With all the quotes of Pullman floating around about how he is trying to kill God etc, one quote that I am surprised to see not widely circulated is this: ‘I am with Satan, certainly not with God,’

This quote, mentioned in this article, just reaffirms to me my suspicion that this man is more than just an atheist.
So far as I can find, he never actually said that. Here is the 2002 interview and a search box:

I think it is pretty important to get this right, isn’t it?

I am not saying that isn’t the article that the quote was gathered from, but I am certainly not saying that IS it either. It just strikes me as unlikely that the quote would be completely fictional.
It seems to be pretty fictional however. Sure, Pullman is an atheist, but if he’d said what the quote said he said, it would be all over the Internet for years. Either the reviewer didn’t check carefully, or he made it up, and neither one is forgivable in a review as important as this one.
It’s interesting that a fairly positive review by American Bishops was retracted, isn’t it?

Lots of people have to tried to “kill” God. People a lot more powerful than some dude who wrote a cheap knock off of the lord ofthe rings. but God is still here. My bet is God will be around long after pullman shuffles off this mortal coil.

Guys, did any of you read Catholic Digest? They have an article there reg. the Golden Compass. I wasn’t pleased at all with it. They didn’t say that you should avoid the film and the book. They recommended parents to talk with their children before reading or watching.
How wrong is that!
How wrong is that??? Is it wrong to talk to your children about something that you know they are probably going to come into contact with in some way in the near future?

What if your children went to public school, and you know that kids are doing drugs and having sex starting in 7th or 8th grade, sometimes earlier. Wouldn’t you want to “talk to your kids” about those issues?

I believe that if we are afraid that maybe God doesn’t exist, then we would shelter ourselves and our kids from everything that would make them question their faith. But, hopefully you are sure of your faith in God and are able to educate your kids well enough that a fantasy fiction family film won’t plant seeds that ruin that faith.
