Firstly, just a brief description about myself. I joined the forum last year because I was struggling(I still am) about my boyfriend’s past relationship(relationship itself as well as sexual). I am seeing a counsellor at the moment which is great but i still struggle most of the time and feel hopeless.

Here are my previous threads…

Now my Aunt is not a Catholic or a Christian and she’s always had this obsession with psychics and their predictions about the future.
She must have asked the psychic about my relationship cos she called me today to tell me what she told her.
Apparently, my boyfriend is pretty good guy, not too bad but she says that I will have a chance to meet lots of guys this year and how I shouldn’t reject any of them and that I will meet someone even better than my current boyfriend. That I will get married after the age of 30 and that i’m very smart and love studying and pursuing my career.

First thing first, I usually do not believe anything psychic says and how it’s all ******** cos listening to my background and what’s happening in my life, anyone can guess that I will get married
after 30 because I simply have a lot of things I want to study before I settle down and I’m 25 at the moment. I would love to get married before then so if i do, that’s my choice.
I don’t know what my aunt has told the psychic about the relationship problem we are having but if the psychic is saying that I will meet someone better, it just sounds like she’s playing with my mind so that I will actually believe her to go find someone better which later on, she can prove herself correct.

BUT, if this time, if what she says is true and if there is really someone better out there for me hoping that it is actually someone I have been dreaming of (no past, no experience), would it make me happier?
I have been asking myself similar questions over and over again and with my counsellor; can i really find someone so perfect just the way I want? He might have some faults and negative sides but as long as we can communicate, negotiate and work things out together I’m happy but is there anyone like that with no past relationship?
In this case, should i believe what the psychic says which I know is definitely sinful but I’m so lost that I don’t know who to believe anymore…my mind’s a mess

Don’t listen to psychics; ninety-nine percent of them are charlatans. Nothing the psychic told your aunt is specific or unusual, as you yourself note. Even if it were, it is ordinarily based on what they have found out from others about your past. Besides, as you know, it is forbidden by the Church (and Judaism) to consult with psychics or believe in such superstition. It is infinitely better to trust in G-d and your own moral conscience, instincts, and intelligence to do the right things in your life.

A psychic told a friend of mine not to marry her current boyfriend. She went against this advice and married him anyhow. She has never been happier. And her marriage has withstood the test of time.

I would advise against planning your future around what a psychic has said. The scriptures have a good description of the words of mediums: they ‘chirp and mutter’ (Isaiah 8:19).
So don’t let her words disturb you.

If you feel you’re on a good path right now, keep going, and add more prayers for guidance.

Tell your aunt, with loving kindness, that while you appreciate her concern you don’t believe in psychics and ask her to not share your personal information with strangers.

Keep seeing your counselor. Try to find a good spiritual director or confessor.

Pray and give thanks to God for who you are and all that He has given you. Turn your troubles over to Him and take life a day at a time. You are young, don’t rush into anything and enjoy your life.

As much as is possible, go to the church services this weekend.

God bless you,
Tom

As I read your post I though this:

That’s it’s entirely possible that your aunt has been wishing you would remove yourself form the present relationship, knowing that you certainly will have an opportunity to meet someone without a “past” that is not so disturbing to you. And she loves you.
And she thinks that if she says this advice comes from “someone else”…ok a psychic was not a good choice
that you might actually heed this advice.
All the advice you have been given here is excellent. Focus on your studies, get counseling, and wait for the right guy to come along. 25 is still really young.
You’ll marry. To someone who is right if that’s what God wills for you.
God bless.

Do not live your life according to this garbage. However, I want to make sure I’m clear here that, if you do not believe your boyfriend is (or ever will be) the person you want to marry, breaking up with him for those reasons will not be listening to the psychic or heeding their advice - it is using your free will to make the best decision for yourself.

My sis-in-law went to psychic because she thought her house was haunted. She tried some of the “magic” that was supposed to help but it actually made things worse. No kidding, and I’m a big skeptic. She tries some native-Canadian ritual stuff (smudging) and nothing changed. However, for some reason, she decided to “try anything” and came to Mass. We prayed together, spoke to our priest and someone prayed a prayer at her home and, wouldn’t you know it, haven’t heard about “the man with no voices” from her little children since.

