I never believed in psychics or horoscopes, or any of that. However, I hear from other people that a lot of it is true. I just don’t get how this can be. I know it’s a sin to go to a psychic to hear about your future, however, I don’t even get how they can know, even a little bit about the future. Do they get it from God?? Wouldn’t God not want them to know that?? Give me your thoughts. Thanks!!

Psychics are not in touch with God. They are in touch with the devil. The devil can know some things about the future. I had a friend who, when he was a new believer, was tricked by a little deception of the enemy. It happened that when he drove by gas stations he would get some numbers in his head and a voice would encourage him to play them, and every time he did he won. He thought it must be from God. So he brought the money to the church building fund. But then the Lord spoke and he found out that was not God’s way to bless him. God is not into gambling.

But in general, the info you get from the 900 numbers is very vague and general and you can apply it in different ways so it alway seems like there is some truth in it. I would never touch it in any way because it is the opposite of faith in God and it makes a weak spot in your armour where the devil can get a hook in you.

Oh, wow. Thank you. But, what do you think about those that hear things from loved ones who passed away? I know a someone who went to one and she told her things that her loved one wanted to let them know. What do you think about that? How does someone who passes away get in touch with those people?

Psychics, astologers, palm readers, seers, mystics, and many more are all part of the occult.

As the poster above has mentioned, they are in line with Satan.
It is not a good idea to get involved with the paranormal.

If you want to know more about it, look at what the Church has said about it:

All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to ‘unveil’ the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone” (CCC 2116).

As to your question, How they get their abilities:
Some say they are born with it, they can not control their actions
Others actively seek it out power, even unknowingly, through the devil.

Ok, that makes sense. However, those who are born with it, is it still the devil who they are getting it from???

To answer your question, I first have to state that I don’t believe in psychic powers. How many people can claim to have psychic power? Everybody I know does not have it. I think it would be safe to say the majority of people in the world do not have psychic power. Of those who do, did they actively seek the power through the occult?

If, (very big if), a person were born with powers, I would assume God gave them the ability for a reason. This also means that they should not use the power in a way that does not go along with Church teaching. e.g: palm reading, talking to ghosts etc.
If I were born with a psychic ability I would not actively seek out knowledge that I was not supposed to have.

Ok, I don;t know if I would call it a power or whatever… but for instance, a girl i know from high school was talking to a psychic or maybe she was something else not sure, and she was telling her things that her brother who passed away two years ago , what he wanted them to know. she didn’t know everything, but she was giving her clues or what not. I knw other people who have been to people who read from turkish coffee cups, and can tell certain things of your life. Whether it be about the future, or just things that is already in your life. I just am curious to know how that works, since I know God would not want them to know.

Most of those people are charlatans. They say a lot of general things, or things they deduce from the person they are doing a “reading” for. For example, my son and I were at a Renaissance Faire once, and we were sitting and eating our lunch near where a “psychic” was doing readings for a family. We heard her tell every one of them, “You love animals.” Well, she would probably say that to me, too - I bet I don’t have a single article of clothing that doesn’t have cat hair on it! They pick up on clues that other people don’t notice, so it looks impressive.

Another danger is that people who believe in psychics go looking for what they say to come true. I worked with a woman who visited a psychic regularly and believed everything she said. The psychic told my co-worker she would be married within a year. (My co-worker, really, REALLY wanted to get married but none of her changing parade of boyfriends would work out.) Guess what - she started dating a new guy and married him after just a short time. They moved away and I have no idea whether it’s lasted - but I have my doubts. I had a bad feeling about the guy the first time I met him. 🤷

Yea, thats another good question. (sorry to have been away for a while) I remember now I had a friend, and this was a long time ago before i was saved, who was able to receive a lot of messages from “the other side”. He is a musician and he supposedly got things from dead composers such a Mozart and Chopin. They would give him piano lessons and Chopin would remenice about life in the Polish countryside and peasant life. One day he insisted that he would contact the spirit of my dead father. I know he had no reason to try to fool me like a midway phychic, but the information he was getting although true, was very vague, no personal information was revealed, so i wasn’t too impressed. But now i know that he was really only talking to his familiar spirit who would probably just appear with different disguises.

