Matthew 10:16 - Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

There is a great resistance in the world today against anything related to God. Where do we draw the line in what we do to proclaim Him? For example, in this electronic age, we all belong to several forums/blogs/email sites. In those areas that are not religious based, like CAF is, do we perhaps not but religious signatures as to not offend others. Or is that timidity? Should we boldly proclaim God even at the risk of losing work or favor with others or do we be more subtle in our proclamation? Do we choose our words wisely in fear of misinterpretation (I can just see how an egotist would take “God became man so that man might become god” (Saint Athansius)).

I guess I asking about prudence and when being prudent and “wise as a serpent and innocent as a dove” crosses the threshold to being timid in the faith and denying Christ by our silence and compromise.

There’s no set answer; every situation is different, but it’s a good question. And not every situation is the same for every person.

Some people are by nature “timid” and not called to preach the Gospel with words, but with their actions. Some have the give of tact while being bold (they’re called “salespeople” :D). The trick is figuring out which each one of us is called to be and when to speak up and when to be quiet.

🙂

The worst thing I can imagine is for those I work with, play with, talk with not to realize that I am a follower of Christ. That said, the way you conduct yourself should say volumes more than any words ever could.

Never be afraid to answer boldly when asked about your faith. And never apologize for it. But it isn’t necessary to wear the most obvious T-shirt or have the biggest bumper sticker on your car either.

What was it St. Francis said? “Preach daily; and when necessary, use words.”