She came to believe that she had opened herself to a demon by allowing the occult practice of the psychic replace her Faith (and common sense.) It doesn’t take much to open the door to the devil.

A palm reader (high school graduation party) told me I would have four children and three grandchildren. I have 9 children. 😃

I think this psychic’s advice was so general it’s meaningless anyway. There’ll be someone better. She probably knew from your aunt something was problematic, so it’s not much of a stretch to say someone better will come along.

If you believe in that kind of stuff, then I have a problem with a psychic who takes a reading for someone who isn’t there.

No consent was given, and it’s not your aunt’s place to ask questions for you.

You have done well so far being chaste. I am sure you have had a lot of temptation thrown your way over the last year and bit and have resisted.

Consider what your aunt has told you, that she is the vessel to another level of temptation in which you must resist.

I wouldn’t put any faith in something the psychic said. Use your own judgment regarding your boyfriend. It sounds like you have doubts but possibly are thinking you might not find someone else if you let go of him. Of course, it’s always possible you may find someone better, but not because the psychic said so.

Any truth, that comes from psychics, comes from the devil. To start to believe in such is a serious mortal sin.
Crux sacra sit mihi lux
Non draco sit mihi dux
Vade retro satana
Numquam suade mihi vana
Sunt mala quae libas
Ipse venena bibas

Thanks everyone.

I really don’t know whether I should break up or not just because I fee like i will regret it later on and also not being able to find a guy I want.
As I mentioned, I’m in a total mess emotionally and I even usually feel pretty down and sad after seeing my counsellor too.

I’m still trying to find ways.

I’m hardly a professional, but in my brief experience with counseling during marriage problems, I found that I left three counselors feeling worse than before. They were the three who bought XH’s stories and dismissed what I knew was happening, or simply told me to try to pretend everything was okay. With the fourth, I left feeling better, and she actually helped me. I wonder if you should try a different counselor.

I know it’s always hard when you have had plans in mind…and then they become unattainable.

But be aware of this truth:
When you are confused and emotionally upset, you are where the devil wants you to be.
Who would follow the devil in any way were they not completely VULNERABLE?

You are young. Not a kid, not saying that. But you have many years to live.
Better to wait for someone else (of course you will find another, more suitable and more compatible mate) then to live this life miserable, at risk of losing your faith and your good perspective on things, and ultimately lose your soul.

Sounds dire, doesn’t it? It is. A bad marriage brings all kinds of sorrow. Think of future children. Being a single mom is no piece of cake.

Counselors are not there to agree with you. They are there to help you see ALL sides.
It’s not enough to “find a guy that I want”. They must want you, love you, respect you.

Value yourself more. Pray for your aunt, forget about the psychic, and get counseling from a priest. They give great advice, but do so with compassion as well as the hard truth.

Most of all, pray dear one.
Peace.

avoid all advice from this person at all costs. It’s really unsafe and is stated many times in the bible as a no-no.

Well, first thing, Happy Easter to you all!

Look, I pointed this out many times in other threads but I truly think that my boyfriend and I are a couple who’s great together and so does he. Aside from my problems with his past, we have always worked together through good and bad times and be there for each other. He doesn’t want to run away from our problems; he wants to face it and solve it together no matter how long it takes,
I guess this particular attitude shows why he stayed with me up to now despite my problem with him and his past over the last year and couple of months. He has been extremely patient and understanding of my position in spite of me attacking him constantly and be anxious all the time and telling him i want to kill myself (which in reply he said “please please don’t, i will feel so guilty for the rest of my life”)

That’s why it’s so hard to let him go and he knows that I’m trying too. Who would’ve thought I would end up in counselling because i got into a relationship?
I’m doing all I can to overcome this and find an answer but i honestly do feel like giving up and killing myself at times. I know it sounds so naive and trivial but it could be that I have a certain rule I cannot break and I get frustrated when it can’t be done in a certain way.
