**So I just saw this ad which was taken out in a local paper to all gay and lesbian members of this community.
As health care professionals in the XXXX community we wish to express our support for you during this election season. We recognize that the proposed amendment to the XX state constitution which would deny marriage equality to same gender couples is harmful to you and your families. We support equal human rights for all people regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation. The following medical and mental health associations have declared their opposition to the XX Marriage Amendment:

Several of the local health care providers are visible members of the local Catholic Church.

I know the people who placed their names on this list…why did they just not include thier names.

What is going on with people who profess to be active Catholics and do not support the Church in matter of faith and morals?

God help us.

You know, I just don’t know. I come across those type of people occasionally. And I ask myself, “Why does this person bother to go to church anyway?”

It sounds as if they are afraid to profess their faith and even not to upset the liberal public that they are Catholic.

Here ourladyswarriors.org/dissent/dissorg.htm is a list of dissenting organizations and what they are trying to accomplish. The question that has perplexed me is why they don’t just go join a church more in line with their beliefs rather than expend a lot of effort trying to change a 2,000 year-old organization. 🤷

Perhaps a crude analogy:

Faithfulness to the tenents of our Catholic Faith, and I guess for any faith, is much like GOLF.

We know some of the rules.
We like some of the rules we know.
We play according to the rules we like.
We do not play daily or weekly as we should.
Half of us cannot break 100 regularly.
Few of us take lessons, really wanting to get better.

To play golf well one has to concentrate and practice. Many just play for the social aspect. Perhaps attending Mass with our minds and hearts fully engaged does not matter, it becomes just something we do out of habit.

Perhaps we are attracted to the material advantages of THIS world and falsely think that if we are going OK here we must be on the path to Heaven.

Perhaps being well thought of by our friends is much more important than being well thought of by God who we really cannot hear speaking to us personally anyway. Perhaps we slowly just tuned Him out.

For many of us, perhaps God is just an idea and not A REAL PERSON. How many really accept the fact that we receive the REAL PRESENCE OF JESUS CHRIST IN HOLY COMMUNION?

If we really believe in the real presence of Christ in Holy Communion AND responded accordingly, we could drop our spiritual handicap by at least 10 strokes. And our names would not be on protest letters against the Catholic Faith. And we would not vote for those who support policies that are clearly immoral when measured by the tenets of of Faith.

In all our acts, it should always be: GOD FIRST !

The message is constantly being spread on almost media outlets that we are wrong, that our beliefs are not beneficial to anyone, except those that are part of the Church - maybe. I believe that too many Catholics have been convinced of the “wrongness” of Church teaching in this case because it is being spoon-fed to them constantly by the media. It strongly suggests to me that they have not even read why the Church teaches what it does and why.

It is up to us to speak the truth daily.

Peace,
Ed
