Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone knew of any Catholic audio books, old time radio shows or other great audio resources that are fully in the public domain (without copyright). Unfortunately Family Theater Productions and Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s content are not public domain.

I am looking to put together a small, home-run internet radio station with Catholic content and Freedom/Independent News content and am choosing to only air content that I can legally use through Creative Commons or through Public Domain sources. Not that I expect many listeners as this is just for fun.

I did search Archive.org but, their search functionality leaves something to be desired.

Does anyone know of any specific radio programs, dramas, audio books or other content that might be useful?

Thanks!

That’s tough. Since audio programs haven’t been around nearly as long as books, I’m not sure how much is in the public domain.

You might have a look at Sonitus Sanctus. It’s a Catholic blog that collects links to free Catholic audio. But of course “free” doesn’t necessarily mean “public domain”. It might open up some avenues for you to pursue, though.

I will check them out. It is a starting point.

Most of the audio on the site links to sources that, while being given away free of charge, are still under the license of their original rights holders.:sad_yes: I will bookmark the site as a personal resource though!👍

Some of Chesterton’s books are available as Audio books via project Gutenberg! That’s one win!

It was worth a shot. :o

Let us know when you get up and running. It’s a good idea.

It will be a while.

Right now, I am still hunting for enough content to fill roughly 24 hours. I have found an independent news network, LRN.FM to stream 12am-7am every day so, that takes care of a bunch right there.

I have also found a variety of Creative Commons news and Catholic podcasts to stream as well. But, still not enough for a full schedule.

I will say a prayer for your efforts. 👍
