Call me naive, but how would one know one is psychic or has para-normal sensitivity? Honest question. Another way I want to ask this question is, if you do not know for sure then you don’t have it right?

Everyone is given gifts from God. You can also ask for gifts from God. If you don’t know for sure, then it’s not that you don’t have the gift, it’s that you might not have it. It also could be that you might not be strong enough in your gift or know how to use your gift.

I apologize in advance. There is something disconcerting about your response. Maybe it’s the wording of how he “wanted” the gift and “God obliged”. Also, I understand that we receive different gifts, but do you have any documentation that it is permissible to ask for something of this type?

Yes: The Bible.

In Luke 11, when talking about prayer, Jesus said, “9 And I say to you: Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and you shall find: knock, and it shall be opened to you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth: and he that seeketh findeth: and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”

Also, the Holy Spirit coming to the Apostles in the upper room on Pentecost, giving them the gift of tongues.

In 1 Corinthians 14:1, in speaking about charismatic gifts of the Spirit, St. Paul says, “Follow after charity, be zealous for spiritual gifts.”

I find this topic to be one of faith. I have had the experience to talk to a passing spirit and feel the amazing energy that surrounded this passing. It was when holding something that belonged to this person, having no idea that I would receive such a gift. I was asked to pick up this item and bring it to the funeral home so the friends could put it with her. When picking it up, I can only describe the energy surrounding me as “a knowledge of peace and love”. She was safe and in the presense of the holy spirit.

I went to my priest and asked him what I should do and then went and told this young ladies family of this experience. I don’t know why these things happen and personally don’t think any of the experiences I have ever witnessed had anything to do with the future or winnings of any sort.

Throughout my life I have experienced dreams, scary visions of ghost, demons, and then the comfort and protection of God. I have in dreams directed some of these “spirits” to acknowledge Jesus and seek protection and then watched as they left my sights as I prayed and reached for Jesus in these very real dreams. As a Realtor, I have gone into hundreds of homes without fear or the thought of something scary, but can also say that I have entered properties that are filled with something very evil. Although I can count them on one one hand.

I have been removed from situations “moments” before they happened because of an overwelming knowledge that I should leave, put on my seatbelt (moments before having an accident) that I was told by doctors would have been severe without it and picked up on voices and conversations that I have no idea about.

I have sensed both good and bad in people, feared and felt the love of others. Felt when someone is hiding something from me and tried to excuse the feeling, although that is simply not possible… This is sometimes a gift and sometimes not. I am more sure about some of these experiences than I am about any living or actual relationship that I have had. What are these experiences, not sure, but they are not of the devil and I am very Grateful that my priest agrees.

Finally, for those seeking advise on lottery numbers or something material, I don’t think that information comes from God, however, he does find ways to speak to us and give us the information we need.

I never believed in psychics or horoscopes, or any of that. However, I hear from other people that a lot of it is true. !!

do these people speak with the authority of Jesus Christ? They cannot be doing that unless their authority comes from the Catholic Church, and if it doesn’t they are lying, or else simply ignorant, so why are you even listening to them, about this, or about anything else? Anyone who suspects they have had a supernatural encounter–for good or for evil–immediately takes that experience to a trusted priest for discernment, as previous posters have noted. They do not run around telling people about it, much less seeking adulation, praise, or claiming authority on the basis of those experiences.

I have seen my fair share of strange stuff my self and I had no controll over any of it and the last time I was just sitting there and doing nothing.
I have felt a breeze go past me befor to and I always try to debunk it first befor accepting an answer.

No psychic has ever been proven to have genuine “powers.” It is much easier than it looks to fool people, or even fool yourself into believing you have these “powers.”

If it’s true, where is the evidence? There is none!

I would hope that you believe there is evidence of God’s existence, and specifically, evidence for the divinity of Jesus Christ.

If not, we’re all basically playing Russian Roulette with our souls, as we could just as well be Muslims, Zoroastrians, Buddhist, Hindus, Jews, etc. It’s like a crapshoot then. Either that or, the Holy Spirit picks the “elect” and the rest of us are damned for no apparent reason (that is not a Catholic belief).

That’s not to say the Russian Roulette option isn’t possible, just because something is bad doesn’t mean it isn’t true. I just personally don’t believe that because I do find there is evidence for Christ’s divinity. If we’re going to argue about that, we should probably have a different thread.
