Psychological "image" of God. Understanding God

Is it right to “imagine” God as a state of spirit, state of soul, particularly love (as much as we can understand love)? Because if God cannot be represented visually, then we must “approximate” and “picture” Him as a state of soul, a character, otherwise our mind will not be able to comprehend the conception of God at all, and also we will not be able to love that “nothing”. What do you think?
 
The Gospels point a direction toward God who dwells in mystery. That is why Jesus taught in parables. We can probabaly understand and know more with our hearts than with out minds.
 
I am not sure I understand You well. At psychological level, “understand with heart” means understand, “feel” a certain state of soul. No? In religion not everything is mysticism, there is a great deal of rational psychology.

It is true that God cannot be represented visually. In Christianity, this is made easier when God became flesh and dwell among us in Jesus Christ.

Jesus said to Philip, “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father (God).”

Jesus had said everything about God. It is easier to know God through Jesus and to know what he teaches.

Not much easier, @Reuben_J. Because to “know”, “understand” Jesus means to understand His soul, character (I mean at psychological level, not mystical), not His exterior appearance. So, the problem stays the same.

We can try with all the knowledge that is given to us. It can be done because along the history there were saints who knew God.

But I agree with you, it is difficult, … but not impossible.
