Hi,
I have seen this source quoted a couple of times. Who is James? Thank you,

The author of the Protoevangelium of James claims to be James, the step-brother of Jesus, the same James who wrote the Letter of James found in the New Testament, but most scholars think the work was written in the second century A.D. by an otherwise unknown author writing under the pseudonym of James, long after the real James had been martyred.

Isn’t James the son of Cleophas (Alphaeus) and the other Mary?
Mk 15:40 James as one of the “brothers” of Jesus
Mt 10:2-3 James son of Alphaeus
Acts 1:13 James son of Alphaeus

Or isn’t he the other James (son of Zebedee and Salome)
Mk 1:19 and Mk 3:17

Where can we find that James is the son of Joseph with another woman?

Please advice.

This was not uncommon in ancient Israel - the declared author not being the author. It seems it wasn’t frowned upon either.

In the Gospel of James, which (for that very reason) was banned reading material for Catholics for quite some time. The story where Joseph had children by an earlier marriage was more in line with Orthodox Christians, while Catholics generally went with the “cousins” hypothesis. As time went by, though, either view came to be accepted within the Church of Rome.

It was written around 150AD or maybe later so it wasn’t written by anyone alive at the time of Jesus.
