was little less Disney and same here, Disney managed to make my daughter a Disney fan without me even knowing it!!!Good. Thanks for keeping me company.
Incidentally, it is only because I have a young daughter that I know more about Disney Princesses than any grown many should know. She sniffs them out at any store we go to. (“Look, it’s Disney Princess playing cards!” “Look, it’s a Disney Princess tent!” "Look, it’s a Disney Princess cheese grater!
)
It doesn’t matter what it is, if it’s got a princess on it, she wants it. And this was all before she ever even saw any movie with a Disney Princess in it. Oh, Disney, you do your job so well. You managed to make my daughter familiar with all your princesses without me even knowing how.![]()
False. Belle and Mulan are the best.I love Disney Princesses. I am 24 years old and I still watch those movies. I feel like there are more important issues out there than protesting how Disney designs their toys. It isn’t going to stop me from liking the movies. It isn’t going to stop me from thinking that Snow White is the BEST princess and Merida will never compare to her. EVER.![]()
It is bizarre. I’m still trying to figure out how they did it. The same thing happened with my niece. When she wasn’t even yet 3, she was pointing out who “Aurora” was and my brother didn’t even know she had a name beyond “Sleeping Beauty.”Hahahaha I have to say I am making you company too. How “all-encompassing” is this redesign anyway? My daughter has lots of different Rapunzel stuff. In some of it, she looks just like she did in the movie. In some of it, she is a cartoon like the other princesses. In some, her dress is made to be much more fancy. In some she’s holding her artist’s tools. In others a hair brush.False. Belle and Mulan are the best.
Also (being male) I don’t care about the redesign too much, but they could at least of let her keep her bow! Merida without her bow would be like Katnip without her bow
Wait, frying pans are cooking utensils? I thought they were weapons that people repurposed for cooking. Just because they have this one revamped image, I find it hard to believe that this is somehow the only image they are ever going to use from here on out.
It’s not like we only see Belle with a book or Tiana with a cooking utensil or Mulan with a sword. There are all sorts of different pictures and poses.
Gosh, I’m getting way too into this thread.![]()

I don’t think that’s true. The branding of the original character was firmly established. Any girl watching the movie and seeing the new look would be instantly confused. “But mom. That’s not how she’s supposed to look like.”Maybe it’s because I’m a guy, but it doesn’t seem like that drastic of a change to me.
I can understand their concerns, but it seems likely to me that it’s just Disney trying to establish a certain amount of visual consistency with their “Disney Princess” branding. They had to do that to some extent with Rapunzel, too, as she was also a computer-animated character that wore more of an “everyday” dress in the movie. As most of the other princesses are traditionally animated, they have to make a few changes to make the look consistent between them all.
What’s false? She likes one princess and you like others. This is not a test with only one right answer. Sheesh.False. Belle and Mulan are the best.

I have to disagree. The modifications they made between the original character and the new version are pretty drastic, to me at least. The new version looks too much like a Barbie doll. I think the new version is way more “sexier” than the other princesses. If my daughter was still that age, I think I’d be a little irked.Maybe it’s because I’m a guy, but it doesn’t seem like that drastic of a change to me.

All I dislike is, if she looks that way in the movie and was dressed a certain way then that’s the way she should remain. As a kid, I wanted toys that looked like the characters in a movie or TV show. If they looked different, why should I want them? I wanted my heroes and villains to look like they appeared. Is it bad that I already knew about this?
I haven’t seen Brave, but I really dislike this redesign. It looks bad, and I really dislike that they took her arrows away. She looks older and more sexualized than the original, and it all just rubs me the wrong way.
People have protested about princess redesigns in the past, too. They redesigned all of the princesses a while ago, and people protested that Mulan’s redesign was so much paler than she was in the movie (in fact, she was even paler than Snow White’s redesign). Eventually, Disney did back down and make Mulan more normal-colored.
Anyways, good eye, ed. I take it you dislike the redesign as well? (Although Mulan is the best princess, definitely.)
I. Will. NEVER. Look. At. Merida. The. Same. Way. AgainAll I picture when I see the new version is a certain character on the “Game of Thrones” and that really bugs me. Because I love “Games” but don’t necessarily want to think of that and when my daughter was younger and was in her full out Disney princess obsession.
