[PSA] Reminder that the Holy Spirit exists

The Holy Spirit is co-eternal with the Father and Son, He is a person of the trinity, not an impersonal force, He is also God, He’s not “subservient” to the other members of the Godhead. He’s not a “lesser God” in the trinity, He loves you and desires your salvation. He’s not a utility either. Start spending more time thanking Him, praying to Him, asking Him how you can serve Him etc. like you do with the Father and Son (rather than just asking Him to boost your spiritual prowess), and start treating Him like God and respect Him as such. Simply saying “I feel the Holy Spirit moving strongly in me” isn’t going to cut it, if that was the entirety of your relationship with Jesus or the Father (i.e. a cliche quote that you invoke once a month), a Priest would tell you to re-evaluate your life and spiritual relationship with the Lord. Priests need to start pushing for improved relationships with Paraclete because Him “moving strongly” in you is not a relationship, that’s an action (that may not even be happening). Next time you feel the Holy Spirit doing something for you or He grants you the strength that you asked Jesus for (not Him lol) thank Him for that… And about that; Jesus isn’t granted you those prayers asking for strength, Paraclete is. Those prayers are simply getting corrected to be viable behind the scenes. So next time when asking for strength, actually pray to Paraclete and spend some time with Him–and ask what you can do for Him in return.

If anyone forgets that the Holy Spirit exists, whack 'em on the head and tell them to get their mind straight. 😉

Good reminder and post. A common modernist error seems to be what I call “hijacking the Holy Spirit,” which occurs when someone will propose a change in Church teaching to conform to secular culture (e.g. accepting homosexual unions, softening stance on sin, allowing women priests) and then claiming that “the Spirit” is moving us to do these things. Yet they seem to forget that the Trinity is one God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and it is erroneous to state that one person will act contrary to the others.

Interestingly enough, English Catholic bibles have had the “Prayer to the Holy Spirit before reading the Scriptures” either on the inside cover, or in the pages immediately preceding the Book of Genesis. I believe that it was in the first printing of the 1970 NAB, but removed from subsequent issues and omitted from the NAB/RE.

Why would anyone do that?
