Prove Christ exists, judge orders priest
From Richard Owen in Rome

AN ITALIAN judge has ordered a priest to appear in court this month to prove that Jesus Christ existed.

The case against Father Enrico Righi has been brought in the town of Viterbo, north of Rome, by Luigi Cascioli, a retired agronomist who once studied for the priesthood but later became a militant atheist.

Signor Cascioli, author of a book called The Fable of Christ, began legal proceedings against Father Righi three years ago after the priest denounced Signor Cascioli in the parish newsletter for questioning Christ’s historical existence.

Why do I have a feeling that no matter what proof is provided, it will not be enough for this judge.

So fight it American-jurisprudence style (meaning you flood the court with stupid, meaningless, pointless, frivolous lawsuits). Tthe preist gets another attorney to lodge suit against the judge and the plaintiff, demanding that they prove that Christ didn’t exist.

Um, the judge didn’t bring the lawsuit.
“You must appear in court to answer this lawsuit” is not the same as “you must convince me, (the judge), that Christ exists.”

Edited (upon actually reading the article)…

The judge first rejected the lawsuit, then was ordered by an appeal court to hear it. So not only is the trial judge not saying “make me believe in Christ”…he’s only hearing the suit at all because he has been obliged to, by a superior court.

What is the charge against the priest anyway… defamation? If the priest denounces a militant atheist for apostacy in a parish newsletter I can’t see any other grounds that he would have.

There is historical proof of the existence of Jesus Christ in any case. There are non-Christian historians who refer to the public ministry and Passion of Jesus in their writings. All the priest has to do is ask the right people for help in finding the documents, and then show them as evidence in court. The judge may, or may not, accept them as evidence, but the “historical” Jesus exists regardless. The atheist will have a harder time prooving that He doesn’t exist than the priest will prooving that He does.

I’ll be praying for Father Enrico Righi. I hope he wins and puts the proud, agressive atheist to shame.

God bless,

Agricola

I like that way of thinking lol , prove he didnt. If im not mistaken there is historical proof that Christ did exist , they just don’t have proof that he was Risen from the dead.

Gee, if he would have just stayed in the priesthood, he’d have made Cardinal by now! and the neos would be explaining how his book can be really be seen in the foglight of tradition.

Simple. You act as though you have faith and faith will be given to you. Do it.
