So, without God and absolutes the morality murder has to be based on an individual’s personal emotions.😦
With God and with absolutes the morality of murder is still based on an individual’s personal emotions and beliefs. God and absolutes haven’t exactly kept believers from behaving badly and justifying it. We’re in the same boat.

The existence of absolutes and the adherence to them are two different things.

That’s like saying “why have laws, since people break them?”

Certainly so. And I can say ‘murder is absolutely wrong’ without bringing God into the picture, and the fact that people still murder doesn’t matter one bit.

I think this argument is no different than the argument for or against God.

You say ‘murder is absolutely wrong’ without bringing God into the picture. I say God planted that moral in your heart and you follow it because you are a loving person.

We both make out good;)

On some level, we all relate to the Transcendent, whether we are aware of it or not. Scientists are discovering this more and more as they become enlightened, so I guess that we have Religion built right into our being. If this is true I would say that it’s impossible not to use religion, but we’d still have free will. We also have the ability to rationalize that murder is a good. We can also be pressured into murder as these poor girls in today’s world. We as a society have looked down on pregnancy before marriage and thus safe sex came into play. Read up on Margaret Sanger and it should frighten anyone who still thinks family is important in their life. Sanger was a person who wanted to have her way and be considered respectable in doing so. She sided with Hitler and decided that we needed to get rid of those who were inferior. She decided that the black race was inferior, thus abortion centers under pretense were set up for these poor gals. These women are suffering from a culture of death and are starting to speak out – " Silent No More " Dr Frankl, who wrote the famous masterpiece: Will to Meaning, lived to tell about the horrors of Auschwitz. Dr Frankl mentioned that we relate to God Intuitively ( He compared this to a mother tuned in to her child at night and hearing the child’s cry ). Lastly, Mother Therese said that a society that could kill a child in the womb was one that could kill anyone. We have as a Society lost a sense of the Sacred. We need to Pray for Mercy.

Without religion, who shall ultimately decide what is right and what is wrong?

Man will inevitably come to realize that he himself would not like the idea that somebody would simply murder him at any time. Man is a social being. He desires the company of others.By the presence of that mutual desire, he could not resist the beauty of living in harmony with his fellowmen. To achieve this end he then would enter into a social contract with his fellowmen. They would make laws that shall govern their mutual relations. And by necessity they would have to agree that murder is wrong. Hence, murder is wrong!