As you have read a lot of these people are charlatans BUT a few are genuine. They have contact with the evil spirits whose sole intention is to undermine our belief in God. We must trust in God for our future and must not be swayed by the" knowledge" revealed by these psychics / fortune tellers…they are extremely clever and manipulative using the feelgood factor e.g. they always say of someone who has “passed on” that they are in a “better place” but never divulging whether it’s Heaven or Hell…read about St. Paul’s encounter with a fortune-teller in Acts 16 :16…as a previous poster mentioned about horoscopes…this is also a minor form of the occult…be careful out there PLACE ALL YOUR TRUST FOR EVERYTHING IN GOD AND IN GOD ALONE

I have mild powers of precognisance (ie. I can see a little ways into the future), plus I can detect the presence of ghosts/spirits. But I’m not about to market my skills, except maybe to help out with house-hauntings and help the spirits “cross over” if they’re ready for it. Nor am I in league with the devil. I don’t know why or where I got these skills, but if they’re used to help the poor souls, how can that be a bad thing or from the devil?

Ok so there was like a month that i had these dreams that kept coming true i was wierd. So what was going on? Were these like comin from the devil or somethin?

Prophesy is a gift of the Holy Spirit. One who has it will be totally resigned to God’s will- and will direct people to prayer and resignation to God’s will. One who does otherwise makes prophesies that are hoaxes or messages from demons. Those messages from demons are not prophesies- just logical conclusions made by demons who are very, very intuitive, and are able to predict various scenarios based on people’s actions and the workings of the physical world. I would not risk opening a door to my soul, allowing demons to torment me, over what doesn’t really concern me- God’s in control. I know God will take care of me- that’s all that matters.

Avoid psychics. They get their information from “the dark side”! I know I sound like an unscientific nut when I say this, but I researched the point, and I am sure that it is true.

Psychics who sell their power are not real. If they don’t use their gifts to help others for the glory of God, they are charlatans. Either that, or their gifts are manifest from the devil himself.

However, I fully believe that those who believe that their gifts are from the Holy Spirit and use their gifts to help others are genuine. These gifts are called “charisms”. In the Bible, many prophets, as well as the Apostles and disciples perform many wonders with these charisms. Many saints have performed many miraculous wonders with their charisms.

These charisms include, but are not limited to: speaking in tongues, interpretation of tongues, casting out devils and demons, healing, discernment of spirits, prophecy, clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience (also called empathy), bi-location, etc.

Here are a couple of Biblical references to the fact that these charisms really do exist, and really are from God:

Mark 16: 15-18
15 And he said to them: Go ye into the whole world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall he condemned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name they shall cast out devils. They shall speak with new tongues. 18 They shall take up serpents: and if they shall drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them. They shall lay their hand upon the sick: and they shall recover.

I Corinthians Chapters 12-14

Here are a couple of links about the position of the Catholic Church on these charisms:
diolaf.org/charismatic/giftsandcharisms.htm (This one even references the Catechism)
ewtn.com/library/Montfort/Handbook/Charism.htm

There is a charismatic renewal going on right now in the Catholic Church. You know those healing Masses that the Church has? They are done because of the charism of miraculous healing. Just look up spiritual gifts or Christian charisms, or something like that, and you’ll get a whole lot of articles on the subject.

I’m an empath, meaning I feel the emotions and senses of others around me, as well as being able to sense the spirit world. I have discernment of spirits and a healing touch. These are gifts that are meant to help people, to know when someone needs healed, needs comforted, needs help, is hurting, needs prayers for someone who is deceased, etc.

My mom and sister are “psychic”. They are able to prophecy things before they happen.

Therefore, I would not say that ALL psychics are evil and of the devil. You just have to know which ones are truly from God, and which ones aren’t.

Not necessarily

Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass, in the last days, (saith the Lord,) I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.

very interesting but scares the living heck out of me. good luck and hope you only get messages from the right side. Take care.

it’s either fake or from the devil… in which case it’s a way to invite demons into yourself. Best not to go… God bless

the Bible tells us we shouldn’t ask the dead for information… this is different than asking the Saints for prayer, cause we ask them for intercession, not information, and even if they contact us, we don’t seek that. Also some people from purgatory contacted Saints on earth to ask for prayers, but that was because God willed it, not because the Saints asked for this.

A psychic (or anyone) can’t “contact” the dead at will. And we don’t know if the person who passed away is in Heaven, hell, or purgatory in this case.

I’d say that the spirits that are telling the psychic the information are actually demons, disguised as the person’s loved ones. The devil frequently takes on disguises in order to deceive.

God bless

it can be

also if someone says they were born with it, doesn’t mean they were, they could have received it at an early age but don’t remember when it started
