Psalms 27:14 -- Hope vs. Wait

Psalms 27:14

In the Grail translation, which is used in Catholic Liturgy in English, this verse reads:

Hope in him, hold firm and take heart. Hope in the Lord!

But, in almost every other English translation I’ve seen it reads:

Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; yea, wait for the LORD! (RSV)

Why the drastic difference?
 
I don’t have an answer for you, but The Revised English Bible (REB) takes the middle ground on the two translations you mentioned:

"Wait for the Lord; be strong and brave, and put your hope in the Lord."

The NETS english translation of the Septuagint reads:

"Wait for the Lord; take courage, and let your heart be strong, and wait for the Lord."

The difference probably involves which textual manuscript (M.T. or LXX) the translators decide to use. Maybe someone else has a more precise answer.
